My mother has been at The Lawns for 3 years. Initially she didn't want to be there after losing her independence but as the months went on she came to call several of the staff her friends and every time I visit she says how nice they are to her, and believe me she will say if she's not happy! I couldn't
have taken as good care of my mam as the staff at The Lawns do, and it gives me peace of mind to know she is safe. My mam chooses not to take part in activities. I recommend The Lawns Care Home.

As Mum aged and was affected by dementia both the management and staff were superb and made her final days much more bearable for both Mum and the family. Sadly Mum passed away on 1 September but throughout her time with you everything and every aspect of her care was excellent.
Reply from Jackie Brook, Care Relationships at The Lawns Care HomeThank you so much for your thoughtful and kind words during this difficult time. We are truly sorry for your loss, and it means a great deal to us that we were able to support both your mum and your family throughout her time at The Lawns. Our team is dedicated to providing the best care possible, and knowing that we could make her final days more comfortable brings us comfort as well. Please know that your heartfelt message will be shared with everyone here. Our thoughts are with you and your family.

When entering the care home to see my mother the care home staff and the nursing staff are always friendly and attentive. From what I have witnessed the care home staff show compassion, care/dignity to my mother when dealing with her needs. There are are few areas where attention to detail could be
improved, these are;
1). Making regular checks on my mother to change her more frequently regarding incontinence issues.
2). A number of times whilst visiting I have noticed prolonged exposure to room alarms going off and responses to these alarms has been infrequent.
3). Staffing levels/having available staff could improve the above.
4). Personal clothing. Many times I have purchased clothes for my mother and these tend to get mislaid after they have been worn only once. I have noticed my mother wearing different clothes which do not belong to her. When looking for her clothes I have noticed they are not in her room. The laundry process could be enhanced as name tags are in place.
Reply from Jackie Brook, Care Relationships at The Lawns Care HomeThank you for your feedback and for highlighting the compassion and care you've witnessed for your mother at The Lawns. We truly appreciate your observations, as they help us to improve. We take your concerns seriously, and we will address the issues you've mentioned regarding incontinence care, alarm responses, staffing levels, and the laundry process to ensure these areas receive the attention they need. Please feel free to reach out to us directly if you'd like to discuss these further. Your input is invaluable in helping us provide the best care possible.

My Aunt says she is spoilt and looked after and that she is very lucky. The staff engage well with her and she loves to hear about their families and what they're up to. She is encouraged to join in activities and enjoys having her hair done When unwell, staff are quick to arrange for the Matron to
assess or NHS111. The cleaners are on the go all the time keeping everywhere clean and fresh. The boarded-up doors look unsightly which is a shame on the EMI unit and the doorstop on room door does its own thing which is frustrating when my Aunt wants her door open and it keeps shutting randomly. Overall I am very happy that she feels loved and settled especially as she is currently unwell. She does, however, miss being able to make herself a coffee or hot chocolate especially when I visit and the coffee machine downstairs isn't always working and there's not one upstairs. Staff, however, will make one for us both.
Reply from Jackie Brook, Care Relationships at The Lawns Care HomeThank you so much for your lovely feedback about your aunt's experience at The Lawns. We're thrilled to hear that she feels so well cared for and enjoys her time with the staff and activities. We also appreciate your comments regarding the EMI unit doors and the doorstop - we will certainly look into addressing these concerns. We're also sorry to hear about the coffee machine issue and will work on ensuring it's consistently available. It's great to know the staff are happy to help, and we're committed to making things even better for your aunt. Thank you again!

I visit my uncle regularly, my family are all happy and know he is very settled at The Lawns Care Home. It has a very welcoming feeling when walking in. The residents are all chatty and appear happy. When walking in, it always seems very busy with activities going on! My family enjoys the Thursday afternoon
mens group. He is difficult to please but looks forward to this. Also, regular entertainment in the home for special occasions.

The rooms are tailor-made for the residents who live here - with en suite toilet and washing facilities. My husband is always clean and well-presented, as is his room and bed linen. He has the services of a barber, chiropodist and nurses with experience. The food is cooked in-house and looks good enough
to eat. The staff I cannot praise highly enough, always cheerful and caring and doing their utmost to care for people in often difficult circumstances. Well done.
Reply from Jackie Brook, Care Relationships at The Lawns Care HomeThank you so much for your wonderful review of The Lawns Care Home. My husband and I have resided at the home for the last seven months during our stay we have been very happy. The place is clean, tidy and well organised. Meals are good and a happy atmosphere exists between staff and residents and it is not regimental, more like home and staff encourage the residents
to participate in activities which we enjoy.

