My mother has been transferred since going to Abbeydale. I can't speak more highly of the care team. Mum has her life back and is so happy. Thank you Abbeydale.

It was always a pleasure to visit Abbeydale, the staff were so considerate and attentive.
My dear friend moved into Abbeydale in August 2022 with his beloved wife who sadly passed away a few months later. The staff were marvellous and helped him through this difficult time.
Food was very important to my friend and he would discuss the menu with me on video call and leave me feeling quite jealous of his options. Again nothing was too much trouble even when kippers were requested!
His health recently declined and the owners and staff again pulled out all the stops to support him and the family while traversing this period.

He sadly died on 18th May 2026.

My father spent his final months at this wonderful care home, and I cannot speak highly enough of every aspect of his care. Dad could be a little challenging at times and the patience of the staff with him was superb.
The care team were outstanding. Warm, attentive and genuinely compassionate, they treated my father with dignity and real kindness. We always felt he was in safe, loving hands, and that meant the world to our family.
The food was first class - freshly prepared, varied and clearly made with care. My father always looked forward to mealtimes, which says everything as he could sometimes be a little fussy!
At what is a difficult time for any family, the staff made the journey so much easier. We left every visit reassured and grateful. My father received the very best in his final chapter of life, and for that we will always be deeply thankful.

Thank you Catherine, Bob and all the staff for your kindness and professionalism.

It is with sadness that my father passed away on the 28th April 2026, after spending 15 months at this wonderful care home. My father was not the easiest of residents to look after, however the staff at Abbeydale treated him with kindness and compassion attending to his every need. Abbeydale is immaculate, it's always a pleasure to visit, the staff from the owners to the carers are just lovely. A special mention must be made of the beautiful award winning gardens, the are stunning. Oh and the cakes they make are delicious!

Reply from Emma Smeaton, Administrator at Abbeydale

Thankyou for the review Nick. I will pass your feedback onto the team and the owners who I am sure will be very pleased that you appreciated the care given your father (and I agree with you about the cakes - we are extremely lucky to have such wonderful chefs).

The care and attention Abbeydale and all the staff provide is excellent. Such kindness and attention to individual needs, and dignity. Abbeydale spare no expense when investing into the care and comfort of the residents. The food, decor, activities rival any 5* hotel.

It's truly a wonderful home from home where nothing is too much trouble. Mum has lived here for 3 years and it's been exceptional throughout.

The staff are without exception amazing. Their courtesy, patience, kindness, knowledge, experience and levels of care are exemplary. The overall environment is maintained to a 5 star standard, the food quality and presentation being awarded the same in my view. I live many miles away from dad as do my siblings but we are all comforted knowing that he is comfortable, happy, well fed and watered and being cared for by a remarkable team of people. Thank you the families, and my appreciation is beyond words. Paul.

Abbeydale consistently provides high levels of care and support. Staff regularly go beyond what might be expected to provide a stimulating environment but personalised care. Staff are quick to respond to requests or concerns. Inside our residents room is always spotless as are the communal areas and grounds. I always feel welcomed by all the staff.

Nothing but praise for this home. My mother has moved from another home which was more a nursing home and has completely changed in personality. More independent, engaged, lively and about ten years younger. Thank you.

I am the trustee for a resident at Abbeydale. She has very specific dietary needs to ensure the medication she takes for 4 separate chronic conditions is not cancelled by various foods. Ergo, she requires an individual diet. Plus gluten free, plus potassium problems. The chef and the home take exemplary care to comply with what is required. In addition, the residents' care needs are met in every way. It is a pleasure to visit, to see the care taken by staff and the way the home is managed. I cannot recommend this home highly enough; the care given is exemplary.

Abbeydale is special.
It offers an exceptional standard of care, the service of a first class hotel together with delicious food and staff whose commitment goes well beyond the call of duty. Also an attractive environment clean, fresh, often with sounds of laughter and beautiful gardens.
Thought has been given to the details of everything Abbeyfield staff do. With clear roles problems are addressed promptly by a team working together. Respectful listening, friendliness to residents, visitors and other staff, provides help to all of us to face the reality of our lives.
Last year I was unexpectedly unable to continue living independently. I moved into a care home but despite glossy adverts the simple requirements of the care I needed were not available. After two months I moved to Abbeydale. A life enhancing move.
Here not only have I survived but I've thrived.

I am profoundly grateful for all Abbeydale and its outstanding staff offer.

I am so grateful to all of the Abbeydale staff for making my mother's 90th birthday celebrations memorable. They always provide superb care throughout the year where any request is met with a smile and nothing is too much trouble. However, they push the boat out for residents' special birthdays and celebration days like Christmas. Mum was absolutely thrilled to receive huge helium birthday balloons, a delicious birthday cake complete with table fireworks, and pretty cards and presents from the owners. Our large extended family was made very welcome at a private drinks celebration set up in the spacious garden room surrounded by beautiful gardens. It was a truly wonderful day and I was very touched by the kindness of everyone at Abbeydale. It truly is a home that cares.

I have physical needs. I have dietary needs. I have early stage dementia. I have lived here five years. I feel all my needs are met. I feel management and staff go above and beyond to support us. We have activities, in house, bus trips to a very interesting variety of venues, all part of the package. Occasionally there may be a trip to a theatre, cinema, or a longer bus trip where one leaves before lunch, where one pays for lunch or tickets but not for transport. I cannot imagine how the service could be improved.

During my working years I was a guest speaker at many companies annual conferences, always staying at five-star hotels, accompanied by my wife and in worldwide locations. However, when my wife and I could no longer take care of ourselves, because of age and infirmity, I did not expect to be able to find a residential care establishment which would not only match our experience of earlier years but, in the case of Abbeydale, exceed in every aspect the level of service we had experienced in the best hotels in the world. In addition, of course, Abbeydale provide a range of personal services, essential to the elderly, that no hotel could even contemplate offering. My wife and I counted ourselves fortunate to have found such a special home in Abbeydale.

My mum is a resident at Abbeydale and I cannot speak highly enough of all the staff and the family who run it. My mum had a fall recently and was in hospital. Several of the staff waited with her in A&E and visited her in hospital after her accident. They all showed such kindness, support and compassion, and I can't thank them enough. Abbeydale is a special place, and I'm so glad we found it.

My mother has been in Abbeydale for five years now and has been very happy here and always tells us how lucky she is to be staying in such a beautiful home with caring and attentive staff. They have adapted to her needs as her mobility has gradually reduced, and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. It is a friendly environment. The food is amazing and always spotlessly clean. We always enjoy visiting the home to see my mum but also to speak with the staff and owners.
