Cwmbran House is a not-for-profit care home and one of the highest-rated care homes in Cwmbran, as reviewed by residents and their families.

Cwmbran House is a purpose-built single-storey care home for over 65s in Pontnewydd, Cwmbran. It has 56 bedrooms across three separate living areas, all alongside the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. The team focus on giving a great quality of life to people, whatever their abilities and needs are.

One wing is for specialist dementia care and the remaining two rooms are for the care of physically dependent older people. Two of the wings contain a lounge and dining area with a fully fitted kitchen and the other wing is comprised of 3 dining areas joined to individual rooms.

The team of specially trained colleagues provide tailored care to all of the residents, including those living with dementia.

Privacy of individuals is all important to the home, with the provision of locking doors and furniture. The majority of bedrooms are en-suite and some have adapted bathrooms.

Chefs provide a daily menu of tasty and nutritious meals. Special dietary requirements are taken into account.

  • Visitors ae welcome at any time although the team kindly ask them to avoid protected meal times (12 - 1pm and 4.30 - 5.30pm) unless otherwise agreed. To encourage regular visits, relatives have the opportunity to purchase a key fob so that they can pop by as they please.

The home is under a new manager and things are starting to improve.
The home is in the process of being refurbished.
The service to the residents is improving.

My father-in-law is settled in the home. I am very satisfied with the cleanliness, facilities and the excellent members of staff who are friendly, helpful, caring and always approachable. The staff make the residents feel at home and always have them laughing and sit with them whenever they feel the
residents need a chat or maybe just a shoulder to cry on. I also myself sometimes feel sad when I visit and the staff even comfort me. Amazing staff Amazing home.

Alex Antonescu

Job Title: Clinical Lead Nurse Joined: 2020

Alex started in care in 2016 as a healthcare assistant and soon after as a team leader and nursing assistant in England.


Alex joined Hafod in 2022 as a staff nurse and soon after became a clinical lead at our Ty Penrhos Care Home and was in charge of different units. Alex then worked at our Arthur Jenkins Care Home to support with medication management and care planning, before taking the opportunity to become clinical team lead at Cwmbran House.
