My mam was in Windermere Grange for rehabilitation care. Following a stay in the hospital.
We were made very welcome. The carers in the home could have not been any more helpful. They listened to what my mam wanted and the care she received was excellent. The carers went above and beyond to meet my
mam's needs without taking away her independence and more importantly respected her dignity.
On admission, the home manager stayed almost 2 hours over her finish time to make sure Mam was settled and we understood all the facilities the home had to offer.
I would not hesitate to recommend Windermere Grange to people who need care for loved ones.

My mam lived at Windermere Grange for fifteen months following a decline in her health. The home was well run and we were kept informed about her health. The accommodation was pleasant and the staff were excellent. Although my mam was quite a shy person, they encouraged her to join in with social and
craft activities, which she enjoyed. The management bent over backwards to accommodate my brother coming up from London to visit her when he could. Most importantly, the staff attending her were superb.

Very reassuring. My Aunt immediately looked and felt better. The staff always say hello and are welcoming. The food looked plentiful.
Usually, you can park near. Very clean on all our visits.
Able to anticipate and address needs.
From the first time, the manager met My Aunt we were all reassured.

Windermere Grange looked after my mum, who sadly passed away in April 2020. When Dad needed care, it was the first place I went to and was so relieved when they said that they could accommodate him. Dad is familiar with the home, and most of the staff, and has settled in really well. After two bad falls
at his home in 5 days, resulting in a broken hip with the second, the relief that I and my brothers feel in knowing that he is being taken well care of is difficult to put into words. He is now safe; in safe hands. I can't thank them enough.

My uncle has been cared for at Windermere Grange for over two years and during that time he has always looked well cared for and happy. The home is clean, tidy and well organised. The staff have always been caring, friendly, helpful and professional. When his health deteriorated he was cared for with
gentle dignity. During this time my family were supported with care and compassion. We have never had any concerns or worries and have valued the care the home gave my uncle at all times.

My nana moved into this home in October I was very scared about leaving her. The staff in this service have been nothing but amazing from the day we got shown around. The whole building is immaculate and it’s bright, white and open which was good for my nana. Nothing is a trouble and the staff are brilliant,
nothing is an issue. I can settle knowing my nana is in the best possible hands. It’s a homely, welcoming place and I’m glad my nana has found her new home! Brilliant work from team Windermere.

My dad went into Windermere Grange during the pandemic 'lockdown'. We were unable to visit the home prior to his placement, so it was difficult to know if we were making the right choice for him. Once we were allowed to visit him inside the home, it was apparent that he was well settled and was receiving
the care that he needed. The staff are very helpful and seem to have built a good rapport with Dad.
The family are happy that we chose Windermere Grange and would happily recommend it to others.

I visited my mum from London and wanted to maximise my time in Middlesbrough, wishing to see her on three consecutive days. The manager/staff were extremely accommodating in planning my time and clarity of what was needed. Whilst there it was obvious Mam was getting excellent care in an excellent facility.
Thank you!

Looked at a few care homes with a friend and liked Windermere from walking through the front entrance, bright, spacious, clean and friendly staff. Rooms are a decent size with nice furniture. The decor along the corridors and sitting areas on the dementia floor are lovely. Nothing seems to be too much
trouble if you need help the staff are there quick. Nice to see my friend can finally settle knowing her Mam is looked after well.

Amazing. From walking in the door, knew this was the care home for Mam, 87, with dementia. Staff from top to cleaners all great, greet you with a smile, work as a team. Nothing is too much trouble. If you need help, press the button and there ASAP. Room lovely, nice furniture. Mam settled great. After
6-years of caring for Mam, I can now sleep at night knowing Mam is safe and being well looked after. Thank you all so much for giving me my life back.

My mum was "bed blocking" in the hospital in the area. The council have me two days to find a home. I picked Windermere because it had good reviews, and they were not wrong. It is a lovely home, and the staff are fantastic. They work so hard not just caring but engaging with and encouraging the residents
to feel a part of the Windermere family. Extremely happy my mum spent time here.

I would like to thank both the admin staff and nursing staff for their wonderful care in looking after my mum. I had a lovely indoor visit with Mum today she was very happy. Looking ahead, and restrictions easing, hopefully in the near future we can share many happy days together and enjoy more visits.
Windermere staff always excel with their care and are always happy to help with any issues that may arise.

