The staff at Cheviot Court are amazing! The care they provide is second to none. My mother resides on the top floor, and she is cared for as if she were their own. All of our family enjoy going into the home, and we are always met with a friendly smile and a chat. We feel our mother is very lucky to live here. Thank you so much for looking after our mother so well - we know she is always in safe hands.

When visiting Cheviot Court Care Home I find the staff, office and carers all very helpful. My relative finds the staff very kind. Because of Covid, I have not been in the home but I know my relative has her own room with everything she needs. Her medical requirements are always dealt with. I know there are activities too which is so good. The building and gardens too always look so nice.

When full-time care became a necessity for my cousin we were very apprehensive about how well her needs would be met. From the initial meeting throughout a very difficult time of Covid-19, we found the care provided to be unfailingly compassionate and appropriately targeted to meet her complex needs. The staff are always helpful, feedback on her daily routine showed she is being well cared for and is happy.
Since being able to take my cousin out, we can see how well she is in herself and how much detail as her personal appearance is given consideration. My cousin is happy, healthy and settled - it's great.

Due to pandemic - not able to comment on rooms, facilities and activities.

Lovely warm, comfortable sitting areas. Residents are unable to concentrate on television programmes. Old-time music hall tunes could be played more. I have only once witnessed communal activity - passing and catching a soft ball or balloon. More stimulus like this needed. More help could be given to help residents drink their morning tea - many asleep and don't realise their drinks are there. Carers spend a lot of time on computers.

As a daughter, I need to know that my mother is safe, clean, well cared for, treated with kindness and dignity, listened to and respected. Cheviot Court provides all of the above and I, along with my family, can rest easy knowing she is in capable hands and that she feels safe and cared for. A wonderful environment for my mother.

My mother has lived in Cheviot Court, South Shields for 3 years, 8 months. She has thrived in this place compared to her life at home and in hospital. She is always clean, well dressed, has a good choice of food at mealtimes and has enjoyed numerous activities.

The staff are friendly and caring. They are always helpful and cheerful and there is lots of chatter and laughter. The home is always spotlessly clean and attractive and very welcoming. The staff know all the residents and their needs. I have recommended and praised Cheviot Court to a number of people.

All the staff are friendly and nothing is a problem for them. All my Mam's care needs are met with both dignity and respect. Staff take time to speak and include my Mam in their day. I have no concerns about the care that my Mam is receiving as she is happy and settled since being in the home her health has improved.

We had already heard from friends who have had relatives in Cheviot Court that it is an exceptional care home, so our expectations were already high. We have not been disappointed. Mam is getting the very best of care from a caring/committed team who work together to provide a safe, comfortable and engaging environment for the residents. Staff are also very supportive of residents' family, we have been very aware of this as Mam has been settling into her new home.

Having my mother-in-law in Cheviot Court, I think the rooms and decor are very pleasing, always clean and well kept. The staff are always very polite and very professional and caring. My father-in-law was in for respite, the care and help was very good. The only downfall was the food, for the amount of money paid food was not up to standard.

When looking for a care home for our mother we were recommended Cheviot Court. Our visit was so welcoming from the management team to meeting the care staff. We always feel welcome when we visit our mother, the staff are great and we are kept well informed of mam's well-being. The staff work very hard to maintain a very high standard of care and we as a family would have no hesitation in recommending Cheviot Court to others.

Cheviot Court is a very well run care home. The manager and administrator are always available to talk and discuss anything with you. They are always cheerful and join in all the events.
The care staff are excellent, even though their patience can be stretched to the limit with the individual demands of each resident. The food is very good and all the staff try to understand the needs of individual residents. The activity coordinator works very hard to provide a variety of entertainment and activities.
All staff are very stretched at all times noticeably on weekends.

Entertainment at a weekend would be nice but it all adds to the cost.

Louise DammsJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2010
I’ve worked at Cheviot Court since 2004, and became the home’s manager in 2010. I started as a domestic and worked my way up.
I really like that we’re one big family in this home – residents and colleagues alike. We look out for each other, and support each other – just like families do.
I’m proud of the hardworking team here at Cheviot Court. We aim to achieve the highest standards in all areas of the home’s life. I believe in supporting my team to do their best work and fulfil their potential, because, when they’re happy, residents are happy.
Residents at Cheviot Court have choice and freedom. They decide how they live their life and what they do each day. We aim to make everything resident-led.

It’s an effective approach. When I see residents enjoying an activity, chatting together over lunch, or happy at the end of the day, I know we’ve got it right.
