A well run care home with some excellent staff. Close relationships are formed between staff and residents helping to make the home an enjoyable place to live. Management is responsive to any problems that arise. Activities could be improved with a better activities budget.

While the staff were very friendly I was disappointed about the fact that I said I would take care of any laundry but this wasn't done. As this was emergency respite (2 weeks only) thing did not get named & unfortunately some thing were lost.

My relative first stayed at The Lawns in spring of 2025, for a period of rehabilitation following a fall. With the support of the friendly and caring staff she made excellent progress and returned to her home sooner than anticipated.
Unfortunately, upon returning home she acknowledged that she could
no longer manage and so chose to return to residential care, wanting to return to The Lawns. Before this could happen there was another fall which required another hospital stay, and discharge to another care home. This experience made her even more determined to be back in The Lawns.
Her room is cosy and comfortable, with the option of personalising her new home. All staff are friendly and responsive to requests; the manager and senior staff are knowledgeable, approachable and understanding of relative's concerns. There have been some "settling in" concerns, but the open door policy operated by the leadership means that, once discussed, these things are addressed immediately.
Good start

The care of my uncle has been wonderful. I live in Australia and have entrusted the lawns with his care and I can not fault them at all. I hope to return to the UK later this year and can't wait to extend my thanks for all they do in person. My uncle is very happy in their care.

My mother is very happy and settled at The Lawns. She has frequently told me how friendly and caring the staff are towards her, and I always get a warm welcome myself when I visit her. The staff are all very patient with the residents, some of whom must be quite demanding. I am very glad that all the
worries and concerns she had a few years ago, have now disappeared, because there is always someone present to re-assure her thst everything is fine.

My Dad was with The Lawns Care Home for almost 2 years before passing away aged 93 this January
He thoughly enjoyed his time there and couldn't fault anything
Personly I totally agree
All the staff from management to the tea lady couldn't have looked after him any better
He loved breakfast best
eating a full one nearly every day and it was always the first topic when visiting
Apart from his final 2 weeks he was always able to get about himself and the respect shown then was Faultless
A big Thank You to everyone at The Lawns
I will will think of you all for rest of my life

From the moment I stepped into this care home last April with my Brother-in-law needing help as he was very confused we were treated with a very warm welcome and help. Despite it being just after teatime nothing was a problem for the staff on duty and the room allocated was very clean and well presented
despite our arrival being at short notice,
The Manager and staff have been a massive help over the last months and my B-in-law is enjoying being there. He is able to Join in with activities when he feels like it which are wide ranging with different themed events throughout the year where he can have a singalong if he wishes. If you don't want to there are quiet areas to sit and relax or just stay in your own room if you wish. Little trips out are organised for the more able bodied.
Nothing is too much trouble for the Manager and staff and my B-in-law is now a permanent resident, I have seen a massive improvement in his well being despite his illness, Well done all

I made an appointment to look around the care home with my parents, with a view to my mum going in for a week's respite. While we were being shown around my dad asked if we could book mum in as he was really impressed with the manager, the atmosphere and how well presented the home was. We arranged
for mum to come the following week and dad felt confident enough in her being looked after that he booked a few days away. All of the family noticed how well settled and happy mum was and how kind the staff were with her. After the week of respite, we decided to extend mum's stay, with a view to her becoming a permanent resident.
Mum is well looked after, happy and relaxed. She has quite advanced dementia and her needs are met with understanding and kindness.

This home is excellent. My mam has improved greatly physically and mentally since coming here.
There are regular activities for residents to get involved in. These activities stimulate mind and spirit.
ALL staff from manager to cleaners are friendly, caring, respectful and ensure everyone is treated
with dignity.
Facilities for residents and their visitors are amazing.
Well behaved pets are allowed to visit and this has helped mam settle in greatly as she has always had pets.
When entering the care home it is like going home to a big family.
Security is good and safety is prime.
I feel reassured that mam is in The Lawns as I know she is getting the care that she needs including social, emotional and mental support that is often overlooked.

My mother has been a resident at The Lawns Care Home for 6 months and the care to date has been very good. The staff all know her by name and understand her condition - the care she receives is beyond anything I could provide. Mum seems content in herself and doesn't want for anything and has never
complained about a thing so she seems happy. On the occasions when I have needed to interact with senior carers about anything I have always been well-received and listened to and any issues have been dealt with satisfactorily.

For the last 5/6 years The Lawns has looked after my dear Mother with exceptional care. In September this year my dear Mother passed away and The Lawns were incredibly caring and sensitive throughout my Mothers's final days.
The carers spent almost all day every day right until the very end. At such
a sad time for our family everyone at The Lawns gave well over 100% care to my Mother. I can't even think of anything to complain about, I have the highest regard for all the carers and a special thanks goes to the manager who was a constant comfort. I will never forget what they did for my dear Mother right to the end, I can't thank them enough.

Our team always strives to give the best care possible, and it means the world to know that we can provide comfort and support when you needed it most. My mother has been at The Lawns for 3 years. Initially she didn't want to be there after losing her independence but as the months went on she came to call several of the staff her friends and every time I visit she says how nice they are to her, and believe me she will say if she's not happy! I couldn't
have taken as good care of my mam as the staff at The Lawns do, and it gives me peace of mind to know she is safe. My mam chooses not to take part in activities. I recommend The Lawns Care Home.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.460)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.460) out of 10 for The Lawns Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.460 for The Lawns Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (196 Excellents x 5) + (79 Goods x 4) + (29 Satisfactorys x 3) + (11 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 315 Ratings = 4.46
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Lawns Care Home is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have worked at the Lawns Care home since November 2020. I started my career in care as a care assistant and have worked up to my current position of Deputy Home Manager, I have gained NVQs 2 and 3 in care, safe handling of medications, moving and handling, team leadership, and first aider.

I live in Spennymoor with my husband. I have three children and three step-children. I am a proud grandma of nine grandchildren.

The thing I like most about working at The Lawns Care Home is I enjoy spending time with and ensuring my residents are safe, clean and tidy. I like knowing that I am helping them to enjoy their retirement years in a comfortable and homely environment as much as possible. I have worked at The Lawns Care home for coming up to a year and a half. In my previous position I worked for a training company which I was there for 7 years but really fancied a career change into something completely different. I took on the role of the home administrator and must say it’s the best thing I have ever done!

I have 18 year’s experience within Administration and a wealth of knowledge and experience across this area. I have gained Diploma Level 2 Business Administration, NCFE Level 2 certificates in Equality & Diversity, Care & Management of Diabetes, Safeguarding & Prevent.

I live near Bishop Auckland with my husband, son and a goldendoodle dog named Miley who is a massive part of our family.

Any spare time I have, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, watching TV/films, shopping and walking my dog.

The thing I love most about working at The Lawns is seeing the residents having fun, enjoying themselves and seeing the smiles on their faces which really does make it all worthwhile.

My name is Olivia and I have worked at The Lawns care home for 10 years. I love the happy friendly atmosphere here and all the staff and management work together as a team. I go home from work feeling happy that I have helped the residents during this horrible time that everyone is going through.
