This is my husband's second stay at Oaklands for two weeks Respite Care.
On arrival this time he was greeted back by friendly and welcoming staff. The facilities are very good and the care he receives is personal and attentive. Big thank you to staff for spotting early signs of possible infection
and dealing with it promptly.
He was included in the regular activities created for residents so didn't have to feel left out or isolated. He thoroughly enjoys the food which is always freshly prepared and adapted to personal requirements.
I would recommend Oaklands for anyone seeking good quality respite care.
Reply from Beti Koder, Manager at Oaklands Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback. We are delighted to hear that your husband felt welcomed on his return and that our team provided attentive care throughout his stay.

Exemplary care given to my Dad as he neared the end of life. The staff were compassionate, caring and sensitive, aware of his wishes and respecting his needs. Medication is given on time and they are flexible and ammenable to his dietry needs.

My poor old mum has Alzheimer and is not aware of the comings and goings of anyone. The carers at Oaklands are so caring and patient, they are so kind and look after mum's personal needs so well. My mum always looks clean and smells nice, when we go.
The home, in general, always looks clean and well
cared for, just like the residents.
When mum was more aware of things, she enjoyed the daily activities. There is a lot going on.
Thankyou so much to all the staff at Oaklands, which make it a really calm and enjoyable place to be.

Mum has lived in the Hallamshire Care Home for almost two years now. I cannot speak highly enough regarding the care and support mum and the family have received during that time. The quality of care is exceptional and every member of staff contributes to the positive and friendly environment. The
rooms are modern and clean, the food is good and residents are kept stimulated by a range of daily activities. Dad was also in the Hallamshire Care Home until he passed away recently; during that time it was a great comfort to know that he was surrounded by people who treated him with dignity, kindness, and genuine warmth.

My wife has now been in the Hallamshire Care Home for 1 year, but I can now reflect back and see that this was the best thing I could do for my wife's care and wellbeing. It was the worst decision I have ever had to make in placing her into care, but I have to say not only have they given my wife fantastic
care, compassion and love, they have helped me so much, they are now like my second family. Not only is it run very professionally, but nothing is too much trouble for them, which is a true reflection of the top quality management and staff who are employed. I can see from my wife's reactions that she too loves the staff, the food and the numerous activities and the carers have got to know what she likes and doesn't like and subsequently cater for her every needs. I put my wife before anything else and so do they, which helps me through these difficult times, thanks to the Hallamshire Care Home.

she ate very little. Care home and her room are spotless and dining room is welcoming. Very happy as she is with Orchar.

Woodbine Manor

from Jennifer H (Daughter of Resident) published on 28 May 2026

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Dad became a resident of Woodbine Manor in August 2025 with advanced Alzheimer's. My mother was his dedicated carer at home for as long as possible, but the toll on her own wellbeing was significant, even if she couldn't see it at the time. She was initially reluctant for Dad to go into care, choosing
respite at first. He settled so quickly and comfortably that it spoke volumes about the level of care provided, and Mum made the decision for him to stay permanently. Knowing he is safe and well looked after has given her genuine peace of mind. Being local, she pops in every other day - she hasn't lost him, just found a new rhythm. The change in her is wonderful to see. She looks better, is reconnecting with old friends, and has reclaimed a quality of life that had slowly slipped away. Thank you, Woodbine Manor.
Reply from Dani Bilidaite, Registered Manager at Woodbine ManorThank you so much for your kind words. It really means a lot to all of us at Woodbine Manor Care Home.
It has been a privilege to care for your Dad and to support your Mum through what we know was such a difficult decision. Seeing him settle in so comfortably and watching your Mum regain some balance, peace of mind, and quality of life is exactly why we do what we do.
We're so pleased that she still feels able to be such a big part of his life and visit so often - as you beautifully said, it's just a new rhythm. Thank you again for placing your trust in us and for taking the time to share this lovely feedback with the team.

My Mother in law needed respite care after having a fall at home after being discharged from hospital. We looked around a few local care homes and was impressed with Dryclough. My MIL settled in fairly quickly and made a few friends which she would be sitting and chatting with on all my visits which
was so nice to see, as she was starting to isolate herself. The staff are lovely, nothing is to much trouble and really supported my MIL in getting back on her feet and helping bring her confidence back. My MIL is now back at home, but already planning her next stay when we go on holiday in a few months.

An elderly relative experienced a couple of weeks of illness, leaving her unable to look after herself at home.

At very short-notice, we were able to secure her a room at The Orchar for a period of respite while we arranged care at home.

From the moment she arrived, the staff could not have been

kinder nor more attentive. The staff gently encouraged her with her nutrition, exercise and engagement with the other residents. As a result, she very quickly began to feel like her old self again.

She thoroughly enjoyed the food, the attractive communal areas and the privacy of her spacious room.
With care at home arranged, she was able to leave after 3 weeks, having made many new friends and some special memories. She has been back to visit and was given another warm welcome.

I would definitely recommend The Orchar, for the quality of the care provided and the peace of mind it gave us as a family.

Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
It is reassuring to know that my dad is safe and his physical and emotional needs are being met. Delighted with the client centered approach, staff take time to know my dad's preferences and engage him in appropriate activities. Very pleased with range of meals served and snacks during the day. Special
thanks to the activity coordinator team.
