Cwmbran House is a not-for-profit care home and one of the highest-rated care homes in Cwmbran, as reviewed by residents and their families.

Cwmbran House is a purpose-built single-storey care home for over 65s in Pontnewydd, Cwmbran. It has 56 bedrooms across three separate living areas, all alongside the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. The team focus on giving a great quality of life to people, whatever their abilities and needs are.

One wing is for specialist dementia care and the remaining two rooms are for the care of physically dependent older people. Two of the wings contain a lounge and dining area with a fully fitted kitchen and the other wing is comprised of 3 dining areas joined to individual rooms.

The team of specially trained colleagues provide tailored care to all of the residents, including those living with dementia.

Privacy of individuals is all important to the home, with the provision of locking doors and furniture. The majority of bedrooms are en-suite and some have adapted bathrooms.

Chefs provide a daily menu of tasty and nutritious meals. Special dietary requirements are taken into account.

"Your mum seems ten years younger, I can't remember seeing her so happy", my wife said last month and I couldn't agree more. Mum's been at Cwmbran House Care Home for three years and it's wonderful to see how much she enjoys life there. Above everything else, it's the sensational staff who make Cwmbran
House the caring, fun and happy environment that makes Mum feel like the queen (so she often says!).
And compassionate too - I will be eternally grateful that when things were most difficult during Covid and Dad was terribly ill, they went above and beyond to care for him too and ensure Mum and I could spend so much precious time with him.
It's always a worry finding somewhere you can trust that someone close will be happy and looked after with love, so Cwmbran House gets my highest recommendation. Excellent, modern facilities, lively, social activities, good company, good food and well run. But it's the staff who'll make you glad you made such a good choice. I can't thank them all enough.

My mother moved into Cwmbran House Care Home in November 2021 and we immediately knew this was going to be a lovely home for my mother to be in.
The staff are friendly, always professional and approachable and take great care of my mother.
Mam was hesitant at first about being in care but now realises
that it was for the best and says she feels safe and well looked after. The staff are wonderful and cannot do enough for her.
Mam has plenty of company and made new friends with other residents, her appetite, drinking and mobility have also improved.
Myself and my wife would like to say thank you to Cwmbran House and all it's staff for the wonderful care my mother is receiving and making her feel safe and happy.

Mum has been in Cwmbran House Care Home since March 2020, just before Covid lockdown. The last two years have been an extremely difficult and challenging time for everyone and I can’t thank the staff enough for their commitment, care, professionalism, understanding, flexibility, support and love during
this time. It continues to be extremely hard to accept that Mum is in a care home however, dementia is a horrible condition which requires specialist care. With the care and encouragement from all the staff and management, Mum has settled well and I can sleep at night knowing that she is safe, well cared for, loved and respected. As I always say every time I visit. Thank you to everyone.

This is a marvellous place. My father-in-law is having a wonderful time. He has met loads of new people and he loves the staff and the residents. He goes to choir and participates in everything on offer. Oh and he loves the food.

My mum has been in Cwmbran House since November 2021. During that time, the staff have had to deal with varying situations as she is 101. The systems put in place by the management are excellent, the relationship with the GP surgery and other medical bodies is embedded in their policy and as a family,
we are always informed. The care, the most important element, is absolutely wonderful, nothing is too much trouble and everyone from the care staff, kitchen staff, cleaners and the caretaker are involved with my mum and our family. It was hard to hand over Mum's care to anyone else, but Cwmbran House has been the perfect solution. She is our mum and very precious and we are so grateful to everyone for their love and support.

My grandmother (great) came here last October. The staff and carers are all wonderful. I do not worry about her at night anymore. The care she has received has been outstanding and my nanna is so happy here. Her room is always clean and tidy. Keep doing a wonderful job. Thank you for your compassion

Mum, 81, moved in October 2021 after prolonged spells in hospital during the Covid pandemic. It has been a very difficult period of adjustment for her which has been compounded due to Covid. The staff have done all they could to help her settle although at times there have been communication issues
between day and night staff over her care. Home appears clean and tidy. I cannot comment on the standard of the food as I have not seen any of it. Mum has said not much fruit available at mealtimes. The home has undergone some refurbishments during recent months. Hopefully, the activity programme will resume with the waining of Covid restrictions. Visiting has been difficult and restricted during the pandemic - again it is hoped that this will improve. Most staff seem helpful although a few could work on their empathy. The spring bedding plants have brightened up the entrance area recently and there is some outside seating available now that the weather is improving. Overall, very good.

Cannot fault in any way Cwmbran House Care Centre, the care they provide for my mother is second to none and the staff are just brilliant. My mother is settled and happy which is my only concern. As I live in Scotland, the management let me see my mother when it is possible for me to arrange a flight,
from in the morning to sometimes evening which I'm very grateful for.

My mother has been a resident in Cwmbran House Care Centre coming up to four years now. During this time she has received excellent care. The staff have been very proactive with regards to any medical issues, not hesitating to call in medical professionals as and when necessary. Also with regards to
this, the family have been kept informed of the same. She has her own room with en-suite facilities which we considered to be very important. She also has her own TV. The communal areas are of good standard and residents are encouraged to socialise and join in activities. Some of these include being taken out to local beauty spots. During the Covid pandemic, management and staff were very proactive with regard to keeping the residents safe and introduced many safety rules to minimize the chance of the virus spreading. Overall my mother and our family have found the home to be of a high standard and somewhere she has said herself to be a lovely place.

Cwmbran House is a very friendly and caring environment and my mother quite quickly settled in when she became a resident over four years ago. She is well looked after and the paramedics are called when the staff are concerned about my mother’s health.

My aunt is receiving wonderful care and enjoys many of the activities, including trips out. They demonstrate excellent liaison with other agencies, for example, the mental health team where dementia becomes an issue. Staff are extremely friendly and caring, not just with the residents but with family,
which has been much appreciated. Special events such as Birthdays are celebrated with cake and lots of attention is paid to ensuring the resident and family have a wonderful time. Big thank you to all the staff.

After making the difficult decision to move my mum into a residential home we feel blessed that it was Cwmbran House. Mum was very poorly going in there, but the difference in 12 months is nothing short of remarkable. She lives as much of an independent life as is possible now and really loves the staff.
Mum is now joining in with the activities that are provided and has made friends with other residents. More importantly, Mum trusts the staff implicitly and feels safe and secure.

Having visited several homes with a view to my mother's care, I can honestly say the moment we walked into Cwmbran House I knew it was the home for my Mum. The other homes we viewed didn't come close to match Cwmbran House.

I always feel welcome when I arrive.
The staff are friendly and approachable.
My mother has gained weight and her appetite has improved.
She is well cared for and feels able to ask the staff if she needs anything.
I looked at several care homes before choosing this one and feel we have chosen well.

Alex Antonescu

Job Title: Clinical Lead Nurse Joined: 2020

Alex started in care in 2016 as a healthcare assistant and soon after as a team leader and nursing assistant in England.


Alex joined Hafod in 2022 as a staff nurse and soon after became a clinical lead at our Ty Penrhos Care Home and was in charge of different units. Alex then worked at our Arthur Jenkins Care Home to support with medication management and care planning, before taking the opportunity to become clinical team lead at Cwmbran House.
