The Review Score of 5.6 (maximum of 10) for Ashton Park is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.
a) The Average Rating is 3.7 out of 5 from 3 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Ashton Park in Google's Search Results - more info
b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 1.9 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 2 years. (A 2 year period has been used as there were no positive reviews in the last 12 months)
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.
The Average Rating of 3.694 for Ashton Park is calculated as follows: ( (19 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 3.694
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.
1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.
If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.
The 1.903 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashton Park is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows:
3 + 0.25 = 3.25 then divided by 2 = 1.625
Target of 3.6 positive Reviews (18 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 2 Reviews ÷ 3.6 Target = 0.556 , then divided by 2 = 0.278
When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My mother-in-law is a resident in Ashton Park and has been there for a number of years. She suffers from dementia and needs care and attention day and night. The staff at Ashton Park are professional, efficient and compassionate. They cater for all my mother-in-law's many varied needs superbly in a very dignified, sympathetic and friendly manner. Ashton Park is a very welcoming and comforting care home and I would not hesitate in recommending it.

My mother has been a resident in Ashton Park for 3 years. As a result of her dementia she was unable to cope on her own and it was left to me to find a suitable care home. Ashton Park has proved to be the perfect choice from the very first day. The love and care shown to my mother by all the staff has been excellent. They include her in as many of the activities as is possible and have even taken her on a trip to Barry Island. We can visit at any time at all and have always been warmly welcomed and treated with respect. The manager and senior carers are very approachable and willing to listen to and address any concerns I or my family may have. Finally, the rest of my family say she could not be in a better home.

Review submitted from a Website Submission by Catrin F (Daughter of Resident) on Friday 22 January 2016. Relates to January 2016.
My stepdad was placed here for respite and fell down the stairs when unsupervised breaking his arm. As he has dementia I would have expected the stairs to be either monitored by staff or have a safeguard to make sure he couldn't wander into danger.
His room was basic and the call bell was difficult to identify as it looked like a light switch. I regret allowing him to stay here.
