We placed my Dad at Hallamshire for some temporary respite care in July. The team were extremely helpful and kind arranging the placement at short notice. They demonstrated a great understanding of Dads care needs and the carers went above and beyond to help him settle in quickly. The home was spotlessly clean and the food was excellent. Family and friends visiting Dad were always made very welcome: the gardens were a beautiful, tranquil space to spend some precious time with Dad.

HI, will you please pass this round to all the staff who were involved with organising the Summer Fair. Firstly a massive thanks to the girls in the kitchen. OOH the brownies were delicious and the BBQ and salads were perfect. I know a lot of prep time was needed to cater for all those people and you did a superb job! BIg shout out to those who organised the raffles and games. What a shame that Chelsea didn't manage to get Peter in the paddling pool! The magician and the singer both did a great job entertaining us all. Last but not least a huge thanks to Alan. The garden and pots look stunning, a big task in this hot weather. As always the afternoon was. GREAT SUCCESS.

Please pass this on to the owners of HCH, they need to know what an amazing team they have and how much we appreciate all their hard work. Love to you all from S and D and all our family.

Mum has been living at the Hallamshire Care Home for just over a year. From day one she was made to feel welcome by all of the staff. She has settled in well and is definitely well looked after, enjoying home cooked food, and treats such as ice cream in the hot weather and popcorn on movie night. Mum regularly participates in the daily activities, which range from memory games, to craft sessions, to gentle exercise. She has been on various outings, and her most memorable trip was to a reindeer farm which she still mentions now. There are regular activities which visitors can join in with, such as afternoon tea, and cheese and wine evenings. These are such a lovely way to make memories together as a family.

The staff are brilliant, and we are more than happy with the care that Mum receives from them all.

My mother is 90 with worsening dementia and has been living at the Hallamshire for over a year. I could not have chosen a better home for my mother. The home and facilities are fantastic. Most importantly the managers and staff are brilliant at what they do, helpful, friendly, diligent and supportive of my mother's needs. I can't fault their service.

Mum has been at the home for almost two months & on the whole the experience has been positive. It is a huge decision to place a parent into care but the staff have welcomed her & do their best to make her feel safe. Mum can have challenging moods but I'm always kept informed of her behaviours and discuss best solutions. The staff are friendly & approachable & have a daily activity programme to keep residents stimulated.

Having my parent at this care home has been one of the most stressful experiences of my life. There are many issues I have, too many to detail here, but in general it was hard work having to manage individual needs or requirements which I thought should be taken care of by the home. Additionally, the care logs were inconsistent and contradictory and fee increases were high (more than double CPI), without fair or ethical justification.

The staff on the ground were friendly, and caring, but the management were abrasive and in my parent's case, working to an agenda that did not align with the best interests of residents.

Overall Experience

My partner was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2022 and moved to the Hallamshire in November 2025. It had become impossible for family and carers to provide the consistent and safe care that was needed at home. On visiting the Hallamshire we immediately knew that it would provide the sort of welcoming, professional and caring atmosphere we were looking for. The home is very well managed and maintained; the rooms are pleasant, spotlessly clean and comfortable; the meals are cooked on site and are varied and nourishing. But it is the quality of care, above all, which sets the Hallamshire apart from other homes we saw. The staff are all absolutely brilliant. Nothing is too much trouble for residents and visitors alike. The care is compassionate, professional, patient, warm and consistent. Unlike some homes the residents are not segregated by severity of symptoms and the wide range of activities is inclusive and stimulating. Overall the service provided is absolutely superb.

Mum has lived in the Hallamshire Care Home for almost two years now. I cannot speak highly enough regarding the care and support mum and the family have received during that time. The quality of care is exceptional and every member of staff contributes to the positive and friendly environment. The rooms are modern and clean, the food is good and residents are kept stimulated by a range of daily activities. Dad was also in the Hallamshire Care Home until he passed away recently; during that time it was a great comfort to know that he was surrounded by people who treated him with dignity, kindness, and genuine warmth.

My wife has now been in the Hallamshire Care Home for 1 year, but I can now reflect back and see that this was the best thing I could do for my wife's care and wellbeing. It was the worst decision I have ever had to make in placing her into care, but I have to say not only have they given my wife fantastic care, compassion and love, they have helped me so much, they are now like my second family. Not only is it run very professionally, but nothing is too much trouble for them, which is a true reflection of the top quality management and staff who are employed. I can see from my wife's reactions that she too loves the staff, the food and the numerous activities and the carers have got to know what she likes and doesn't like and subsequently cater for her every needs. I put my wife before anything else and so do they, which helps me through these difficult times, thanks to the Hallamshire Care Home.

