Both my mam and step father have been residents for over 3yrs...initially together but due to mams dementia a decision to separate for their own wellbeing was decided by all.
Both now on different floors due to different health needs.
Prior this ive never had experience of a care home.
I visit as
frequency as possible and have actually become attached to the wonderful atmosphere and care the residents receive. .and have always been made to feel welcome.
This home is that, a home from home for the residents with splendid care and a dedicated entertainment team, which includes many walks and fresh air weather permitting.
For myself a care homes number one success lays with the staff and teamwork inclusive of everyone and I wouldnt hesitate recommending this care home, the staff here are actually the care home.
With such grateful thanks and respect to Samantha .. x

Mother in law (L) was discharged to Darlington Manor in Feb 2021 following # hip. She died there of frailty in Dec 2025.
Throughout her stay, she and our family have seen the compassion, respect and professionalism of all staff.
There is no doubt that the leadership of the manager is key to this.
They were endlessly patient with L, treating her warmly and respectfully, maximising her enjoyment and led by her wishes whenever possible. They laughed and danced with her, managed her husband with kindness and cried with us when she died. We are eternally grateful.
Reply from Andrea Pickering, Quality Care Manager at Darlington ManorThank you so much for taking the time to share such a moving tribute to our team at Darlington Manor and to the care your mother-in-law received. Your words mean more to us than we can adequately express.

It was an honour for the team at Darlington Manor to have been part of her life and to have supported your family during her time at Darlington Manor. As you walk through the doors there is always a friendly face. The staff are amazing, Ellie, Laura, Tracy, Sam, Alicia, Leanne have a special place in my heart and all are brilliant as they always know if Ken or Rita are doing ok. Ken recently had his best friend admitted to the Manor, in the room opposite
however Bill has recently passed away. The staff have been in very regular to make sure Ken is managing his emotions. Good great, cleanliness fantastic.
Reply from Andrea Pickering, Quality Care Manager at Darlington ManorThank you so much for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful and heartfelt review. We are delighted to hear that you are always greeted with a friendly face and that our staff have made such a positive impact. The staff you have named will be especially touched to know they hold such a special place in your heart. My mum has suffered with dementia since 2020, sadly this year she had a stroke. After she returned home it became obvious dad was not going to manage even with us and carers visiting.
We turned up on the door step of the care home and were welcomed in, all the staff were smiling and said "hello".
We were showed around, they asked all about mum and all our questions answered. We left feeling it was a home from home.
Mum moved in and we could not of asked for a better, smoother transition. The staff knew how we were feeling make this large change to all our lives and we where given great support as well as the warm welcome mum received. Since then the staff have got to know us and more importantly they know my mum so well. She will try to avoid doing somethings and when it comes to getting mum to eat !! they have worked with her and have improved her eating better than we could of hoped.
We are really pleased with the care, love and support we see all residents receiving. Well done.

Just been to visit my mam again. The staff here are amazing, the way they deal with the residents, the patience they have, the effort they put in to being kind and lovely to the residents is really great to see. The residents had been to the park this morning, and were having a sing a long when I got
there. Earlier in the week they were playing bingo when I was there. Darlington Manor is a great place, a big big part of that is the staff. I love my mam being there.

The staff are wonderful. The staff are what makes this care home truly different. They are always so pleasant, cheerful, and quickly helpful and always make me feel a very welcome visitor. I am welcome at mealtimes and was warmly invited to a lovely two-course lunch. The food is very good. On one visit
I witnessed the chef going around talking to residents about the menu items and references of residents. The building is always spotlessly clean and tidy. Care home work and management is very difficult. Darlington Manor management enables all the staff to come together and work not just as a good team but as a family. The result is a home, where all the staff are willing to go the extra mile with a pleasant smile and cheerful voice.

My review covers the three years my dad spent at the care home, daily telephone conversations and weekly visits. The consistent care continues right to the very end. Dad always told us he was well looked after and very content with the home. (Apart from being very frustrated at times that he wasn't
allowed out on his own!).

We found Darlington Manor to provide excellent care for my mother-in-law. It totally changed our opinions on care homes. From daily care to providing an extensive range of activities for the residents was amazing. My mother-in-law loved living here and that helped put our minds at rest knowing she was
so well looked after. We would recommend Darlington Manor to anyone looking for a care home. The staff were all amazing!

I was unable to visit Darlington Manor prior to choosing it as a home for my mum, due to Covid. Several friends recommended it. I can honestly say that all of the staff from housekeeping, catering, management and care staff are totally caring and go over and above for their residents. They treat everyone
as though they were family. Mum's dementia made her distressed at times and the staff always tried everything to calm her. Mum deteriorated and died in early March and the staff kept me informed to the end. Ringing me on an evening to reassure me even when I had been in twice that day. They always treat me so well, remembering my name, making cups of tea and looking out for me. Thoroughly recommended, a diamond of a care home.

My mum was staying at Darlington Manor from January to March 2021 for respite and rehabilitation. Unfortunately, her health deteriorated and she sadly died on March 17th. During her stay, we were only allowed to visit her in a pod due to Covid restrictions until the last two weeks of her life when we
were able to enter her room to be with her. We found the staff to be very caring, dedicated and professional.
Nothing appeared to be too much trouble. On a couple of occasions, I commented that the staff appeared to be very nice and mum's reply was 'all the staff are nice here'. My partner and I would like to say a very big thank you to all the staff who helped us get through a very sad time.

My elderly mum with multiple health issues spent nearly 3 weeks in Manor Care Home and throughout the whole time, she appeared very well cared for especially with respect to being dressed and having her hair and nails done. We (dad and I) were fortunate enough to be able to visit mum due to the Covid
secure pod which was a real bonus as we hadn't seen mum whilst she'd been in different hospitals. From the first day mum was in Manor Care Home (Darlington) communication was great, staff answered the phone after a couple of rings and the same with the door when we were visiting. All the staff I spoke to or met couldn't have been nicer, very professional, friendly and caring. Mum said she enjoyed the meals and activities provided. The standard of cleanliness seemed very high.

had plenty of fun and varied activities for all residents. Thank you all for being lovely.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.083)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.083) out of 10 for Darlington Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.766 for Darlington Manor is calculated as follows: ( (74 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.766
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.317 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Darlington Manor is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.65
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.667
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
