Staff are very helpful, but many do not seem happy with some recent changes. The new seats do not seem suitable for elderly residents, no backs to lean on. It is good that the home is being redecorated etc but need to think more about the suitability of furniture.

What a wonderful place to call home. I am really happy my friend has settled in so well at Summerhill. It is the most friendliest home I have ever visited and so spotlessly clean and all the staff are so dedicated and nothing is too much bother for them. Not forgetting the kitchen staff providing delicious
meals every day.

My dad has been a resident at Summerhill for just over a year. He has been extremely well looked after during that time, taking away the worry I had when he was living on this own. He loves the food and has a comfortable room. The home is very clean and maintained to a high standard. I believe the
high staff ratio and quality of staff employed are what makes Summerhill exceptional. The kindness shown to him and care of all his needs are paramount. There is also a good range of activities ongoing and he especially likes his weekly outings on the bus trips.

My father lived in Summerhill for two and a half years. I will never be able to thank them enough for the kindness and professionalism they showed whilst looking after my Dad. In caring for him and keeping him safe, they never lost sight of the fact Summerhill was his home. Summerhill provided daily
activities and entertainment which he loved and kept his mind active. I cannot sing their praises highly enough.

The care, dignity and respect that my late grandmother received whilst being admitted in November until she passed earlier this month was outstanding. She was so happy with the way she was treated and felt like she was at home.
The compassion shown to us when she passed was second to none.
A great
care home with brilliant staff.
I work in care myself and it would be an honour to work in such a well run home.

The staff are always friendly, caring, polite and helpful. On occasion, the food is not quite hot enough, often at breakfast when it's served in the room. The drinking jugs and cups are too heavy when full. A lighter (non-plastic) vessel would be helpful. This care home really tried to do as much to
ensure the resident is made comfortable and personalise their room.

My husband has been a resident in Summerhill for just over a year now and is settled and happy. I have found all aspects of the home at a very high standard. All the staff works as a team given professional care whilst ensuring all residents are treated with dignity, compassion and consideration ensuring
all their needs are met whilst at the same time creating a very homely atmosphere. Communication between staff and relatives is excellent, relatives being informed immediately of any problems or difficulties arising.

My mother-in-law was the resident, and she was cared for with the utmost kindness. Nothing was too much trouble. All of the staff, from the manager to the most junior care assistant, make a point of knowing each resident likes and dislikes and endeavour to give them individual attention, 24/7.
This
particular care home really goes the extra mile to ensure each residents personal needs are catered for and additionally, it caters for group entertainment and activities as well as regular outings for those that are able.
I would be very happy to become a resident myself, in due course.

We moved my 97 year old relative from another home to Summerhill as my relative and our family members agreed that Summerhill had a better feel to it. My relative is happy in Summerhill, although gets a bit annoyed about the elderly men in wheelchairs, who slow down everything!! Family and friends are
impressed with the friendliness and dignity shown by the staff. Contact from Summerhill is excellent; regular telephone calls keep me up to date and if any issues arise. My relative is impressed with the food choices. Regular medical check-ups are actioned. Visiting is really flexible, which makes it easy for everyone. My relative took the opportunity to move rooms, when offered; a very flexible positive approach by the excellent Summerhill manager. My relative understandably took a while to adapt to residential home life having lived alone and it is a compliment to the management/staff of Summerhill that my relative is content and relaxed about her continuing situation.

Our mother has been a Summerhill resident for 3 years and, although recently struggling with her health, she has enjoyed a happy time in a lovely environment with the very professional, caring and considerate staff. She settled quickly and loved the entertainment, especially the minibus trips and, of
course, the parties!! She enjoyed the companionship of other residents and the excellent accommodation. Now confined to bed, she is still given full attention to all her needs and is never alone for long. We cannot thank, nor praise, more highly each and every member of the Summerhill team.

I cannot praise Summerhill enough for every aspect of care my mum received. It should be a flagship for all care homes! The manager and her team are the absolute best and they go all out for every resident in their care. My mum loved being there. The home is friendly, clean and has a lovely atmosphere.
The staff were always available if I needed to talk giving guidance and advice when needed. This home is 5 star.

My mum is currently in Summerhill care home with dementia. Her memory is almost non-existent now. The staff are amazing and show a great understanding of her needs. The manager is proactive and respected by her staff. The care my mum receives is very holistic and all her needs are met. She is treated
with dignity and respect. The cleanliness is excellent. When visiting, staff morale is always good and the staff work together as a team. The activities and entertainment is very much enjoyed by mum. The overall care is excellent.

Mum has been a resident in Summerhill care since mid-July 2017. From day one she has been treated as a member of a large family as have myself, brothers and sister. Mum enjoys the activities especially trips out in the country up to three weekly in summer.
At 96 years old she is encouraged to do most
things she is a little frail and forgetful but most of al very happy and content.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.675)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.675) out of 10 for Summerhill is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.875 for Summerhill is calculated as follows: ( (86 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.875
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Summerhill is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 29 registered maximum number of service users is 5.8, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
