Mum came to The Bowers after falls, plan was to build mums strength and enable her to return home, but promised daily exercises with staff did not happen.
I want to acknowledge that most staff were kind and caring, and Mum liked them.

Mum came to The Bowers after falls, plan was to build mums strength and enable her to return home, but promised daily exercises with staff did not happen.
I want to acknowledge that most staff were kind and caring, and Mum liked them.
Our main concerns were repeated poor treatment by one staff member, which made Mum afraid to ask for help and, shortly before her death, led to her threatening self-harm and asking to move homes. Oxygen management was inconsistent, including an occasion when she was almost sent to hospital without portable oxygen. Her pressure sore, oedema and dry skin were not consistently managed, despite district nurse instructions. She also had a fall when only one carer was present.

Mum had capacity, but this was questioned without sufficient evidence. Personal care was sometimes significantly delayed. We also found confidential records left in a hallway and were concerned that staff made assumptions about her deteriorating health rather than seeking medical advice.

Our family was left with serious concerns about my mum's care. We repeatedly raised concerns about the same staff member for around 12 months, yet the problems continued. Mum eventually became frightened and told us she did not feel safe with this person.

Our family was left with serious concerns about my mum's care. We repeatedly raised concerns about the same staff member for around 12 months, yet the problems continued. Mum eventually became frightened and told us she did not feel safe with this person.
Our concerns included repeated falls, moving and handling, oxygen, pain management, pressure care, nutrition, toileting and whether healthcare professionals' instructions were followed. Symptoms linked to Mum's serious health conditions were recorded as possible "intoxication". Mum had full capacity, yet a manager suggested she could be treated as lacking capacity because she refused personal care.
Sensitive handwritten care notes about Mum were left openly in a public throughway. I have photographic evidence of this.

The care is wonderful staff are lovely caring people my uncle lost his wife 2years ago they were married 65years his health got very bad he had a stroke then last year was in hospital for 2months he went to Bowers Wood House in June and has been well looked after. The care is wonderful staff are lovely caring people my uncle lost his wife 2years ago they were married 65years his health got very bad he had a stroke then last year was in hospital for 2months he went to Bowers Wood House in June and has been well looked after. His health has improved and he is a lot happier than I have seen him in the last 2years. They are wonderful staff and very caring nothing is too much trouble. The best thing for my uncle who is like my dad I can not praise them enough. The grounds are beautiful a is the house itself.
