All staff, from managers, carers and cleaners, give their very best help and understanding of needs, stimulate and encourage interaction.
Entertainment is provided on a regular basis and I am informed of any changes in medication and behaviour and advised on my visits how to respond to my husband's needs.

The home itself is clean and his room is very nice, towels changed daily, washing done daily. Cleanliness is very good and mishaps are immediately dealt with. A very comfortable and happy surrounding. He's well settled and happy.

My mother has been in Holmlea for four years and had no problems at all. Staff are great and home very friendly. As it is a small home compared to most of them it is more personal and family-friendly.

I cannot recommend Holmlea Care Home enough. My friend who is 98 went into this home in June. She is very happy there.

The staff and the place are wonderful. She is always clean, well-fed and dressed. I think this is the best care home in the area (in my opinion).

My mother, aged 92, has been in Holmlea for 3 months, and throughout this time I have visited almost every day and been totally satisfied with her care. There is in place a structured care plan and managers are constantly in touch with health care professionals and update and involve me in any changes. All the staff are friendly, welcoming, supportive and professional and treat the residents with respect and welcome visitors. The environment is warm and comfortable and the food, personal care and cleanliness are exceptional.

Overall Experience

I have been putting this off for a while because quite frankly I could not find the words to fully convey the excellence of Holmlea. My Father-in-Law was a resident from 2013 to 2019 and was always treated with respect and dignity. From the day he walked in, he never looked back, he was so happy. For the last six months his health deteriorated to the extent he was put on end of life care. The staff were remarkable, going far beyond what was expected and we will be eternally grateful to them. We consider them good friends now and will continue to keep in touch.

What you have to understand about Holmlea is, the residents feel at home, it's comfortable, warm and cosy, my wife likens it to a high-quality B&B. There are activities every day, you could never get bored here, Easter, Christmas, Halloween etc are all celebrated with staff dressing up, garden parties in the summer, but if you just want a quiet place to sit that is not a problem either.

Oh yes! and the Home cooked food is delicious.

My mother was a resident at Holmlea Care Home from 2015 -2016 when she sadly passed away. We were reluctant for her to go into care but sadly she had Alzheimer's and my dad could no longer care for her at home. The staff were wonderful and looked after her so well. My partner's mother is now a resident at my recommendation and is being looked after extremely well. They are caring and loving and staff go above and beyond for residents.

Holmlea is a lovely caring home with excellent attentive staff who know each resident very well. There is a lovely 'homely atmosphere' which is evident whenever I visit. Grandma is happy and well cared for which gives all of the family wonderful peace of mind. The manager is always approachable and happy to help and the staff are always available for a quick chat or update. There are regular events which involve residents, staff and families and are always good fun, such as the recent fireworks display for bonfire night. We are glad that we chose Holmlea and would highly recommend the home to anyone looking for residential care for their loved one.

I visit my mother in Holmlea twice a week. She sits in the conservatory room and watches tv, especially when the programme has subtitles as she is hard of hearing. She also reads and joins in the frequent activities often but not always. The care home is well heated. The staff are friendly and maintain a communal atmosphere at all times. There are 3 cooked meals a day and there is usually a choice of menu. My mother is content. In my opinion, this is a much better place for my mother to be in than the previous establishment.

I've lived in Holmlea Care Home for 8 months and I find the staff very friendly and very kind. My meals are very good and I can get tea for myself and my visitors at any time. The atmosphere in the home is relaxing and there's no pressure.

Overall Experience

Holmlea is a very friendly home from home which caters exceptionally well for the residents' needs and wishes. There is a lovely warm atmosphere on entering the establishment, where visitors are always welcome and you never feel like you are bothering the staff. It is a family run home in which the family are often around and very approachable. (It is also notable that they too, as well as the staff, know the name of each resident.) The staff are friendly and caring far beyond their job descriptions. There are regular activities to suit everyone and special occasions are always celebrated which, as well as being tremendous fun, help the residents to be aware of the seasons etc - again family members are welcome and indeed encouraged to join in.

I feel blessed that mum is cared for in this wonderful place - it has greatly improved her quality of life which in turn has impacted on us all as a family. We have not seen mum this happy and content in a long time.

I must say I am totally satisfied with the care shown and commitment by the staff at Holmlea Care Home. They are both friendly yet professional to the highest degree. My father couldn't be happier and that, twinned with care and concern, to me are the most important things in later life. Can't fault the staff nor the overall standard of the home itself. Thank you, one and all.

Overall Experience
Holmlea Care Home is home from home for our dear mother who has been a resident for over a year.
Mother is 92 and suffers from Alzheimer's.
Holmlea is a traditional care home. It is not purpose built. It is an old house and has the feel and look of a private home.
The rooms are individual and are of different size and shape.
The care is excellent. The staff are cheerful, happy and always kind and endlessly patient with the residents. There is laughter, activities and above all a happy atmosphere.
Dignity and respect for residents is taken seriously.
The meals are well planned and are cooked fresh on the premises by the cook.
Visitors are always welcome and encouraged to come as often as they wish at any time.
Holmlea is a family run business and that is apparent. The owners are often on site and take a great personal interest in all aspects of the home.

What Holmlea may lack in contemporary fixtures and fittings, it more than makes up for in its happy, kind and caring atmosphere.

Overall Experience

Holmlea in North Shields has all the comforts of home, excellent staff and a happy, calm atmosphere. The staff are very welcoming to family and friends when visiting residents and they have many events that family/friends are invited to e.g. fayres, charity fundraisers etc. The staff are particularly attentive to individual needs and understand very well what each residents capabilities are. They encourage all residents to get involved with a variety of activities, including days out/visits to restaurants/theatre. The communal areas are of a high standard and individual bedrooms/bathrooms all very clean and homely. My mum suffers from Alzheimer's and the care and understanding she receives from staff is excellent and has made the transition from her own Home to a Care Home so much easier. They have a variety of weekly entertainment including - singers, musicians, animals, puppet theatre and staff are happy to join in games of skittles, dominoes and quizzes with Residents & Visitors.

Overall the quality of care given is in my opinion to a very high standard. I say this as I have got to know the staff very well during the last 2 years and I can also state that the dignity, respect and warmth shown to all the residents is very genuine.

There are more activities for the care home residents than at my mums previous care home. They occur and are not just for show on the wall. The staff seem to have more time for the residents. The food is ok, she especially enjoys the full English breakfast. They also put on entertainment often. The room where she sits is light and airy and has a tv which has subtitles on its programmes.

There is a genuine warmth and affection displayed by staff in Holmlea, which was a top need of mine when placing my lovely mam here. Even when faced with challenging behaviour, staff sensitively and caringly deal with it, in a manner which retains the clients dignity. I feel my mam is safe in terms of both her environment and her emotional well being. They don't loose sight of individuals within a group home, which is both refreshing and reassuring when they are caring for your loved one. I never want my mam to leave here! The manager is very approachable and a clear, caring leader which cascades to all staff, including the lovely domestic staff.

My mother is in the above care home. I have to say my mother is well looked after and provided with care and kindness suitable for her age (94) and infirmities, because of my ill health, I cannot see my mother much. Being in the care of the home I do not have to worry as the staff are kindness itself and very comfortable in looking after my mother.
