Anchor’s Tolson Grange, in Huddersfield, is a purpose-built home supporting up to 42 older people to live a comfortable lifestyle, as well as specialising in dementia care. It is located in a quiet area of Dalton.

The home continues to welcome new residents and strives to deliver a range of residential care services, including convalescence care; respite care and long-term care for those who can no longer look after themselves.

Tolson Grange has Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF) accreditation.

The care team get to know customers and work with them to organise stimulating activities which match individual and group interests, both in the care home as well as in the local community.

Each customer’s individual needs are regularly assessed to ensure their care plans meet their lifestyle requirements. Meals are cooked fresh and from locally sourced and seasonal ingredients where possible by highly trained chefs and kitchen staff.

Our wife/mum moved into Tolson last June. It was a traumatic time for mum, dad and us all as a family but I can honestly say that everyone at Tolson was so understanding and helpful. You have all been amazing and I have never known such caring and compassion in one place. Mum is mostly settled now and
we can sleep easy knowing that that she is in the best home ever. You hear so many horror stories about some care homes that it does become such a worry finding the right one. Well we have certainly found it, you are all lovely and we as a family couldn’t be more grateful for what you do. Tolson is always spotlessly clean and bright. There are lots of activities and entertainment and the weekly visit from the nursery children seems to be loved by all. Mum loves the garden in summer and I believe it’s having a makeover this year which will be great, just need the weather now. Mum has made friends both with residents and staff and we have too. Thank you Tolson.

My mother who is in her 90’s and suffers from dementia, moved into Tolson Grange just before Christmas 2023. She was made welcome from the moment she arrived and settled into her new life at Tolson very quickly. This was due to the warm, caring and loving attitude of the staff. She has been encouraged
to join in the many activities and events and especially enjoys anything to do with music, singing and dancing. I too have been made very welcome when visiting Mum and have found the management and staff extremely helpful. My impression is that the staff work well as individuals and together as a team in a very demanding environment. It was a difficult decision moving mum from her own home to residential care and we have no regrets about choosing Tolson Grange.

My mother has been at Tolson Grange for just over a year and my husband and I have been well satisfied with the standard of care that she has received. Tolson Grange is smart and clean, but just as importantly the staff demonstrated warmth and friendliness. Over the last 14 months, our initial impressions
have been proven to be correct as we have been favourably impressed with the consistency of care and consideration shown to my mother, by everyone at Tolson Grange.
The Management and Staff are always ready to discuss any concerns that we may have, to agree any actions required and to ensure that these are implemented without delay.
There is a real sense of community with the management and staff working as a team with the residents to create a family atmosphere. Residents can take part in a wide range of activities that are provided every day in the communal rooms and they also really enjoy the visits made by singers and entertainers who visit the care home.

Most carers are exceptionally kind and skilled and Mum is in good hands and her needs are generally well met. This is the most important thing and they are great. They’re also usually kind to us as family. We struggle to remember all their names - they don’t wear name badges and the photo board in reception
is out of date. We are welcome to visit any time except mealtimes which is understandable but makes it difficult to visit during a work lunch break or on the way home from work/after school as each meal is 90 minutes.
We sometimes feel we are an inconvenience to management and admin staff when we need information or have information to give, or need to be let in or out. There isn’t an efficient way of communicating with team leaders unless we speak to them if they are free when we are there.
Facilities are adequate but not luxurious, which is fine for us but some repairs take a long time.
General cleanliness is good but we sometimes need to clean Mum’s toilet and bathroom ourselves.

We have had issues obtaining name badges but will ensure colleagues wear these where possible. We have updated our Meet the Team board. During mealtimes, visitors are welcome in other areas of our home, however, we have protected mealtimes to ensure our residents are able to eat with minimal distractions and obtain their required nourishment. I will ask our housekeeping team to increase their checks on your mum's toilet and bathroom. I am happy to discuss all aspects of care with you at a mutually convenient time.

Mum had been in Tolson Grange Care home for two and a half years until she passed away peacefully in her sleep on the 5th March 2024. The care that Mum received in the home was second to none, she was extremely happy she loved the staff and they loved and looked after her really well. The staff are
a great team and work together doing their utmost best to provide care and support to all the residents. The entertainers and activities that they provide are brilliant my Mum loved dancing and looked forward to the monthly singers. Mum loved children and the weekly visits from the nursery were the highlight of the week for her.
Thank you to the management and staff for the love and care that she received during her time at Tolson Grange I would highly recommend this care home to anyone.

