I had been looking after my mother for a number of years and I didn't think I could rely on others to look after her as well as myself but changed my mind very quickly after having to leave her at Garnant House due to a flooding accident at her home.
The staff actually look after her better than I
could and the feeling of knowing she is well cared for and safe is priceless.

This is a well run, caring home. It is very clean and welcoming whenever we visit. We are kept up to date with any problems relating to our relative who has been a resident for some time.

My mother, having been hospitalised for 12 weeks as a result of a fall and broken hip, together with a diagnosis of mixed dementia, we as a family, were desperate to see her leave the hospital and knew would need a place in a care home. Because of the lack of basic care in the hospital, my brother and
I were anxious to find the right place for her. This is not an easy decision to make, but having visited three in the are, we decided that Garnant House would best suit her needs. And how right we were, there is such a difference in my mother, the care and attention given to her is second to none. All the staff are to be highly commended.

I am more than satisfied with the care my mother gets at this care home.
She is always clean and tidy.
The care home itself is spotlessly clean.
The staff always friendly and welcoming.
The food is also very good.

Living so far away it is difficult to see my mother often.
However, I did a surprise visit in June.
It was lovely to see my mother so happy, her hair was combed, clothing was fresh and her room was very clean.
While there a carer came in and asked her if she would like tea or coffee and I too was
offered a drink.
The staff were lovely and very approachable and everybody there was engaged in an activity, including outings to the local pub.

The home and staff are all very welcoming and helpful on the telephone and when visiting.
The resident suffers from Dementia and has been aggressive in her manner but staff have a way to calm her down well.
She is always clean and tidy, has hair done and feet/toenails are checked regularly.
Food
is very appetising with a choice and nicely presented.
Coffee/tea served regularly.
The bedroom is adequate and when the resident is in bed is checked during the night.

I have volunteered at Garnant House on several occasions during events and open days. I find the staff are patient, polite and very approachable; nothing is too much work when it comes to their residents & visitors to the home! It's always very clean and homely at Garnant House giving off a relaxed
atmosphere for everyone that lives there & visits! I have come to know the residents personally and take warmth in knowing that they are each looked after superbly.

I have met with a few of the carers at the home and seen first hand how gentle and professional they are with the residents. There is a large effort to keep the residents engaged in activities that stimulate them mentally and physically as much as possible and volunteers are invited to help with these.
There is also an ongoing effort to keep the activities fresh and varied and bring new faces into the home.

The care home is within the centre of a Welsh village. The activities and the care reflect the Welshness of the way the residents have lived their entire life, making the care and the attendance from staff a 'home' where it has become an extension of the way that the elderly have lived all their lives.
A big thank you to all the staff for having empathy and love to care for these wonderful people.

As you will see from the marks below, I can not fault the facilities at Garnant House. Each staff member I have dealt with have been extremely professional whilst being very caring towards my grandmother, who has settled incredibly well, which is and should be accredited for their ongoing commitment
to their clients.
Thank you to all at Garnant House.

From what I/we have experienced on our regular visits the level of care is excellent. Staff are extremely welcoming. They are very hard working and treat all patients with huge amounts of patience. From what we have seen all staff give everything to all the residents in Garnant House. Activities all
very well organised and the activities officer encourages all residents to take part. An excellent care home.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.621)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.621) out of 10 for Garnant House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.921 for Garnant House is calculated as follows: ( (93 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 101 Ratings = 4.921
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Garnant House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 21 registered maximum number of service users is 4.2, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
