Cwmbran House is a not-for-profit care home and one of the highest-rated care homes in Cwmbran, as reviewed by residents and their families.

Cwmbran House is a purpose-built single-storey care home for over 65s in Pontnewydd, Cwmbran. It has 56 bedrooms across three separate living areas, all alongside the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. The team focus on giving a great quality of life to people, whatever their abilities and needs are.

One wing is for specialist dementia care and the remaining two rooms are for the care of physically dependent older people. Two of the wings contain a lounge and dining area with a fully fitted kitchen and the other wing is comprised of 3 dining areas joined to individual rooms.

The team of specially trained colleagues provide tailored care to all of the residents, including those living with dementia.

Privacy of individuals is all important to the home, with the provision of locking doors and furniture. The majority of bedrooms are en-suite and some have adapted bathrooms.

Chefs provide a daily menu of tasty and nutritious meals. Special dietary requirements are taken into account.

This place is amazing ,my mother was reluctant to go into a care home she's been here two weeks and wants to stay there for the rest of her life.mam has been so well looked after and cared for .she is clean every day her mind is challenged with games and chats
The home is comfortable lovely on suite
rooms. Amazing staff so kind and friendly
Nothing is too much trouble they have made my mam feel like she's in a first class hotel only better .mam is 90 in feb and loving life after spending many years on her own
Her mind is now challenged and her hygiene is brilliant such a clean place . I love it I can't thank you all enough

I am really impressed with this care home. It is very clean and my nan is well cared for. When I turn up to visit, the residents are always well looked after by the staff who engage with the residents carrying out activities. I really appreciate the staff going above and beyond and updating me on my
nan's condition. They also regularly update their social media page which is nice to see when I haven't visited for a few days.

This is my mum's second respite care for two weeks. All the staff welcomed her back and are absolutely lovely to her. She has alzheimers and can be difficult at times, but I felt absolutely confident leaving her in the care of Cwmbran House when we went abroad for a week. She is a pescetarian and her
diet was catered for. All her washing was done and came back smelling lovely. I would have no hesitation in recommending Cwmbran House for respite or full time care. It is a wonderful place and is lovely to know that my husband and I can take a break from caring, and she will be well cared for. Thank you so much.

A fabulous Mother's Day teatime. The tables were delightfully laid. Super selection of food. Constant top ups to tea and drinks. A lovely social occassion.
The carers were delightful, caring and gentle.

I can honestly say that the change in the care home has been amazing. The carers are so good with the residents and keep them amused a lot more. Big shout out to the entertainments coordinator. She is so interactive with the residents and they are always busy crafting, singing, dancing and playing games.
I am really impressed with the change.

Cwmbran House Care Home has provided our mother with a safe place to live for the past 10 months. Mum has dementia and has the space to walk around as the corridors are long which gives her freedom and a certain amount of independence. The garden which is accessible from the communal room is wonderful
during winter and summer and provides a safe space. As a family, we are very pleased with mum's care and I could recommend this care home.

We chose Cwmbran House as my mother always loved gardening and the resident's rooms are situated so each has a view of well-maintained gardens and use of same in good weather.
The home is clean and organised with a friendly atmosphere.
Importantly, the staff is very professional; equally essential,
residents are treated with kindness, thoughtfulness, patience, and respect. (Plus plenty of fun).
Families are welcomed at any time which is hugely reassuring, with any enquiries I have made being answered promptly and with care.
I have witnessed many fun-filled activities taking place, seen that birthdays are remembered, and have heard from more than one resident that the food is good too.
12 months on, I am so thankful we made the right choice for my mother, who is very happy here and would recommend Cwmbran House unreservedly.

My Mother has been at Cwmbran House Residential Care Home for nearly 2 years and most of the staff are very attentive. It is very obvious that it is understaffed. They try their best but sometimes Mum has to wait to be taken to the toilet. We were promised trips out in the minibus as part of the activity
programme but this has never happened. The use of agency staff means that some don't know the residents. There are some exceptional agency staff who are very good. Mum has her favourite carers who look after her well.

My brother, sister, and I viewed this care home and found that on just viewings it impressed us with its cleanliness and spaciousness which we found comforting. Also, we are very impressed by the care/resident relationship. We as a family were relieved when a place became available for our Mother. The
care our Mother receives has more than lived up to expectations. There are numerous activities for residents to participate in. I personally feel reassured after every visit that our Mother is in good hands.

I can’t praise this care home enough. The staff are so friendly to visitors and residents creating a lovely vibe in the home. Residents are happy, engaged and very well looked after, being offered a selection of activities daily. My mother is so happy here and loves the craft, singing and various visitors

During the two years that my mother has been a resident, I have found the standards of the home to be very good indeed. The food is always very good and well-presented. The home is very clean and well-maintained. The facilities are excellent. Staff are always friendly when we visit and very helpful.
There seems to be an occasional problem with the laundry with items goings missing.

My dad has recently moved into the home and instantly felt safe and relaxed, he is already joining other residents for his meals, which he says are lovely. All the staff are so caring and treat the residents as part of their family. His room is bright and homely and we have been encouraged to make it
individual to dad with photos, his favourite chair and lots of other bits from home. He is also allowed visits from his favourite dog, which cheers him up no end. The family are so grateful to all the staff as we can now relax knowing he is being looked after so well.

My mum has been a resident at Cwmbran House Care Home since March 2020.
In my opinion, the care home dealt with Covid as well as could be expected under very difficult circumstances.
The home is exceptionally clean and has been constructed in a way that provides the residents with an abundance of
natural light and views of the gardens.
Rooms are really good and every time I have visited my mum, her room is clean and fresh.
Communication between staff and myself either via email or phone has always been prompt with any issues/queries effectively dealt with by the staff.
I feel confident that my mum is being well looked after in a safe and caring environment.
Cwmbran House is definitely a care home I would happily recommend.

Alex started in care in 2016 as a healthcare assistant and soon after as a team leader and nursing assistant in England.


Alex joined Hafod in 2022 as a staff nurse and soon after became a clinical lead at our Ty Penrhos Care Home and was in charge of different units. Alex then worked at our Arthur Jenkins Care Home to support with medication management and care planning, before taking the opportunity to become clinical team lead at Cwmbran House.
