My father has been a resident due to vascular dementia for 5 years now, the hardest decision you will ever make is to entrust your loved ones care to people you don't know. The guilt and sadness runs deep initially.
Now I have the utmost respect and confidence with all at Acorn Grange in West Cornforth.
In a recent choking incident my father could have easily died but for the quick thinking of the professional staff.
The communication to myself regarding my father's health, progress and well being, in general, is first class.

The staff at Acorn Grange do a fantastic job under daily pressure of caring for their residents who are extremely well cared for. They have varied activities for them daily and organise trips out. We, as a family, feel that this is a safe environment as all doors are keycoded so residents cannot go
on walkabout without carer's knowledge.

Mam has been in Acorn Grange for nearly two months now. I still visit daily, although I'm reviewing this because it is upsetting to us both. The home is clean and tidy. The staff are lovely, very helpful and attentive to clients needs. There always seems to be a good level of staff and they are patient
and kind to what must be a very repetitive caring situation. It always seems to be teatime, the meals look lovely. Mams room is really nice. I've made a scrapbook of mamas life which the staff asked of me and they use it to reminisce. The manager is always on hand to review mams care and well being, and what I thought was really nice these last few days, while hot, was giving residents cold drinks to keep them hydrated.

Dad was in hospital and we had to find a care home very quickly as we live near London and he lives in the North East. Acorn Grange is amazing. It's friendly, clean and very professionally run. The manager is a lovely lady and the staff reflect her care, enthusiasm and willingness to go the extra mile.
Dad is very happy here and when I leave to go home, I'm safe in the knowledge he's looked after 100%. 10/10 from us. Well done.

My mother has been resident at Acorn Grange Nursing Home for almost one year. She is happy there, well cared for and cared about. The staff and management go out of their way to make sure all of those in their care are treated with kindness and dignity. The facilities are good and the staff are experienced.
I have no concerns at all regarding the excellent care provided for my mother.

A very caring and friendly atmosphere. My mum has many difficulties with anxiety and since moving into Acorn Grange, the time I spend with her both in the home and outside of it, is much better and that is partly due to the staff and manager who are helping to support her to have a much better quality
of life than she would otherwise.

As someone who had experience of the care home system, it was with some trepidation that I made the decision to move my mother to Acorn Grange Nursing Home. Mother and the rest of our family were immediately put at ease simply by the care shown and the decency afforded to both residents and visitors,
in particular, the current management is first class leaving us safe in the knowledge that our loved one is receiving the care that she requires and indeed deserves.

My relative has been a resident here for the last 21 months in that time, we have seen three changes of management and in two cases for the better. This establishment has a high standard of care, residents are well looked after and nothing is too much trouble for the staff when asked questions, very
helpful. It's good to find a manager who is very approachable and this we have at Acorn Grange. Warm, cosy atmosphere. Staff very friendly. We are kept up to date with everything going on in the home and indeed if and when there are any problems arising concerning my relative

You may receive other reviews with all ratings as excellent but they will likely be exaggerated, but not in this case.
Five weeks ago I felt my life was at its lowest ebb when my wife had to be placed in care. I felt guilty as I could no longer manage home care, I sunk into deep depression and experienced
thoughts of ending my life, but together with social worker support and the staff and manageress, they have given my wife a quality of life that I could not hope to give her.
I have been in every part of Acorn Grange and never seen such cleanliness, interaction with residents and every rating below is not any exaggeration but shows the quality of Acorn Grange. I owe them two lives.

Acorn Grange changed my grandma from being unhappy and unsettled (although we tried our best) to a glowing ray of sunshine. They kept her clean and tidy every single day. They work around the clock for each person in there and keep everything professional and everything is all about the residents. I
recommend Acorn Grange to absolutely anybody who is struggling with Alzheimer's, they kept my grandma alive for as long as they did, and kept her happy with a twinkle in her eye until the very end. They treat the residents with dignity and respect in every aspect of care, they look after them with such respect. The carers do that good of a job, that the residents only ever feel fully safe around them, and look at them with love. Couldn't pick out a bad thing, and I visited my grandma a lot each week. No doubt about it, they gave my grandma the best care you could imagine.

This care home has been a God send for my mother as she has Dementia. Staff are extremely friendly and nothing has been too much trouble to them. The food looks very appetising which is good to encourage the residents to eat. The rooms are very clean and bright. I didn't think my mother would settle
in as well as she did but I think this was down to the staff and their professionalism.

Acorn Grange is a hidden gem. The more I go the more I am impressed.
My husband has dementia and he has been going to Acorn Grange for regular respite over several months.
The home is very well managed and this is reflected in the wonderful caring staff.
They are always there, happy to help and answer
any questions.
My husband loves going and although he has dementia, if he was treated unkindly he would not want to go.

My father in law has been in 'Acorn Grange Nursing Home' since February 2016. He has been well looked after by friendly staff. His room is fine but could be improved by en-suite facilities. Food is good and he is clean and safe. I think there could be more entertainment for residents. We visit dad every
day and are welcomed by all staff. Like most homes, more staff should be welcome.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.752)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.752) out of 10 for Acorn Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.500 for Acorn Grange is calculated as follows: ( (41 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.252 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Acorn Grange is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 46 registered maximum number of service users is 9.2. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.2 = 0.652
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
