My mum who suffers from dementia has been with Hillcroft since late last year, and all's I can say about the care home is how warm & welcoming they have been, not just to mum but all our family & friends who visit. It puts our minds at rest that mum is happy and being personally looked after by such
professional and caring staff. I can't thank them all enough
Reply from Peter McCarten, Manager at HillcroftThank you for your review Rob. We love to care for your mum as she deserves the best care possible. If there is anything else we can do for you, all you have to do is ask. I will pass on your comments to all the care staff!

Choosing a care home can be an extremely difficult and emotional decision, but from the moment we walked through the door and spoke with Peter and his wonderful staff, we knew this was the right place for our mum. The home is lovely and bright, with such a warm and welcoming feel. The kindness, compassion,
and genuine care shown by everyone immediately put our minds at ease. Knowing our mum is treated with dignity and respect means more to us than words can say. We are truly grateful to Peter and the entire team for everything they do.
Reply from Peter McCarten, Manager at HillcroftThank you for your review Gary. We are extremely grateful for your very kind words and this will be passed on to the team. We genuinely love to look after your mum and ensure that she gets the care she absolutely deserves. She is a wonderful lady!

A massive thank you to Hillcroft Care Home for the care my mum received following a recent fall. Hillcroft have always supported my mum who is prone to falling and has had numerous breaks in various parts of her body. Her last fall left her with a broken pelvis which ultimately led to delirium and we
were convinced she wouldn't live to see her 99th birthday next month. The carers however kept telling us she would live through this episode. With their care she pulled through and we were able to take our two weeks old great granddaughter to see her. The love the carers showed her was humbling to see and it was evident they cared for my mum as they would care for their own parents. My son said they were miracle workers!
Reply from Peter McCarten, Manager at HillcroftWe are so happy that you feel that we have supported both your family and your mum in this process. We pride ourselves in looking after our residents the best we can and by making their stay as comfortable and meaningful as possible. Your mum has brought us so much pleasure since she moved to Hillcroft and I know all the staff think dearly of her. We sincerely hope we get to celebrate her 100th Birthday next year!

Dad recently went into hospital after a fall. There he completely shut down closing his eyes and being so unresponsive that the staff could do very little to help him and his advanced dementia..Hillcroft wanted him home with them and immediately he opened his eyes, smiled, and began eating again. That
,to our family said it all and we are so grateful.
Reply from Peter McCarten, Manager at HillcroftThank you Sue for your kind words about the care we have provided for your dad. It is testimony to the home and our lovely staff that your Dad immediately began to smile again when he arrived back with us. That is lovely to hear.

Since my sister was admitted to Hillcroft she has been cared for so wonderfully well. We have been so impressed by the levels of care provided to her and she is very happy there. The environment inside is fabulous, very inviting and homely. My sister loves the staff already and she has made lots of
friends so far with other residents living there. There is a bar open on a Friday afternoon so she can enjoy a beverage if she wishes and the activities in the home are fantastic. We were so worried about moving her into care but Hillcroft have demonstrated to us that we didn't have to. Overall very impressed and we couldn't have asked for more.
Reply from Peter McCarten, Manager at HillcroftThank you for your kind words. We are very privileged to be able to look after your sister and we are so happy that she has settled in so well to her new home. We will continue to support her needs. If there is anything else we can do please just ask.

I find that there is a lack of basic care and dignity and because of this, I have taken on the responsibility of doing all my mum's laundry as I was constantly finding her in other people's clothes even though all her clothes are clearly labelled. Because I do this it allows me to monitor how often
she is changed and to my dismay have found that she has had only one change of underwear in almost a week, this did result in an investigation with staff. The general cleanliness is poor, under her bed is filthy and there is almost no entertainment, very little in the way of activities.
Reply from Peter McCarten, Manager at HillcroftMany thanks for your review. We are really sorry you feel that your mum has not received the care she deserves. We have looked into these concerns and have spoken to all staff concerned who advise that this is often due to a refusal to change into new clothes which they document onto our digital system. We would be happy to evidence this to you at a meeting at your convenience. We feel the general cleanliness of the home is good and we have invested heavily in new equipment such as carpet cleaners and new products. We do also have a resident of the day feature in which each bedroom receives a monthly deep clean in addition to daily cleaning. We have also invested heavily in the entertainment we provide our residents with entertainers visiting the home weekly. We would suggest that a Friday afternoon visit take place as this is when we open our Bar and have entertainment in the building. We have also invested heavily in an activity platform which holds 3,000 activity ideas.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.768)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.768) out of 10 for Hillcroft is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.768 for Hillcroft is calculated as follows: ( (226 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 263 Ratings = 4.768
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hillcroft is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 35 registered maximum number of service users is 7, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
