Springbank Care Home is a small, family-run residence in the town of Silsden, offering a more intimate setting for up to 40 residents. Reopened by Steven Spellman after a careful refurbishment, the home has a quiet, personal feel that avoids the atmosphere of a larger care home. The team at Springbank aims to treat every resident as an extension of their own family, ensuring that the care provided is as much about companionship as it is about support.

Life at the home is defined by a sense of community and the beautiful views over the Aire Valley. Residents can spend time in the secure gardens or join in with social activities at their own pace. While the home is steeped in local history, the care provided is supported by modern systems that allow staff to stay updated on each resident’s specific needs. This blend of traditional family values and contemporary practice ensures a safe, respectful environment for everyone.

The Spellman Care ethos of "home-from-home" care is central to daily life. The group prioritises creating environments where residents can live life to the fullest, supported by a team that shares a common set of values. By combining long-standing experience with innovative care technology, Spellman Care ensures that every resident receives a service tailored specifically to their personality and preferences.

My partner has been a resident at Springbank Care Home for the last 12 months. She has been extremely well looked after by all levels of staff and management. My partner has unfortunately got vascular dementia. The staff understand her needs, are very caring and do everything possible to encourage her
to think positively. She is encouraged to take part in the daily activities the 2 dedicated members of staff have thoughtfully arranged.
Meals are provided at regular times with a tea/coffee break being given mid-morning and afternoon.
My partner likes the food that is offered by an extremely good chef. Residents are asked every day to select their breakfast, lunch and a choice from a menu they are helped to choose from.
Yes, I would certainly recommend Springbank not only to those relatives who now find their loved one cannot care for themselves at home but also to those poor family members with dementia or Alzheimer’s.

Dad was a resident in Springbank, for just over 2 years. From the first moment (during a lockdown) they met Dad, I knew that the care was individual and sensitive to his needs.
Very good, tailored personal care, promoting independence with unobtrusive supervision. Regular reviews give families and
residents time to reflect on care. Urgent issues are handled well, communication is excellent between staff and family.
The activities are wonderful and varied, and from my experience, the best I've seen in the area.
Full assessment on arrival gave staff a good picture of his life and interests. The visiting entertainment is fantastic and varied!
I noticed how sensitive they were to Dad and me, staff always cared with respect and dignity. I always felt welcomed and valued. All staff who came into his room were cheerful and engaged in conversation.
The building is immaculately clean and the food is outstanding. Excellent management that invests in progressive staff training and recruitment.
Well done!

Whilst mum only had a very short stay at Springbank, she was well cared for by the whole team, and when I say the whole team, I mean the whole team. They also made our family feel cared for and willingly gave their time to us too.
Mum chose to stay at the home, having visited friends here in times
past, and I could understand why, as the facilities for residents and families are outstanding. As a family, we appreciated the kitchen facilities we could use 24 hours a day and the resident's lounge that we could use for that little bit of quiet space, which we very much needed.
The care team was incredibly responsive to Mum's needs and worked tirelessly to keep her safe and as comfortable as possible. At times it felt as if Mum was the only resident there and was receiving one-on-one care, but this care extended across the entire home and to all residents. For this, the Springbank team should be very proud of themselves and for what they achieve on a daily basis. Thank you for everything you do.

My mother has been a resident at Springbank in Silsden since August 2022 and has been treated extremely well. Her age is 96 and has dementia. Care at home was becoming unsafe and this care home is wonderful. The level of care, attention especially in respect of personality and character and comfort
is excellent. The staff are kind and empathetic and always available to speak to. Springbank is a blessing to me and my family, to know that mum is safe and happy is priceless.

A really impressive care home.
High-quality carpets, curtains, furniture, food and staff.
Nothing to complain about, if there was, believe me, my mother would have done - dementia or not!
Full marks to all involved.

It's unfair to say this review only applies to December. My friend has been a resident since April 2022, although she had spent time here earlier.
She has dementia and lives in her own world most of the time, but I am so happy with the care she receives. I don't visit very often as she now doesn't
know who I am, but I'm not judged. I know she is safe, warm, well fed and cared for.
The staff are all great, and I mean all staff, not just carers; everyone does a remarkable job. Thank you.

Springbank has provided my mum with exceptional care. Since she moved into the home last November, they couldn't have done more to make her feel at home. I know she feels safe, well-fed, comfortable, warm, and above all, happy. They have made her part of the team and encouraged her to join in, which
has resulted in her being more like herself than she has in years. As a nurse, who managed three nursing homes, I think she feels part of the team. The care she's been given and the way the home is run have allowed Mum to have a purpose and feel valued. I know she feels at home because when we are out, she will say it's time to go back to Springbank at the end of our trip. Well done to everyone that works at Springbank, and thank you.

