The staff at Green Lodge are very professional, caring, friendly and approachable. The staff are very skilled at supporting my husband in all areas of his care, they understand and respond to his needs well and always show patience, understanding and compassion whilst supporting him. Above all, my husband
is happy and settled in Green Lodge and he enjoys banter with staff and residents. When visiting Green Lodge you are guaranteed a warm, friendly welcome and a cup of tea.

Green Lodge have taken great care of my mum and dad when they have needed to rehabilitate before going home.
The home is clean but not clinical (a hard mix to achieve). It is well run, full of caring staff who engage with the residents and ensure their needs are met. Food is lovely, plenty of tea
- on demand if needed (which is important to my family).
I have found all of the staff to be accommodating, helpful, trustworthy and truthful - and most importantly they do work as a team.
They have actively helped rehabilitate both of my parents and worked with me and other agencies involved to get the right care and on each occasion that my dad has taken ill, they have picked up on in the early stages, taken action and helped us avoid bigger problems.
Sure there is an odd niggle here or there, after all, no-one is perfect, but Green Lodge comes pretty close.

The only reason my mother has left the home is that the new care home is 500 yards from my house and very close to my son and daughter. My mother loved it here with 5-star food.
Many thanks.

Generally speaking I have no complaints regarding the home. However, at no time in the six months that my Aunt has been resident has any senior member of staff enquired as to any issues we might have. We have always had to raise them for this reason and that feels like we are often complaining.
Reply from Martin Carter-Davidson, Care Home Manager at Green Lodge Care Home

Many thanks for taking the time to review our home. I am sorry to hear that you feel our staff have not enquired about your Aunt’s stay. I urge you to come speak to me directly or via email to discuss how we can improve the care of your Aunt. Regarding the cleanliness, this is a core part of what we do, so I will be investigating how we can improve this and would welcome your feedback on this matter. Kind regards, Care Home Manager.

The care that my Dad receives varies, depending on the shifts of staff. Generally speaking, the staff care deeply about the residents and go out of their way to ensure that he is cared for and comfortable. One of the laundry staff makes sure that Dad has enough clothing before she goes home after her
shift. I could wish that the cleaning of rooms was more efficient, though again that depends on individual staff. Some staff try hard to ensure that Dad eats and drinks plenty. Regular shaving has improved recently and this makes Dad more comfortable.

Thank you for your review. I’m glad that our staff and the care meets your expectations and that your dad is comfortable. If you can provide me with more information regarding the cleaning of his room, I can investigate this for you. Please feel free to speak to me in person or via email. My wife is a resident in the dementia ward. She seems to be happy and settled there and is responsive to the resident carers there who take care of her needs. With vascular dementia routine and familiarity is of prime concern to her but she is not very responsive to unfamiliar faces eg., some of the
agency staff. She sometimes refuses to let them change her if she has not been changed. I change her and dress her. She has a happy nature and is well liked by the staff. She likes to sit in the nice garden with me and is quite chatty with a good sense of humour. I have seen a big improvement in her over the year.

All the care staff and the management are very welcoming and accommodating. They are caring, patient and attentive. I have been a regular visitor since October 2017 and the above comments have always been appropriate. The staff have delivered a high standard of care over a sustained period of time.
My Dad is very happy here and this is by far the best care home I have ever been in.

I am so pleased that we chose Green Lodge as a permanent residence for my aunt. The home is bright and clean. The hardworking staff are always cheerful and provide a happy welcoming atmosphere.
I was worried about my aunt settling there, but she has developed a great rapport with the staff and has
settled well. My aunt is somebody who doesn't easily join in with activities. But there is such a range of activities at Green Lodge that she is joining in to many and she's enjoying herself.
Her physical and psychological health have improved since she's been at Green Lodge, firstly because she is now eating properly, and secondly because she enjoys the company there.
The management at Green Lodge are exceptional in their passion for making it the best place it can possibly be. They are at the moment revamping the lovely large garden into a sensory garden for the use of the residents. I'm very happy with my aunt's care at Green Lodge.

My Dad needed an emergency admission so we did not have the opportunity of looking around to find a care home for him.
Green Lodge was organised for us and from the moment we arrived the staff made us all feel extremely welcome.
Dad is very well looked after, treated with dignity by professional,
caring and friendly staff who create a wonderful family atmosphere.

I have been visiting my friend since he moved into Green Lodge and I have been impressed with the cleanliness of the home. There is no smell of soiled bedding or furniture, (which I have experienced in other places I visit). I like the idea of daily activities, even though my friend does not participate.
My friend has vascular dementia and is very confused a lot of the time. However, he is treated with respect and has never, to my knowledge, been forced to do anything he does not wish to. This includes help with washing and shaving, medication and freedom to go out to his club, where he enjoys a pint and chat. The staff are friendly, supportive and communicative.

Up until January this year, both my parents were residents in this home. Sadly mum passed away and the care and compassion afforded to the family at this time was exemplary. My dad still lives there and is happy and well cared for by committed and professional staff who treat dad with respect and dignity.
I would not hesitate to recommend this care home to friends and family.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.165)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.165) out of 10 for Green Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.829 for Green Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (72 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 82 Ratings = 4.829
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.336 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Green Lodge Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 11 = 0.636
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hello, my name is Sharon Easterbrook-Smith and I am the Registered Manager at Green Lodge Care Home. My passion for care started at a young age as I grew up living opposite a residential care home and used to visit the residents there often.

This inspired me to pursue a career in care and 1988 I began my first role as a care assistant. I progressed to senior care assistant before becoming a manager and joining the Orchard family in 2018.
