My sister and I were completely overwhelmed by the care and attention given to our dad during his stay with them. We really could not have chosen a better place for him during his time of need. He was always treated with compassion, dignity and total understanding.
'Thank you' does not come close
to expressing our gratitude. They are all such very special people, and we will never forget their kindness.
Reply from Claire McArdle, Registered Manager at St Aidan Lodge Residential Care HomeThank you for your review. It was our pleasure to care for your dad, and we are really pleased you felt comforted by the care he received.

I was so pleased when I was offered a place for my mother at this care home, as they cared for my grandmother too. Several carers were still there 15 years later to care for my mother.
Excellent staff, so friendly and supportive and genuinely care about the residents. The home is immaculate, and I
know my mother is safe and well looked after. I thank each and every one of them for the care they give.
Reply from Claire McArdle, Registered Manager at St Aidan Lodge Residential Care HomeThank you for your review; it's a pleasure to see families coming back to us for care. The team enjoy catching up with families and helping out with the next generation. We will share your thoughts and experience with the whole team.

I cannot praise the staff highly enough. They were, without exception, helpful, kind, always cheerful and ready to help in any way.
I think perhaps the decor could do with a little updating!
Reply from Claire McArdle, Registered Manager at St Aidan Lodge Residential Care HomeThank you for your review, Doris; it was a pleasure to look after you, and if you require any further respite care, we would welcome you back. Thank you for the feedback on the decor, we recently had a decorating team in to do some bedrooms, and they are returning in the next few weeks to start on communal areas. We have also recently ordered 20 new armchairs for the communal areas and are in the process of ordering new benches for the garden. You would no doubt appreciate that it is a rolling programme of renewals and updating. We look forward to seeing you again.

What a terrible experience we have had at this home. Please don’t put your loved ones through what we have been through. Every individual deserves to be cared for and given dignity. We are a close family and felt that we had to visit every day to give us peace of mind knowing that he was okay. We needed
reassurance, the lack of communication didn’t help at all. We have had to take him out of this home. Management and staff watching us struggle with his Zimmer frame, wheelchair and belongings, no help was offered. Absolutely appalling.
Reply from Claire McArdle, Registered Manager at St Aidan Lodge Residential Care HomeThank you for your review. We are sorry you felt your experience was not what you expected. We welcome all constructive feedback and use it in our staff learning programme to enhance our service. All successful placements require a strong working relationship with open communication, transparency and trust between caregivers and the family of a resident. We held meetings with you and the allocated social worker to discuss any concerns you held, you refused to attend a follow on meeting offered. There were also 96 emails between you and our team during the stay. The social worker stated in writing that she had no concerns of the quality of care given at St Aidan Lodge. We are now aware that your relative had 2 other placements in care or packages of home care terminated shortly before coming to stay with us. We hope that you can find a way of working with the new care home to help ensure this, their fourth placement is fruitful and long term, we wish your relative all the best.

My husband received excellent respite care at St Aidan Lodge in May.
The management team have a wealth of experience. They are professional, compassionate and extremely approachable.
Senior carers lead by example. They are always willing to answer questions and work hard to fulfil residents and
their family's needs.
The carers are a really hard-working team of caring people. Friendly, experienced individuals. They readily smile and deeply care for the residents.
The food is excellent. Laundry and cleaning service first class.
Thank you to everyone in St Aidan Lodge; you provide an excellent standard of care.
Reply from Claire McArdle, Registered manager at St Aidan Lodge Residential Care HomeThank you for the review, and we are really pleased that your experience was so positive and you felt so reassured by the care. We will share your kind words with our team, and if your husband needs our care again for another respite, you know we'll be here for you both.

My grandma is so settled in this care home. The support she has had from staff has been amazing. This care home is immaculate, and she now loves going to the lounge and making friends. The food is outstanding, and the staff regularly put on events for the residents. Staff at St Aidan's are constantly
busy and do a wonderful job.
Reply from Claire McArdle, registered manager at St Aidan Lodge Residential Care HomeThank you, Leanne, for the kind words; we are also really pleased to see how your grandma has settled. It's so nice to see new friendships forming between residents; everyone benefits from those interactions. See you soon.

