Hillcroft is a very happy home that makes my mum and our family very welcome. My mum settled very quickly because of the exceptional staff. All staff are kind, caring and have taken the time to get to know my mum and her ways. I enjoy visiting my mum and know when I leave she is in safe hands. Since
my mum has been a resident at Hillcroft, I have felt less anxious, knowing she is with staff who genuinely care. Thank you.
Reply from Peter McCarten, Manager at HillcroftMany thanks for your review. It is great to know that you value our staff so much and have had a positive experience so far. We will continue to look after your mum in the best way we can so she continues to have a quality of life living at Hillcroft.

My friend was here for a period of respite care. The staff are wonderful, nothing is too much trouble, the management goes above and beyond to ensure everyone is cared for.
It honestly feels like a home from home, not clinical like some others in the area. My friend came on leaps and bounds whilst
here due to the exceptional care given.
Reply from Peter McCarten, Manager at HillcroftMany thanks for your honest review. We are really pleased that your friend improved greatly whilst they lived here and we were really sad to see them leave as we know they enjoyed the experience of living in the home so much.

Mum spent 7 months at Hillcroft and during her time there she was always treated with the utmost respect and kindness from the wonderful staff there. One of our family would visit Mum every day and she was always clean and well dressed. Any issues we had were dealt with promptly and the manager was
friendly and approachable. During her stay at Hillcroft, we knew Mum was safe and valued as a member of the Hillcroft family. I would have no hesitation in recommending Hillcroft. Heartfelt thanks to the manager and his staff, they do a difficult job with grace and good humour.
Reply from Peter McCarten, Manager at HillcroftIt was an absolute pleasure to be able to look after your mum at Hillcroft and we are all missing her! We are glad that your family feel that our staff treated her with respect and kindness and I will pass on your comments to them. Thank you again for choosing Hillcroft as your mum's preferred place of care earlier this year. We hope that the family are well!

The staff are pleasant and caring, communication with residents could be improved. My relative is always dressed well. On entering the home the smell of urine is strong. I get different/wrong answers when asking various staff about my relative. The food looks okay but it certainly isn’t personalised
to each resident.
My relative is not being given what they like to eat.
Reply from Peter McCarten, Manager at HillcroftThank you for your recent feedback. We pride ourselves on our first impressions at Hillcroft and have not received any negative feedback to date regarding mal-odour in the home. We will of course ensure that we further enhance this area of the foyer for everyone who enters the building.

Meal choices are provided to residents daily however if your relative has a special meal they like we will be more than happy to prepare this for them. We can also add this to our resident-of-the-day experience!

We have now also progressed to a new electronic system in the home. This should make it easier for staff to provide information to visitors when they arrive so you should see improvements in this area immediately.

If you have any concerns when visiting please do come and see me personally and I will only be too happy to help you.

My mum has settled well at Hillcroft. The staff are all very caring and kind. They're attentive and professional and always make me feel welcome. My mum's bedroom is cosy and warm and always cleaned to a very high standard with clean, fresh bedding and a clean bathroom. Often music is played at mealtimes,
which I think the residents really enjoy. I do sometimes feel the staff are over-stretched and could do with an extra carer to help out. This is particularly visible at weekends. More activities would be nice to see.
Reply from Peter McCarten, Manager at HillcroftMany thanks for your review. We are glad to know that your mum has settled in well at the home. It is also good to know that you feel our staff are caring, attentive and professional. We acknowledge your comments about activities and will look into bringing in more activities and entertainment for the residents at the home so they have a more meaningful and enjoyable day.

My mum has been a resident of this home for 2 years. The staff are amazing. Any issues are resolved quickly. Although during her time there have been four different managers, the staff remain consistent in the care of the residents. The staff seem happy in their work and have positive attitudes towards
the residents encouraging them to be as independent as possible. It has recently been refurbished and this is ongoing. The chefs will cater to a request for a different meal if asked. They have activities and celebrate birthdays and occasions such as st Patrick’s day, Halloween and Valentine’s Day and of course Christmas. The residents love it when they have a group singing or animals visiting. There is a hairdresser available at weekends. Just because someone goes into a care home doesn’t mean their life is over.

Ever since she's been there myself and the rest of the family are happy and relaxed knowing she is in great hands and getting looked after properly. All through Covid and beyond the staff have been brilliant especially with their activities keeping
the residents entertained and our monthly emails and social media posts to keep the families updated.

I will be ever grateful to the management and staff for the quality of care my Mum received during her 23 months at Hillcroft. She was always treated with respect and dignity by the cheerful, positive and professional staff. They gave her the best possible care. Mum was happy and made new friends. They
encouraged Mum to be as independent as possible but always gave her attention and support when needed. Mum enjoyed the outings, activities and entertainments. She found the home-cooked meals appetising and enjoyable. The home remained COVID free because of very effective decision making by the manager and rigorous routines followed by all. Staff were always very welcoming and communication with family, when needed was first class.

The activities were varied and enjoyable. A real effort to improve the daily experiences of relatives
was evident. The staff wanted residents to enjoy themselves. Hillcroft is well run and full of kind motivated staff.

My husband has been resident at Hillcroft since April 2019. From the moment of our arrival, the staff were there to help and support us in every way. My husband's care has continued to be exemplary. I visit him several times per week and I am always welcomed warmly into the 'family'. The staff are so
kind and will always make time for me even when they are busy. My husband was quite ill when he arrived but staff went out of their way to help him to settle and he continues to be settled and content. There are regular and frequent activities, outings and entertainment sessions which my husband thoroughly enjoys and which family members are always invited to participate in. The food is freshly cooked and nutritious. Support and encouragement is always there to ensure he eats and takes his medication. His personal care needs are met with kindness, compassion and dignity. I am so grateful to all the staff at Hillcroft for their care of my husband and would unreservedly recommend this care home.
Reply from Margaret Sutcliffe, Manager at HillcroftThank you for your heartfelt review, it has been an absolute pleasure working with both yourself and your husband. My sister was on a weeks respite. They were supposed to go on outings and trips, she went on one trip out for tea. She complained about the food either burnt and said even staff complained. They also lost a lot of her clothes, l made three separate trips back after numerous calls saying they would be
there, still waiting. l found it a very expensive week to have her saying she was bored, will not be recommending or using them again, disappointed sister.
Reply from Margaret Sutcliffe, Manager at HillcroftHi Ros, firstly I would like to thank you for your comments regarding your sister's stay with us. We are disappointed with some of your comments however the overall rating we welcome as part of our continued commitment to providing the best possible care to all of our residents. We take all reviews seriously to improve the service we provide. Throughout your sister's one week stay she did enjoy the meals out x two and the entertainers that came into the home to which she was dancing and singing along to. The feedback from your sister throughout her stay and on leaving was positive and she was looking forward to returning to stay with the friends she had made.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.768)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.768) out of 10 for Hillcroft is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.768 for Hillcroft is calculated as follows: ( (226 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 263 Ratings = 4.768
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hillcroft is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 35 registered maximum number of service users is 7, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
