Overall Experience

My mum had an unfortunately brief stay at Larchfield. She had been living at home with mild dementia but then had a bad fall which left her a bit wobbly and more confused so she was unsafe to be on her own. We were very nervous about her going into a home and she was horrified when she saw the sign saying "Care Home". However, from the second the manager welcomed her into the property, she felt wanted, valued, calm and safe. I cannot fault any of the staff at Larchfield, every one of them were caring, considerate and capable. Mum went from never wanting to go in "one of those places" to being the most content and happy we had seen her in a long time. Unfortunately, due to complications from the fall before she went to Larchfield, she had to be readmitted to hospital and now into a nursing environment. The ambience of the house and gardens is wonderful if you want something more traditional than clinical and modern. I stayed for lunch with mum on one occasion and the food was delicious.

The standard of care, which is the most important factor, is exceptional. There was not a single member of staff we had dealings with who did not show outstanding levels of compassion and care in the way that they carried out their roles.

My mother was in Larchfield Manor for 2 months for respite care. Her ground floor room was extremely pleasant - always warm, lovely outlook onto the gardens, en-suite facilities, fresh and pleasant decor. Staff were always respectful, friendly and professional. Dining room - always set with tablecloths and flowers. Lovely grounds - very well kept. Decor in the main areas a little tired and could do with updating in the future but overall a very positive stay.

My grandmother-in-law finally decided it was time she went into full-time care as her anxiety was becoming too much for her and she no longer wanted to live at home on her own.

It was a very difficult decision for her to make and one that couldn't be rushed. From the moment I emailed the response and general attitude of the staff has been beyond our expectations. I emailed bank holiday Monday and got a phone call the next day, we were invited to come and have a look around on Wednesday and she was allowed to move in following a home assessment on Friday. The staff have been amazing treating her with respect and dignity but also a sense of humour which is hugely important in this kind of role. As a family, they have made us all feel very welcome and the visitors who have been to see her have been very impressed with the care and the building which are both very welcoming. The rooms are lovely and cosy and the communal facilities are very homely. Overall, very impressed.

Since Mum moved to Larchfield we no longer have to worry about her care. We know that she is safe and well cared for. The staff really do care about the residents and are always ready to have a chat with the family. Mum can be stubborn and quite difficult, but the staff are patient and understanding. She couldn't be better cared for. Thankyou to all the staff.

My aunt could not cope at home due to anxiety. She spent 6 weeks at Larchfield Manor following which she is now confident to return to her home and lifestyle. Regular meals and medication plus rest and relaxation has made a huge difference to her demeanour.

Mum went to live at the Coach House/Dementia unit 3 years 8 months ago. She felt welcomed and safe. She had her privacy and yet was encouraged to join in the numerous activities. Nothing was too much trouble.

We cannot praise the management and staff enough. As her dementia progressed she received more attention, help, love and care. Above all the care, which was wonderful, it was the love which shines through the staff at Larchfield.

At the end of Mum's life, she needed nursing care which is not really the facility offered, but with their big heart, knowing the end was near, they nursed her with end of life care to help and she passed away after 4 days. At ALL times if we were not there we were kept abreast of her situation as it changed. When she did pass, the staff who were on duty all came to say goodbye to her. I think that says it all. If you are looking for a place where your loved one will have great care and you will have peace of mind, look no further.

The home is in an old large house and it retains the feel more of a small old fashioned hotel.

All the staff are friendly, helpful and professional and my mother has been very happy there for the last 4 years.

Larchfield Manor is in a league of its own for every possible reason. The management of the home at every level is superb. All the staff from top to bottom are or at least appear to be trained to a very high standard. However, they retain a very warm, compassionate and calming approach to their guests. From my experience, all the staff know all the residents and both understand and accept their needs and their personalities.

The home has the feel of an Edwardian mansion that the ladies in particular love. Instead of the residents sat around in a big circle as is often the case in many homes, there are many reception and leisure areas where ever-changing groups can sit and relax, read, watch TV, knit etc. There is a daily programme of activities and entertainment. Others prefer to wander around the extensive gardens, have a chat or seek their privacy away from their first classrooms. There is always something happening. Larchfield Manor is a home from home, full of fun and laughter.

Professional, caring, efficient, Larchfield staff made the last 12 months of my mother's life as happy and as comfortable as possible and made me confident and reassured that she was as well cared for as I could possibly wish. All staff know her by name ad chatted happily with her. During her final few weeks, the palliative care, equipment, humanity and love shown to my mother were outstanding. They showed similar care towards me when I visited and kept me fully informed at all times of her welfare.

When our 84-year-old father's dementia meant that my mum was no longer able to cope with him on her own in their home, we looked at several care homes in the Harrogate area. Larchfield stood out from the others, the staff are encouraged to ensure that the residents are made to feel and be treated as if they would be in their own homes. Nothing seems to be too much trouble and there is a genuine kindness in the staff's attitude towards the residents. The location is very pleasant and it has the nice feeling of a private home about it. Dad has always been treated with dignity, and nothing seems too much trouble for any of the staff. We're so impressed with Larchfield that, when we found that we had to find a care home for my Mum due to a deterioration in her health, we had no hesitation in choosing it as her care home too. We'd have no hesitation in recommending Larchfield to anyone else looking for a care home for their family or loved ones.