My mum has been in Springbank for over a year, and she's very happy.
We looked at three others, and we are very happy with the care she gets.
They now have a minibus to take them out for trips which my mum has been on two so far.

My stepmother-in-law has been at Springbank since just before Christmas 2021, in fact, a week before the latest lockdown, which made things much more difficult with no visits etc. All the staff, and especially the management team, have been very supportive at this difficult time. We have been updated
regularly on Covid changes, and everyone has been very helpful with phone calls and emails. Nothing is too much trouble, and everyone is very friendly. We are very pleased we chose Springbank; it was highly recommended to us, and so far, is living up to its reputation. I am very much looking forward to the high tea!

Dad has Lewy Bodies Dementia, and I approached Springbank after he was admitted to hospital after things reached something of a crisis at home and he couldn’t be cared for at home anymore. I looked at several options in the local area before we made a selection. Finding a care home is such a difficult
thing to do for your loved one, but from the first contact onwards, Dad and our family have been treated with nothing but kindness, professionalism and care by the Springbank team.
Special mention goes to the lady, who showed us around the facilities initially, then supported us with Dad’s move to Springbank, and who communicates clearly and carefully about his daily needs and care. Things like ensuring he has a limited range of carers looking after him, so he can form a trusting bond with them, have really helped Dad to settle in.
There is so much that is hard about coping with a dementia diagnosis in the family - finding Springbank for Dad is something I feel truly grateful for.

I feel incredibly lucky that we found Springbank for Mum. It is an exceptional care home where each resident is treated with dignity and respect and receives individual care according to their needs. Mum was able to take part in a variety of activities, and her interests and skills were always respected.
Now that Mum has advanced dementia she is receiving care in one of the specialist wings at Springbank. The management of Springbank is excellent; families receive regular communications and individual messages about family members. Throughout the Covid crisis, Springbank has treated families with empathy and adapted to ensure that we could make visits, eg by building a meeting pod in the grounds and facilitating window visits. Carers are always friendly and informative when we call about Mum, and we always feel that our contact is important to them.
The environment of Springbank is excellent. We really appreciate the decor and ambience of the Victorian building.
Excellent.

Placing our much-loved father, who suffers from dementia, into care last year was such a traumatic decision for our family to take.
The search for a care home we would be happy with was not an easy task. The moment we met the manager and her team at Springbank however we knew we had found the right
place for Dad as we felt confident he would have the love and support he needed.
The home itself is very clean and beautifully decorated. We were keen that the place we chose felt as much like "home from home" as possible and we felt the Springbank Care Home gave us that. When you enter the building it is very much like walking into a hotel.
All staff present themselves in such a very friendly and caring way giving us much confidence that Dad is being really well cared for. Nothing has been too much trouble for any of them. Dad often talks to us as if he is in his own home and repeatedly will say how lovely it is. We thank all the staff for all they do.

Both my grandparents moved to Springbank in September 2019 after my grandad suffered a heart attack and my nan couldn’t care for him. Their stay was only meant to last the length of Grandad’s recovery but the service was so excellent every time I asked if they wanted to go home they would say “just
one more week”.
It was a pleasure seeing them gain their social life back with all of the events planned around the home and I could really enjoy spending quality time with them instead of carrying out carer duties.
My grandad sadly passed away in January 2020 but they kindly allowed me to live with my nan the week of my grandad passing, so speaking from personal experience how well every aspect of the home is run. I have seen how quick staff are to react to emergencies and how much heart they have for all of their residents.
When the pandemic hit Springbank adapted phenomenally and I have still been able to visit my nan regularly and see she is continually being well looked after.

My mum was sadly only in Springbank for 6-weeks, but I could not have wished for a better place for her to stay. The care home itself is like a hotel and spotlessly clean.
The staff are amazing, so caring and friendly. I would like to say a special thank you to two particular staff members, who were
so lovely with my mum and myself, and I felt went above and beyond.
I would definitely recommend Springbank.

My mother spent the last 21-months of her life as a resident. She died in September 2020. She moved there when life became impossible at home. From day one, the staff, without exception, did their very best to make her as welcome and as comfortable as possible -including the laundry lady. What stands
out is the willingness to allow residents to make decisions about their daily routine. There is no regimentation and residents are treated with great respect and as individual people. Every effort was made to provide entertainment where appropriate.
When medical issues arose appropriate action was taken.
We had regular relatives meetings together with residents and management, where we were encouraged to make suggestions for any improvements.
The building itself is beautiful, spacious and kept spotlessly clean.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.711)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.711) out of 10 for Springbank Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.861 for Springbank Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (144 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 166 Ratings = 4.861
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Springbank Care Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I really enjoy supporting the design of our menus, based upon our residents’ preferences and take pride in the Home’s daily home baking, which always goes down a treat! I have a particular interest in texture-modified diets to ensure foods remain both nutritious and appealing.
