Excellent care and compassion, since the day my sister-in-law arrived, the staff have been friendly and encouraged her to come out of her shell. She is a different person from the nervous, quiet individual that arrived - she is confident and happy, thanks to the staff here. Thank you all.

The staff are loved and really care. They cannot do enough for us. The manager chats with us daily and really seems to want the best for us The deputy manager is great. I love it here and couldn't ask for anywhere better. I have made some good friends.

York House is brilliant. My mum has received the utmost care since she came in October 2019. Whenever I have visited prior to lockdown, the staff have all been friendly towards Mum's family. She could not have come to a better home. It is a real home from home.

My husband has been a resident for some time. When he moved in was very nervous. Everyone has been so kind. The manager and all the staff are really helpful and kept us informed. We got a keyring the other day with a picture of him, which was kind. I would really recommend that people look at York House.

Mum is bedbound and relies totally on the staff for all her care needs.
The staff appear to look after her well, and are very kind and treat her with dignity. Mum is unable to convey her thoughts to us, but I think is often aware of what people are saying, and the carers ofter talk and sing with her,
which I feel is very important. Music was always very important to Mum, and it would be nice for Mum to be incorporated into her day.

The manager and staff are really nice and friendly. The home is always clean and tidy. Understaffed at weekends which is not acceptable. Residents are distressed at times, as families should have peace of mind.

Overall the care home is good. However, the activities are few and not very stimulating and rather childish.
The food seems satisfactory but allowance for residents who have difficulty chewing must improve. Some dishes can be overcooked or boring.
The staff overall are attentive, caring and friendly.
However, the daily rate of £100 per day seems excessive, particularly for the menu provided.

Mum was at York House, Dewsbury for 3 years.
Care for her during that time varied massively upon the management skills and staff at the time.
In August 2018 Mum was diagnosed with an aneurysm, spotted by staff.
In October 2018 the aneurysm started weeping.
Mum remained in her own bed at York House
and cared for with dignity and compassion, as were we the relatives until Mum passed away.
We will be eternally grateful to the staff and now the management for the care received at the end of Mum's life.

My mum has been well cared for, whatever we ask for it hasn't been a problem. Her needs are well catered for.
Staff are approachable and friendly. My only complaint is patients are given the option to stay in bed and not encouraged to have some normality. I.e. Wash, dress and sit in the lounge. Activities
to stimulate are lacking also but I understand from new management, issues are to be addressed.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.416)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.416) out of 10 for York House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.744 for York House is calculated as follows: ( (63 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 82 Ratings = 4.744
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.672 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for York House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.2 = 0.972
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
