My aunty has been in the home for four years and every visit is a pleasant one. The staff are very accommodating and the surroundings are always comfortable. My aunty is active and suffers from dementia, but she freely roams in a safe, secure environment. The meals are made fresh and eaten in a lovely
dining area. Overall, as a family, we are very happy with her situation.

My uncle recently had to leave Norton House Care Home as they were unable to meet his needs. A new setting was found as quickly as possible, but there is a process to go through. The staff cared for my uncle to the best possible standards, even though it was difficult for them. His transition to his
new home was well organised and they ensured his safety at all times, for which I am extremely grateful.

Staff are very friendly and helpful and the house is well kept, clean and tidy. The refurbishments are nice. Could do with a couple more residents activities outside of Christmas.
Reply from Jillie-Jo Carver, Registered Manager at Norton HouseThank you for your review and your kind words about the service!

The team do work exceptionally hard at employing a focus around person centred activities. Christmas was a challenging period, as we spent a protracted amount of time organising larger festive events, including the Santa's Grotto for the local community.

We do endeavour to provide a large variety of activities, all of which are chosen by the people we care for. Next time you pop in, feel free to ask a staff member for our activities folder. This way you can see what your loved one has been up to!

Norton House has been decorated recently to a high standard. There is a great display of art on the walls. The staff are excellent. Very helpful and kind to the residents and visitors. We are always offered a hot drink when visiting. They organise lots to do and try to get everyone to participate. Mum
is really looked after here.
Reply from Oliver Beaumont, Owner at Norton HouseThank you, we do try our best to do a range of activities that suit all of the people we care for. It is an absolute pleasure to look after Mum.

We needed a place for Mum at short notice and these guys pulled out all the stops and got her a place - Thank you!
She was well looked after, well fed and all her personal needs tended to.
The staff regularly checked in on her and made sure she was ok, they kept her company. Their attention to detail
and routine checks proved invaluable.
We were regularly updated on her condition and we were listened to/helped with Mum's 'individual' needs. I've nothing but good stuff to report about Norton House, you have my thanks.
Reply from Jillie-Jo Carver, Registered Manager at Norton HouseThank you so much for your kind words.

My mum moved into Norton House just a couple of weeks ago. The staff are all lovely, attending to Mum's every need. It is good to see their smiles regularly as they attend to Mum and also when passing by her room just waving at the door.

Always a warm, friendly welcome. All staff are always happy to help with anything. Always kind and reassuring to all residents with a sense of humour. Constantly offering activities and providing opportunities for all residents, family, and friends to join in, e.g. Halloween/Christmas.
My friend is
very happy here, and it is always a pleasure to visit.
Good food, lots of tea/coffee on offer.

I have always looked forward to seeing my nana, but I also look forward to seeing the lovely, attentive staff and characterful individuals who live at Norton House. There's always something going on, and I often feel inclined to partake! The activities keep residents physically and mentally stimulated;
they cover many different interests at many different skill levels to ensure everyone is included. The decor is warm and cosy; it feels like home. Tea and biscuits are plenty, the key to mine and my nanas heats. I often feel inclined to steal my nana's food; it looks so delectable. In my nana's words, "I like it very much, and they're very kind". Bonus point for Piano. Big fan. Thank you! Everyone who works here has a genuine love, patience and kindness towards residents.
Reply from Jillie-Jo Carver, Registered Manager at Norton HouseHi Charlotte, thank you for your lovely review! We are very grateful for your kind words; we truly do have an amazing staff team that are passionate about their roles and the individual's we look after.
We enjoy your company and love that you participate in the activities too! I absolutely love hearing you play the piano - I always know when you are here.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My Mum, who was frail and suffered from dementia, spent the last few months of her life here, and we were so grateful that she did. The staff could not have been nicer, making her so welcome and making sure that all of her needs, both physical and mental, were catered for. She had a very bad experience
at the care home where the Local Authority had initially placed her, so we felt a bit battle-scarred and were very cautious in selecting somewhere else. Mum had been in and out of hospital due to her various ailments, and the contrast between how she was cared for at Norton House, as compared to the total lack of compassion exhibited in the hospital could not have been more stark. We were very clear that Mum was dying, we wanted her to stay at Norton House rather than go to hospital, and we are so glad that we did.
I cannot praise the team at Norton House highly enough and I would not hesitate to recommend them.
Reply from Jillie-Jo Carver, Registered Manager at Norton HouseGood Afternoon Helen. Thank you so much for your kind words!

Went to visit my mother in law and was shocked to find just how happy she was. She was very well presented, clean and tidy and she spoke highly of the home herself. She appears to be very happy and settled at Norton House and we as a family are truly grateful to all the staff for making mum feel this
way. The staff are very friendly and visitors are well looked after when they visit. Staff have a kind and caring approach and are very responsive when needed. Meals appear nice and activities are very person centred, tailored to mums likes and dislikes. I would highly recommend Norton House to family and friends.

Our mother is well looked after. Staff are polite, patient and professional.
The home is undergoing a refurbishment which is aesthetically pleasing.
The food could do with improving, a lot of repetition.
Clothes also often seem to go missing and it would appear not a lot of care is taken with separating
the clothes before washing.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.878)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.878) out of 10 for Norton House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.878 for Norton House is calculated as follows: ( (231 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 262 Ratings = 4.878
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Norton House is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