I am a daughter of a resident who was placed here after his fall and I live in Leeds, plus my husband had a major operation so I couldn't get back to Darlington to look after my dad. So placed him on respite. He has come on leaps, much healthier, better and safe, and he's getting on well with joining
in with activities, things which he's enjoying. They have done him a world of good and mixing with others. He's eating lots better and gets on with staff too.
Reply from Jackie Brook, Care Relationships at The Lawns Care HomeThank you for sharing your experience with us. We are delighted to hear that your father is thriving in our care, especially after the challenges he faced following his fall. It's heartening to know that he is enjoying the activities and that his health and well-being have improved significantly. We appreciate your trust in us during such a crucial time for your family. Please let us know if there is anything more we can do for your father or your family. We look forward to continuing to provide him with the best possible care.

The overall care of my mum is usually excellent. When I have raised issues these have been dealt with by a senior member of the care team or management. The regular care staff take time to get to know about my mum, her likes, dislikes, family etc. This has broken down a little recently as there appears
to be agency staff due to staff illness. One particular senior member of the care team has been a great support to me since the beginning, and especially recently. The management and administration are always accessible and appointments are easily made and welcomed for longer chats.
Reply from Paul Millar, Marketing Manager at The Lawns Care HomeMany thanks for taking the time to review our home. It is a pleasure to care for your mum. All feedback is welcomed as it allows us to continually develop our service. During his 6 week short break stay in the EMI unit following hospitalisation my husband improved beyond hope. Staff encouraged him to regain mobility and independence as kindly as possible given his difficult behaviour with excellent results. The home is being constantly improved by enthusiastic and
professional management whilst some staff went the unexpected and very timely extra mile to provide resources and care for which we were very grateful. There are activities, a craft room, a sensory room, a hair salon and a lovely garden lounge with an outlook to a small garden. Security and cleanliness are good and overall a good experience at a difficult time.
Reply from Sharon Dalglish, Home Manager at The Lawns Care HomeWe're truly delighted to hear about the positive progress and care received during your husband's stay with us. Our dedicated staff are committed to providing the highest standard of care, and it's incredibly rewarding to know that your husband's experience exceeded expectations. We're thrilled that he was able to improve, regain mobility, and maintain independence, all with the support and encouragement of our fantastic team.

We continuously strive to enhance our facilities and provide the best resources, ensuring a comfortable and engaging environment for all our residents. It's fantastic to hear that our craft room, sensory area, hair salon, and garden lounge added to the positive experience.

Your kind words mean the world to us, and we're so grateful for your feedback. Thank you for sharing your experience, and please know that we're always here to provide exceptional care and support whenever needed.

My dad has been a resident for over a year now and I cannot express how grateful I am to them. Dad did not want to leave his home and enter residential care, but they have been fantastic with him. He has gone from staying in bed all day at his previous home to spending time in the lounge and even attending
Men’s Club.

They have encouraged him to eat well and he has lost a huge amount of weight, meaning he is now able to be more mobile. He has been wheelchair-bound for 15+ years, and thanks to the encouragement and persistence of staff, I saw him walk (aided with a Zimmer frame) for the first time in probably 10 years.

It’s heartbreaking having to make the decision to move a parent into residential care, but I know he is in safe hands here and it has made the whole process so much easier.

A huge thank you to all of The Lawns staff

I have visited within EMI unit on 3 occasions this morning during which time my family member has improved both physically and mentally due to mostly the care of staff and management. Due to the necessary level of security required for an EMI unit and the high level of need for those residents, the
atmosphere can be daunting whereas in other areas it is always warm and welcoming. The staff are all friendly, approachable, helpful and kind. Management is excellent and is obviously working hard to do their best for all residents to support their families.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.446)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.446) out of 10 for The Lawns Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.446 for The Lawns Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (198 Excellents x 5) + (88 Goods x 4) + (30 Satisfactorys x 3) + (11 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 327 Ratings = 4.446
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Lawns Care Home is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have worked at The Lawns Care home for coming up to a year and a half. In my previous position I worked for a training company which I was there for 7 years but really fancied a career change into something completely different. I took on the role of the home administrator and must say it’s the best thing I have ever done!

I have 18 year’s experience within Administration and a wealth of knowledge and experience across this area. I have gained Diploma Level 2 Business Administration, NCFE Level 2 certificates in Equality & Diversity, Care & Management of Diabetes, Safeguarding & Prevent.

I live near Bishop Auckland with my husband, son and a goldendoodle dog named Miley who is a massive part of our family.

Any spare time I have, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, watching TV/films, shopping and walking my dog.

The thing I love most about working at The Lawns is seeing the residents having fun, enjoying themselves and seeing the smiles on their faces which really does make it all worthwhile.
