The Willows is a 26 bedroom care home with hotel standards, based on the fringe of rural Blackpool, St Annes, and Lytham that looks after elderly residents throughout their retirement and any health issues they may have.

All resident rooms are accessed at ground level, with own TV and access door leading to a secluded private garden.

The home's aim is to improve the lifestyle of its' residents, offering as much personal choice and opportunities for entertainment and physical activities as possible, whilst keeping all occupants safe, healthy and secure, with permanent access to skilled carers.

The Willows has also been recognised by the NHS Gold Standards Framework for end-of-life care as a 'Beacon' Home, the highest possible award available – and one of only two such care homes in Blackpool to achieve 'Beacon Status'.

In 2014, The Willows became the first home nationally to become the most recommended care home in the UK. Later the same year, the care home was a finalist in the National Care Home Awards held in London.

The Willows is often featured on BBC Radio Lancashire and has contributed to Granada Reports, ITN News and Good Morning Britain.

The owner has been selected as a judge at this Years National Care Awards in London.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My Dad has Alzheimer’s and lived on his own with his pet Border Collie called Tex. As his condition worsened we knew he would need 24/7 care but also knew he would be devastated if he was separated from his beloved Tex. Fortunately for my Dad and Tex we found the The Willows Care Home (Registered with
the Cinnamon Trust). The managers went to exceptional lengths to accommodate my Dad and Tex – Even Tex has his own care plan! My Dad and Tex enjoy the extensive gardens at the home and they are often taken for a walk in the surrounding quiet lanes where my Dad can also enjoy the horses in the nearby fields.
All the staff I have met I have found to be very kind, friendly and show empathy to my Dad’s needs. I was very worried how my Dad would react to the major change of moving into a care home. However, the staff have managed the change exceptionally well and Dad has, with their help, settled well. The home is cosy, very clean, welcoming and the rooms have access to the gardens, which are extensive and well kept. My Dad has a Key Worker and I have found access/communication with the home excellent – you are kept up to date with useful feedback and discussion. Overall I could not be happier.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.593) out of 10 for The Willows Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.818 for The Willows Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (109 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 132 Ratings = 4.818
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Willows Care Home is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 11 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