They do care here starting with their attitude. Most of the staff have been here a long time and it shows. They always have a warm smile which creates a feeling of safety and security. And they are very creative. For example, my wife is 80 and has dementia. The staff was great in helping us to organise
a birthday party for her and on February 14th Valentine’s lunch for me and my wife. Everyone at Tolson understands what their purpose is and there is a strong sense of inspiring leadership ‘from the top’. They match their caring with professionalism and do it to a very high standard as a result of great teamwork between carers. They communicate with residents and relatives continuously which creates a great atmosphere of belonging. After a year, my wife describes herself as liking it and feeling safe and happy. I would recommend Tolson Grange to you unreservedly. Every pound it costs is a smart investment (we are self-funding).

My Mum went into Tolson Grange 6 months ago. What a beautiful clean home this is. Mum has everything she needs and is looked after 24 hours a day. All the staff are caring friendly and accommodating. Mum loves the food which is very varied. There are lots of activities and excellent entertainment. I
couldn't be happier knowing she is in a safe friendly home, it's a pleasure to go visit her. Thank you to all the staff.

I find it odd that staff do not have name badges. My parents-in-law have been at Tolson for nearly 12 months and in all this time staff have not consistently had badges. Whilst name badges are useful for visitors they are essential for residents, especially those with dementia. Please can you get badges
sorted ASAP? You can buy simple black badges online and write names in white marker. Very simple.

We unfortunately have had an ongoing supplier issue across our homes, which we've continued to chase up. New badges have again been ordered and we're expecting them soon. The ongoing issue has also been discussed in many relative meetings.

A lady that I looked after privately in her own home, unfortunately had to go into full-time care. Whilst in the care home her private PA’s were still employed to visit her daily to help her with the transition from home to full-time care.
I can not say enough how welcoming Tolson Grange is, the dining
room where all the residents congregate is a home-from-home experience. The girls will always greet you with a smile and offer you a drink or food, just on a visit. One of the girls in particular goes the extra mile, I can’t name her. Small with blonde hair she is amazing with the residents and the visitors. Tolson Grange with the time I have spent there, is definitely a home that I will recommend to potential family and friends for a warm safe environment for their loved ones. I have to say that I do miss my visits, hopefully see you again soon.

I always find the staff polite/helpful if I have any questions they are answered. If there are any problems or they require something for Mum they will contact me. Mum is looked after and safe, if I need reassurance Mum is okay, I can always ring and staff will give me an update, that gives me and my
partner reassurance that we know she is in the right place.

My father has been at the home for two years and the care my father receives is fantastic. I cannot thank the carers enough, when the carers come and chat with him you can see his eyes light up and he genuinely smiles, this is reassuring to family members that he is happy there.
It is noticeable the
improvements that have been made over the last 12 months with carpets and furnishings and upkeep of the building.
The management and staff are a credit to the home.

Excellent support for my mother; felt that the staff really cared about her and other residents.
My brother and I were also well supported during my mum's final days.
Communication between us and the care home was always good and timely.

My sister is now bedridden with no verbal communication but she is cared for equally as well as when she was mobile, vocal and sometimes aggressive, when she arrived at Tolson Grange some years ago. She is clean and well nourished. Her room is basic but her vision is such that she wouldn't know any
different. The staff have always been friendly, helpful and accommodating, even through covid lockdowns.

I find my mum is well cared for. If there ever are any concerns, I raise them immediately and so far, everything has always been resolved to satisfaction. My mum has been at the care home since March and the staff genuinely appear to care for the residents.

My Mum is very well cared for at Tolson Grange. It is a safe place for her. The staff are kind and always treat her with dignity. They are also welcoming to visitors. Mum always looks well dressed and healthy when I see her, and she regularly has her hair and nails done at the home. Her little suite
of rooms is lovely, giving her the option of privacy and a quiet space if she wants to have a rest. I am so pleased there are so many interesting activities available at the home, and I was delighted that my mum is joining in and making friends. We love looking at the photos of her on Facebook! Thank you to everyone at Tolson Grange for making a huge difference to the quality of my mum's life.

I cannot thank all the staff enough at Tolson Grange for the love and care they gave mum. This includes care staff, cleaners, laundry, chef, maintenance, administration and managers. As a team, they work together fantastically. I think their interview process must be unless you are a happy caring person
who treats residents and family members with kindness and respect, don’t apply! Mum was so happy in her new home. Both me and my brother were so worried about her settling in but all the staff made this process so easy. Mum really enjoyed her time at Tolson Grange. Mum's move there made it so me and my brother could return to enjoying visits with Mum rather than the anxiety of sorting care arrangements. We cannot recommend Tolson Grange and the staff highly enough. A huge thank you from us to you.