We had a socially distanced visit with my mother-in-law in the visiting room this week. The staff allowed us to visit outside normal visiting times to accommodate my husband's work restrictions. The staff member was very welcoming. As we did not have access to the rest of the home, one of the carers
popped in to make sure my mother-in-law was OK, after about fifteen minutes. The staff have always done as much as they could through the pandemic to allow as much communication as possible with loved ones.

No faults at all at Windermere Grange and we are kept notified weekly about the home and what information we need to hear. My brother and the other patients are well looked after and we have no worries. My brother is extremely happy there and I am amazed about the way he has settled in. Previously he
would turn every offer of help down. The staff are all good and efficient.

My mother has been in the home since the end of March 2019 and I cannot praise the staff enough for making my mum feel safe and secure. My mum's mood and wellbeing is improving through the support and encouragement she receives from all volunteers/staff. The home is friendly, bright, airy and very
clean and always very welcoming to visitors and family members. The cooks are wonderful who provide a wide variety of well-balanced meals throughout the day. I would very much recommend Windermere Grange for anyone looking to have their loved ones to be looked after.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.883)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.883) out of 10 for Windermere Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.814 for Windermere Grange is calculated as follows: ( (58 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.814
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.069 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Windermere Grange is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 12.8 = 0.469
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Donna

Donna Jones

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2018

Donna has been employed by St Martins Care since January 2018, initially on a temporary basis to support the manager at the time and she is still with us but now as the home manager. Donna's career path has always been in care. After leaving school she joined a youth training scheme which involved “calling in” on the elderly. It may have been a call to have a cuppa and a chat or take an elderly person to the local shop for bits and bobs and she really enjoyed it. College and studies in health and social care followed. Donna's career in social care proper started in 2009 as a care assistant. After her children grew up, Donna was proud to continue her studies and completed Access to Nursing Course, NVQ level 2, 3 and 5 which provided her with the qualifications to be where and who she is today. Donna is living proof that care assistants can, with the right support, progress to a registered managers position. When asked about her plans for Windermere Grange, Donna says "Windermere Grange has that homely feel as soon as you walk in. I want that to continue whilst delivering the kindest care possible."

Nicola

Nicola Fox

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2010

Nicola has worked in adult social care for over 20 years and has worked for St Martins Care for over 10 years. She did leave to try a different career path but found that it was not for her and she quickly returned to Windermere Grange because, she says, "this is my home". Nicola is the perfect example of the career progression that is possible in adult social care and at St Martins Care. Nicola started her career in care as a Care Assistant with no qualifications, obtained her NVQ 2 and NVQ 3 which enabled her to progress initially to Acting Senior for a year before being promoted to Senior Carer with her own team. After that, Nicola moved into the role of Deputy Manager in 2018 and still continuing to progress further. When asked why she wants to work in adult social care, Nicola explains, "I first started my care worker position in 2000 as I felt I could make some changes to the lives of those who required 24 hour support, and implement continuity and structure for those we support." Commenting on her career aspirations, Nicola says. "I have recently completed my NVQ 5 (Management and Leadership) as there is always room to progress your career with St Martins Care. I feel I can improve the quality of care for those we support at Windermere Grange care home, and that we can maintain and develop a comfortable homely setting for those who reside here. We want to create a real "home from home" experience. I feel good structure and support for those who reside at Windermere Grange is vitally important so that we are able to stimulate and motivate those we support, encouraging them to remain as independent as possible."

Joanne McIntyre

Job Title: LD Manager Joined: 2015

Joanne has worked in social care for 14 years most of that time with adults with learning disabilities. When Joanne first applied to work in social care she felt that she had the skills to support and help people. Time has proven her right and this soon became her passion and she has never looked back. Joanne joined St Martins Care in June 2015 and has been the manager of the Learning Disabilities unit at Windermere Grange since then. When asked about her role at St Martins Care, Joanne says, "My job is my passion and every day I learn something new. We laugh, we cry and, where we can, we laugh some more. Every individual we support is just that, an individual, and supported to live a full and meaningful life and always encouraged to reach for the sky. The look of joy at a new achievement, however big or small, and the feeling that gives is why I come to work each day." When asked about her vision for the Windermere Grange LD Unit, Joanne is clear, "To always put people first and share their vision for their home."