The staff at St Aidan looked after our elderly mother with dementia for over seven years. I could not fault their care and compassion, always treating Mum with dignity and kindness.
Not living close to St Aidan, the staff always made sure I was kept informed about Mum.
During Covid, they went the
extra mile and beyond to keep residents safe, even isolating themselves from their families in case they brought Covid back into the home.
When Mum’s time came, they made sure she was comfortable and could die peacefully
with her family around her.
The staff supported us at every stage of Mum’s care, and I think they are all amazing!

I just wanted to thank all the team at St Aidan Lodge for your kindness, compassion and understanding in looking after my father for two weeks of respite care recently. We appreciated the efforts made to ensure he settled in well, which he did, connecting with other residents and was able to do some
activities and was well looked after re his medical and other personal needs.
It's great to know that we have an excellent care home in St Aidan Lodge so close to where he lives. He may well be back!

My mam spent the last six months of her life at St Aidan's, and during that time, she was happy, well cared for, safe and secure. The food was excellent, and there was always an alternative if she was feeling fussy, nothing was ever a bother in the kitchen, and even her demands for chicken soup were
met. Every member of staff, from the manager to the laundry, was helpful, polite, friendly and professional at all times; they spent time with my mam and did their utmost to ensure she was as comfortable as possible. Even during the trying times of Covid, we were always able to visit every day, at whatever time suited us, and there was never any pressure to leave, sometimes staying late into the evening. After a stay in the hospital, St Aidan welcomed my mam back to her room for her end-of-life care, and not only did they look after her wonderfully, but they also looked after us, enabling us to be there with her 24 hours a day. We really can not praise or thank the staff enough for what they did. Thank you!

My gran spent her final years at this home, so it was an obvious choice when my mother needed care. Unfortunately, my mother only had a couple of months there, but in that time, she was well cared for.
She needed daily district nurse care, and St Aidan's staff had a good rapport and communication
with community services.
My mam had dementia, but there were plenty of activities to keep her stimulated and entertained.
The food was excellent. My mam had a poor diet prior to living in St Adian, but suddenly she was having fruit, afternoon tea and lovely balanced meals.
Her clothes were always clean, and the laundry service was very good.
Finally, the staff! They are working in very difficult circumstances at present - due to Covid. Even though there are staffing shortages throughout the sector, my family received timely, relevant information about our mother. Staff were always polite and pleasant - such a shame we didn’t get to know them better! Many thanks to the whole team.

The staff at St Aidan’s are excellent, and the faculties/rooms are spacious and clean. I have experience of a couple of other care homes in the area, and St Aidan’s is by far the best in my opinion.
Covid has been harsh on all care homes, but St Aidan’s have tried very hard to balance risk and accessibility
- I feel my relatives are very safe.

My mum moved into St Aidan's Lodge 4-months ago. Despite the change being challenging both for Mum and the family, the staff have been there every step of the way to ensure that Mum is now in the best place for the continued care she needs.
Recently, Mum has had some health challenges, and the staff
have handled everything very professionally with Mum's best interests always to the fore while keeping in touch with me and my sister.
The building itself is warm and welcoming, and staff go out of their way to accommodate our visiting needs as we all travel from afar to visit as it was Mum's wish to remain in the area.
Due to Covid, we probably delayed finding Mum a care home, and we worried if we'd made the right move. I can only say that finding Mum a place where she wanted to be, in a place where all her needs are met, has allowed Mum to come to terms with the massive challenges that old age has brought to her over the last few years.
Bit hard to score with reduced activities due to Covid.

My relative is very happy in this care home. The staff are kind and caring to her and to me with regular contact by email and phone, and any individual and specific queries are addressed promptly. It is really good to have such personal contact with staff and management, whom is me and their residents
personally, rather than dealing with faceless office staff, who are centrally based as is the case for the large national company care providers. The home has a friendly, family feel, and the staff are all regular and longstanding, which means they can build a really great rapport with the residents. In these trying times of a pandemic, this home has done everything possible to ensure the safety of residents and facilitate visits etc, where possible, and morale and spirits have remained very good.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.874)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.874) out of 10 for St Aidan Lodge Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.949 for St Aidan Lodge Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (189 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 198 Ratings = 4.949
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Aidan Lodge Residential Care Home is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
