Springbank Care Home is a small, family-run residence in the town of Silsden, offering a more intimate setting for up to 40 residents. Reopened by Steven Spellman after a careful refurbishment, the home has a quiet, personal feel that avoids the atmosphere of a larger care home. The team at Springbank aims to treat every resident as an extension of their own family, ensuring that the care provided is as much about companionship as it is about support.

Life at the home is defined by a sense of community and the beautiful views over the Aire Valley. Residents can spend time in the secure gardens or join in with social activities at their own pace. While the home is steeped in local history, the care provided is supported by modern systems that allow staff to stay updated on each resident’s specific needs. This blend of traditional family values and contemporary practice ensures a safe, respectful environment for everyone.

The Spellman Care ethos of "home-from-home" care is central to daily life. The group prioritises creating environments where residents can live life to the fullest, supported by a team that shares a common set of values. By combining long-standing experience with innovative care technology, Spellman Care ensures that every resident receives a service tailored specifically to their personality and preferences.

Our mum has been living at Spring Bank since August 2018 and has been really well looked after by professional and caring staff.
The atmosphere in the home is very welcoming and it is also exceptionally clean and well-decorated. The communal rooms are bright and nicely furnished and the residents'
rooms homely and comfortable. In good weather, there is a beautiful garden to enjoy. Our mum is very happy at Spring Bank and our minds are at rest that she’s in great hands. During this COVID pandemic, the home has been almost COVID-free, but the very few cases have been isolated and everyone is now fine and the home is COVID-free again. The manager and all the staff have worked extremely hard to ensure we could keep in touch with our mum by various means and it’s made things that bit easier for her and for us. Well done to everyone at a Spring Bank and thanks.

. Ethos of home excellent, person-centred care.
. Holistic activities organised to meet individual variety of needs e.g. visiting a local church for singing lessons has resulted in my sister humming again, it's amazing.
. Staff have very good knowledge of how to relate to a person who is 63 with
early-onset.

I would like to thank all at Springbank for the love, care and attention they showed to my mother during the year she was a resident, from her first day, her transfer to the dementia wing and finally to the difficult last days of life.
The Home itself is excellent, with lovely, clean individual rooms,
good, healthy food prepared by an in house chef and an excellent and varied timetable of activities for the residents.
But the most important people are the staff, and the love and care they show to all residents were evident at all times.

All Mum's family are very pleased with the care she is receiving. Her individual needs were addressed quickly helping her to settle. The surroundings, facilities and cleanliness are outstanding along with imaginative activities, friendly caring staff and good food. The extra mile the carers and kitchen
staff go to makes a big difference. Mum's health and wellbeing have improved, she no longer feels lonely and vulnerable but cared for and safe. I would highly recommend Spring Bank.

Delighted with the care Mum is receiving at Spring Bank. From the outset, they have gone out of their way to ensure Mum's every need is met.
Lovely room, wonderful environment with all staff approachable and friendly.
Mum has improved so much. Settling in quickly and making friends.
Activities are
varied, friendly and inclusive. Lots of really good ideas and always something for Mum to take part in.
I will continue to happily recommend to family and friends.

My mum was moved to Spring Bank as our chosen home on end of life care. We could not have picked a better home.

The care home itself it like a hotel. No nasty smells, cosy and to hotel standard.

The staff are wonderful and shared many jokes with my mum during her short stay here. She loved the

food and company, we wouldn't have wanted her to be anywhere else.

I cannot thank the staff enough for my mum's last days.

As I work in the sector, Spring Bank care home even exceeded my expectations.

When Mum reacted badly to her 1st night here, the Deputy Manager told us crossly mum's needs couldn't be met. A GP explained to her the need for settling in time.

We thought mum was in a secure dementia unit but one-night unobserved, mum left her room, walked along a corridor and upstairs and somehow

hurt herself. A pressure mat was supposed to monitor her being safe in bed and although we'd brought up with the manager that this wasn't working or not always set by staff, she didn't address this for weeks and just made excuses.

Although the manager told us mum was welcome to stay permanently, 2 weeks later she told us her room was needed and further respite was unavailable. The manager later said this was because we "had concerns" and the home couldn't meet mum's needs. We'd had no communication about this.

The poor communication and lack of caring made it a very unhappy experience overall. This home isn't prepared to care for those who may have extra needs as dementia sufferers often do, especially as the illness progresses.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.711)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.711) out of 10 for Springbank Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.861 for Springbank Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (144 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 166 Ratings = 4.861
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Springbank Care Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
