Swillbrook House is in a tranquil part of Preston and this was just what my mum needed after recovery from a fall. The staff really take their time with the residents and treat them like their own family. Communication is a strength and I'm always kept informed of any incidents, appointments and changes to medication, etc. There is a weekly line up of activities including Sunday morning worship which my mum has enjoyed.

My Mother has settled well in the short time she has been at Swillbrook. She was recovering from sepsis and was quite poorly and had been bedbound for 6 weeks. Within 2 weeks Mum was eating better, was dressed in the lounge and communicated much better. In fact, Mum's recovery was quite remarkable, thanks to the management and staff's support. Mum has resided in 4 other care homes to date and Swillbrook far surpasses all of them. Mum is well cared for on all levels and the care home is always welcoming and has a great vibe. The residents are treated with dignity and respect. I couldn't want for a better place for Mum and wouldn't hesitate recommending them!

Mum initially came into Swillbrook House for short-term respite care whilst my dad was in the hospital. Sadly, Dad died, and Swillbrook House has now become Mum's permanent home. She has obviously been very distressed and unsettled, but the staff, without exception, have been kind and caring. They go out of their way to care for Mum, spending lots of time with her, checking she is ok and has everything she needs, and listening to her when she wants to talk. We have been very happy with all aspects of her care. The house is homely, the food is good and plentiful, Mum is clean and well dressed, she can have drinks and snacks whenever she wants them, and visiting is on an open-door basis which is lovely. The gardens are also really nice, well-maintained, with lots of bird feeders, all of which Mum really enjoys.

My parents were both scheduled to take up residence at Swillbrook House, Dad due to respiratory problems and Mum due to Alzheimer's. Unfortunately, Dad was admitted to the hospital, where he subsequently passed away, leaving Mum to go into the care home alone. The transition from living as a couple in their own home to being alone in a care home has been a traumatic one for Mum, but the staff at Swillbrook have been amazing. They can't do enough to help her, as well as us, and have made Mum feel so welcome. The food is excellent too. All are highly recommended.

My husband has been in respite care since May 31st and has settled down very well after being discharged from the hospital. The staff are very caring, and residents are treated with dignity. The food smells delicious every time I visit, and the cleanliness of the rooms is evident. He has come on with his mobility since arrival and is always clean and dressed when we go. All the staff have bent over backwards to accommodate us all as a family unit in these difficult circumstances.

From the minute I met the manager, she made me feel very welcome and listened to my concerns and what needs I needed to be met. She has kept me updated with everything concerning my relative. She has shown care and compassion throughout, and in her absence, the two carers, in particular, have also been very accommodating. Even the cleaner has made us feel very welcome and always sits and has a chat with us. Overall, I am very satisfied with everything so far.

The staff took my medication off me and told me I would be given it at the correct times each day, but I soon realised the following day that if I didn't ask a staff member when I was due my medication, I wouldn't receive it at all, and this carried on for the whole two months of my stay. After being there for two weeks, I was asked to move to another bedroom, the room I moved into didn't have any curtains up in it and although again I asked nearly every other day about whether I was going to receive any curtains, I was told they had ordered them. I had to put towels up at my windows for five weeks because I wasn't given any curtains.

The food was inadequate and too small portions, and also was given powdered soup each night for our evening meal, which tasted like cardboard. The cleanliness of the building and the kitchen area was not very good at all and at one point I had to ask the management to clean the microwave it was that dirty.

I have been working in the Health & Social Care sector for over 15 years; I started my journey in domiciliary care. During this time, I worked my way up and did my NVQ Level 2 in care. I had a passion to work in the care sector. Following this, I enjoyed my role. I continued to progress my future career in the care sector, working in both the nursing care homes and residential and briefly in mental health. I was a senior carer for many years, and I showed outstanding practices and diligence in my senior role. I was allowed to become a care home manager, which I gave 100% to. I have also studied hard and have completed my NVQ Level 5. My desire is to ensure that the people who use services are given the highest standard of care in a way that makes them feel inclusive. It is important to me that the staff I work with feel supported, empowered, and happy in their role. I will reflect, open and non-judgemental so I can learn and adapt how we all work together in the longer term. I vigorously seek new opportunities to enable me to develop within the social care profession whilst gaining as much practical experience as possible.
