My friend & her husband have been taken care fo for over a year at this care home. We have found their care excellen & the staff brilliant, kind & caring. The only downside is the size of the rooms which are sadly extremely small, meaning that lots of their precious items could not be taken in with
them. It is a pity too that no double rooms are available. However, overall they have been well looked after by a loving staff.
Reply from Jan Makin, Manager at Charlton Kings Care HomeThank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback.
We are delighted to hear that your friend and her husband have been so well cared for over the past year, and that you have found our team to be brilliant, kind and caring. Providing compassionate, attentive care is central to everything we do, and your kind words will be shared with the staff.
We also appreciate your comments regarding room sizes and accommodation. While we do have double rooms within the home, these are currently occupied. In some cases, we find it is more appropriate and beneficial for couples to have single rooms next door or opposite to one another, allowing both privacy and individual care needs to be met, while still remaining close together. We always aim to consider what will best support each person's comfort, dignity and wellbeing.
Thank you again for your thoughtful review and for recognising the dedication and warmth of our team. We are grateful for your trust and support.

Care homes are by their nature difficult places yet Charlton Kings Care Home is truly wonderful in the atmosphere and culture that they foster. I've never been met with anything other than a smile and a willing attitude to go the extra mile, and the events that they lay on for residents and their families
show that there is a genuine commitment and desire to make the experience as positive as possible. It is professionally run and super friendly, and I know mum could not be better looked after than she is here. Further, the communication is first class giving me peace of mind that, despite the challenging situation she is in, she is good hands. Thank you to all.

Mum moved to Charlton Kings Care Home a few months ago and we have been very impressed with the care and support the home has provided. Mum has settled in very well and whenever we visit she appears relaxed and happy in the very positive atmosphere. There always appears to be plenty of activities -
the Christmas party was a great success and I know Mum enjoys her trips out from the home. The Management is very professional and have contacted us directly when they have had questions on medication etc. The family are very content with the care provided to my Mother. Thank you.

My parents are both at Charlton Kings Care Home and they have been there since October 2020. Both have dementia and Dad has become bedbound over the period. I have been hugely impressed by the quality of the care at Charlton Kings Care Home. They really do go above and beyond. One example is sourcing
a special chair for Dad so that he can be moved out of bed, and helping Mum to stay mobile. The facilities are very good - the rooms for the individuals, the main reception room, dining room and conservatory are all welcoming places, always clean and well decorated to mark the various festivals throughout the year, but it's the quality of the staff that really shines through. They genuinely care about the residents and look after them with kindness and friendliness. I've been invited to stay for lunch on several occasions when I have visited, so I know from first hand experience that the food is tasty and freshly made. I am so glad we chose this care home for Mum and Dad.
Reply from Jan Makin, Manager at Charlton Kings Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and generous review. It means a great deal to hear how well supported your mum and dad are, and that the care, environment and little details have made a positive difference for them both. Our team truly care about every resident, so your kind words about their compassion and commitment will be very encouraging for all of us. We're so pleased you feel confident in your choice and always enjoy welcoming you into our home. Warmest thanks from us all at Charlton Kings Care Home!

My mum has been at Charlton Kings Care home since October of last year. We delayed finding a home for mum for as long as possible, she had carers visit her at home for several years but I wish we had chosen the care home sooner, mum has thrived there and her dementia doesn't seem as bad as it had been.
She is very happy there and since she arrived has never looked back or asked when she was going home. The staff are all wonderful and the other residents are lovely too. There is always some activity going on which I enjoy joining in with. The home is warm, very clean, smells amazing and the Christmas decorations were fantastic. Such a warm happy home environment. Thank you Jan, Daisy and team

I cannot praise highly enough the love and care that my parents have both received at Charlton Kings Care Home over the past three years. The staff are all exceptional, and devote themselves to looking after all the residents, giving them dignity and honour, and making sure that they are comfortable,
happy and safe. As family members we were also welcomed into the wider CKCH family - it really felt like home to us, and we are so grateful for all the support and care that we have received as well.

Mum has recently moved into Charlton Kings Care Home having moved from Dorset to be near relatives in Cheltenham. The move has been made much easier by the staff team especially Jan, Daisey and Caron. All care & domestic staff have shown empathy and kindness to Mum and ourselves. Mum has been able to
bring a number of personal items including furniture, photographs and her important plants! We were very pleased that care was taken to decorate and furnish her room as she wanted in advance. Overall we feel the home provides the 'vibe' we want for Mum.

I was recommend Charlton Kings Care home by a friend and what a lucky strike it has been! My mum has been at Charlton Kings Care Home for just a month and already knows all the staff by name and what they do because they go out of their way to chat to her and are very kind and caring and treat her so
nicely.
She loves the food and all the daily activities. When I visit she tells me everything that has happened, it's really good to see her smiley and relaxed.
I now feel able to relax myself knowing that she is safe and being looked after.
And I must just add, everything is so clean!!! Thank you.