I am really happy with the care that my mother receives from all the staff at the Hallamshire Care Home.
They keep me informed of any changes to my mother's health and any visits she has with the doctor and the outcome of those visits.
All the staff treat her with the care and respect that I would expect and engage her in the many activities that the home provides on a daily visit.

It is a very friendly and homely environment and I am made to feel very welcome on every visit.

Our Dad had dementia. Despite full daily and nightly home support, he became increasingly fearful and confused. Heartbreakingly, he often saw me, not as his daughter, but as an intruder trying to con him.
And then he moved into Hallamshire Care Home.
What a profound, positive change.
Over the next 4 years we enjoyed numerous fun outings and activities that we would never have dreamed possible. Together as father and daughter again.
Hallamshire's culture is one of true care and support - for residents and for friends and family. That natural ability to respect and gain trust and rapport is rife - not just amongst the care staff, but all staff.
A spell in hospital saw Dad spiral into fear and confusion again. The change back to his calm, smiling self when he got back 'home' was instantaneous and astounding; proving to us that the Hallamshire environment was absolutely the best medicine.

I cannot overstate my gratitude and high recommendation. Suffice to say, 'Can I pre-book a room?'

I can't speak highly enough of this care home. From the moment we walked in, it felt warm, welcoming, and genuinely caring. The staff are kind, patient, and attentive, and it's clear they truly care about the residents as individuals, not just as part of a routine.
Communication with families has been excellent, and we've always felt informed and reassured. The environment is clean, comfortable, and well maintained, with a calm and friendly atmosphere throughout. The activities on offer are thoughtful and help residents stay engaged and supported both socially and emotionally.

Most importantly, our loved one has been treated with dignity, respect, and compassion at all times. Knowing they are safe, well cared for, and happy has given our family real peace of mind. We're extremely grateful to the whole team and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this care home to others.

We took the tough decision as a family to put mum into a care home after living in her own home for 62 + years so a huge change for all concerned . We visited quite a few homes , but immediately felt this was the one for her . We were proved right from day one when she wandered into a party activity and immediately started dancing with one of the staff . After that she was downstairs everyday - all day joining in all kinds of activities - two daily including weekends . Her room was always spotless, as was the home itself. The staff were always very welcoming and communicative regarding her progress. It was a place where you felt you could stay as long as you wanted and didn't feel excluded or in the way. We attended a Christmas party which was great fun and mum made new memories including a trip to York Christmas market and an interaction with some insects / reptiles brought in for them to handle - something she'd never done before. Cannot praise the home highly enough - met our expectations.

I have visited my sister-in-law with my brother on several occasions and have always been impressed by the surroundings, the care and the overall quality of all services provided. I found her room clean, fresh and comfortable and also she was clean and tidy. I have attended with my brother a few times and been very impressed all round with the daily activities and refreshments provided and the care given to my sister-in-law as well as my brother in what has been a very difficult time for him.

Having had experience of other care homes this one far exceeds any other and I would recommend it to anyone of my family and friends.

Mum spent a little over 3 1/2 years at Hallamshire. She improved in body and mind, with company, care and the various activities stimulating her. The staff were always brilliant in offering care and support. There is very much a "family" feeling about the care home. Family members can come and go freely, and it was always nice to be greeted by familiar staff, too. The seemingly low staff turnover helps to maintain consistency of care.

My mum has recently moved into Hallamshire Care Home after living on her own with Alzheimer's disease for 2 to 3 years. Mum got to the stage in her illness where family support and Carer's helping out 4 times per day was no longer practical or safe, and her quality of life had deteriorated significantly. Unfortunately, we were at the point where the illness was winning and it wasn't going to be beaten.

Everyone at the care home has made mum and her visitors feel really welcome from the first day. I'm sure this is why she is so much less anxious and confused, and it's obvious that she also feels safe and comfortable.

Moving into this care home has improved mums quality of life so much. The illness won't go away, but the calm environment and great staff have made life so much easier for everyone involved in her care, despite the challenges she faces.

The service of the care home is as much as could want and the team are always willing to hold the hone for me to speak with my mother (as I live some distance from the care home). My lovely husband had Alzheimer's and by January 2024. It was clear that I could not continue to look after him well at home despite my best efforts. He suffered from anxiety and was displaying crazy, unpredictable behaviour. My daughter researched care homes in Sheffield as she could see we were both heading into unstable and scary waters.
We were so fortunate that the Hallamshire care home was able to offer him a place in late January 2024.
From day one of entering the home he relaxed as though the weight of the world had fallen from his shoulders. He really enjoyed being looked after by the staff who were unfailingly kind to him and the crazy behaviour he had been exhibiting disappeared completely.

We were able to enjoy many of the activities the home staff arranged. During the 13 months he was there until his death on 2 March, which was calm and peaceful he was treated with respect and kindness and humour!