I feel so lucky that we found Charlton Kings Care Home over a year ago. All the residents are treated with respect, kindness, patience and dignity, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. The job of the carers is very far from easy, yet they are cheerful, efficient and extremely competent and
the atmosphere is very pleasant. There are frequent activities and events that include families, which is very special for loved ones. We've attended summer barbecues, bonfire/fireworks nights, themed parties, singalongs. And often when I'm visiting, I witness games, quizzes, visiting animals, musical performances, bird displays etc. I'm also well informed of how mum is getting on. On one occasion, mum needed a hospital visit and I was overseas.... a member of staff accompanied mum to the hospital and spent all night there with her. I cannot even express what that meant to me that mum wasn't alone for that experience. The staff at this Care Home deserve medals

Our staff work hard to make the home a kind, comfortable and positive place to live, so your comments about their care and kindness are truly appreciated. We're especially touched by what you said about your mum's hospital visit - staying by her side was the least we could do.
It's also wonderful to know you enjoy the activities and events we put on for residents and families.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. Your kind words really do lift the team.

My mother has now lived in her new home at Charlton Kings for 5 months. From the outset I have been in awe of the care and commitment from all the staff. Before mum moved a senior staff member video called her to chat, reassure and allow her to ask questions, mum lived some distance away and I needed
to be with her, the staff member did this on her day off. Her move into CK was smooth, entirely due to the kindness, thoughtfulness and friendliness of every member of staff. I visit frequently and every time I witness an interaction between staff and residents that seems to be beyond the basics of care. I feel the residents are genuinely loved, respected, liked and their needs, however complex are always the priority. I feel very lucky that we were able to find such a compassionate and caring home for my mum where all her basic care needs are considerately met with dignity by such thoughtful and kind carers. My mum talks to me about how lovely, kind and supportive she finds all the staff.

I wanted to leave a review of this wonderful care home as I have been so impressed. The staff are second to none and are highly attentive, welcoming and always have a smile on their faces. They know your names and always offering drinks and even food. They became like a second family! The care my grandad
received was of the highest quality. Although he did pass away recently; the last few weeks were very comfortable for him and this was made possible by the staff. The senior members of the team stayed late on many occasions when we had the need for ambulances to come out and really cared for my grandfather and his health. I will miss going in each day and seeing all the wonderful people at the home. The manager really should be proud of the team she has as they are fantastic people and a credit to the care home. The carehome was always clean and tidy and has wonderful facilities and gardens. I really want to thank you all for the care and friendship you gave to my grandad.

Mum was resident from August 2023 until March 2025. During this time Mum had excellent care from a regular team of smiling staff with endless patience and understanding of those living with dementia. The home is homely and welcoming, all staff knew Mum's needs and interests and knew visiting family
members by name. Activities are varied, relevant and interesting, and included trips out with others in the local community and to events; far beyond my expectations. Care is tailored to individuals and purposeful. I have no hesitation in recommending Charlton Kings Care Home.

The staff at Charlton Kings Care Home are truly amazing - I have always called them mum's angels without wings! My mum went into the care home in April 2022 and sadly passed away in December 2024. She had dementia and was so incredibly well looked after by all the staff who were cheerful, smiling, kind,
considerate and thoughtful. They treated mum with huge respect and with great affection, she loved them, and as dementia began to further take control of her, the staff helped us to navigate her final years as we witnessed her struggle with loss of memories and independence as heartbreaking as it was humbling. While the experience of dementia tested our strength as a family, it also deepened our bond, supported by the manager and the wonderful team at the care home. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and whilst our mum is now at peace, free from the struggles of this world, Charlton Kings Care Home and their excellent team will remain forever in our hearts.

Dementia can be such a challenging and emotional path, and we admire the strength, love, and dedication you and your family showed throughout. We are honoured to have been able to support you all through this time, and we hope that the memories of your mum's warmth and amazing spirit bring you comfort. Choosing Charlton Kings Care Home, led by the Manager and supported by an excellent team, was one of the best decisions we made for my mother-in-law's wellbeing.
The staff at the care home are warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. They treated her with dignity and respect, which was so important
as her Dementia worsened
The staff not only provided expert care for her physical needs but also made sure she felt comfortable and safe.
Their understanding of dementia and the challenges it brings was evident in everything they did but what stood out the most was the emotional support we received as a family.
In the final months of her life, we were grateful for the kindness, patience, and empathy the staff showed not only to her but to all of us.
If you're looking for a place where your loved ones will receive exceptional care and kindness during their most vulnerable moments, I highly recommend Charlton Kings Care Home.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I told someone Dad was spending a week at Charlton Kings Care Home, whilst we were on holiday, and they said I'd made the best choice.
There is no doubt this was correct and I have not seen a happier home. The staff's training must be excellent as they are all cheerful and thoroughly pleasant. Nothing
was too much trouble and I felt they cared for Dad. I've already put my name down for the future.
Reply from Jan Makin, Manager at Charlton Kings Care HomeThank you for a lovely review. Your positive experience speaks volumes about the quality of care and the dedication of the staff and it's great to hear how happy your Father was here. The fact that you're considering it for your own future care is the highest compliment you could give. It must give you real peace of mind knowing that CKCH is a home where your dad was not just looked after, but truly cared for.

Whenever I visit Charlton Kings Care Home I am greeted by the most delicious smell of lunch cooking as well as by friendly, welcoming staff. The common areas and clients' rooms are clean and well looked after. The staff at all levels are helpful, chatty and kind. All in all, a great place to visit.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.834) out of 10 for Charlton Kings Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.884 for Charlton Kings Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (193 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 215 Ratings = 4.884
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Charlton Kings Care Home is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
