My Mum spent the last four months of her life in Wallace View before dying in their care last week. The care that Mum received was exceptional. The staff quickly assessed her needs and shaped the care she received to meet those needs, even changing usual routines and practices to ensure that her
needs were met. The staff were unfailingly caring and patient. In all I think the word kindness sums up the approach to caring in this home. This was particularly evident as Mum was dying and both she and her family were treated with gentleness and compassion.

On the whole, the care home is great, and they look after my father well. My only concern is that the room is very dated and needs to be upgraded, especially his bathroom. The nursing staff are excellent and the entertainment team are always ensuring that the residents have activities.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are glad to hear that overall, you are happy with the care your father receives. We are currently looking into a refurb and will keep you updated with this.

My mother has been a resident in Wallace View for a number of years now. She is always clean and tidy. There are always some kind of activities, etc to keep them entertained. The staff are attentive and approachable. I'm very happy with the placement. On occasion, the clothes that go to the laundry
are misplaced. Any problems that do arise are dealt with quickly and management makes sure of that. I could recommend Wallave View to anyone.

My mother has now been in the excellent care of Wallace View for almost 2 years. The home is very well managed and run by a team of dedicated staff.
The activities coordinators do a great job of keeping residents entertained with a variety of activities from pot planting, painting, games plus regular
entertainment from singers and themed musical afternoons.
The rooms are light and airy and well equipped, all en suite.
There are regular meetings which the residents/families can attend for any updates. All of the caring staff are extremely approachable and the communication is excellent.
I have no hesitation in recommending Wallace View to anyone looking for care for their loved ones. Thank you Wallace View!

My dear late friend spent the last two and a half years of a turbulent and wind-swept life in Wallace View. I was delighted that she was in excellent, skilled hands, and cared for in a most exemplary fashion. It was always a pleasure to visit Wallace View on my annual trips to Scotland. I remember one
lovely occasion when the residents were gathered in the drawing room for the pleasure of a visit by a Highland pony and his/her handlers! It was such a scene of interest and joy, with many smiles, and much chatter and laughter. The staff were always efficient, cheerful and unstinting in their care of my friend. I always left Wallace View with a sense of calm, with my many anxieties about my friend set to rest. I thank you again for not just 'doing a job' but going way above and beyond. Your residents are in good, safe, capable hands and are lucky to have you.

Since our Dad moved into Wallace View nine months ago he has received exceptional care. The staff are professional, kind, friendly and very caring. They have really taken the time to get to know Dad and our family. He is listened to and always treated with dignity and respect. There is a lovely atmosphere
and the staff often have a laugh and joke with Dad when they are going about their work. Any medical issues have been attended to straight away with seamless liaison with the GP and other medical professionals. There is a good range of activities for the residents who are encouraged to join in and our Dad has really enjoyed the art class and lovely live music and singing. We would highly recommend this care home and it is very comforting to know how well looked after he is.

From the first day, we went to have a visit, straight away we were made feel very welcome and you could see that it felt a fantastic atmosphere with staff and residents. Now my father-in-law has been in a couple of months he has settled in and the staff are great he is much happier and enjoys all the
activities they have and nothing is a bother if you need to ask there is always someone willing to help. Just knowing he is safe and well looked after and happy makes me happy thank you for that.

My father-in-law has been in residential care here since January 2023 and the care home has a warm and friendly atmosphere. You are greeted as soon as you enter the building by cheerful staff who really make the time and effort to know family and friends of residents. If there are any concerns regarding
my family member, they notify me straight away.
There are a variety of entertainment and activities for residents, some of which have included singers, animal visits, and exercise.
My father-in-law has settled in exceptionally well, and he and our family have built great relationships with all of the staff. I couldn’t have asked for better people to care for him. He is always having a laugh with staff when we are there. It’s great to see him happy now!

We have found that selecting Wallace View Care Home was an excellent choice for our mum. The staff are lovely compassionate and caring. Our mum is being well cared for and we can be confident that they are making Mum's time there as comfortable and safe as possible. The staff are approachable too and
if we need to discuss anything regarding mum's care the opportunity is always available. Mum particularly enjoys the music days which give her great pleasure. Can't praise the team enough.

We are completely satisfied with the care and attention my mother has enjoyed since entering their care. The staff go above and beyond to make sure the residents are cared for and kept safe.
Most staff are very approachable and helpful. The activities staff do all kinds of things with the residents
and take them out and about whenever they can. Recently my mum has had days out at local sculptures, the seaside and the Edinburgh Tattoo. She has even been given a job, she goes round with the refreshment trolley and this gives her a purpose!
She is kept clean and tidy and her room is spotless. The hairdresser visits every fortnight and a chiropodist looks after her feet.
A lot of the residents have dementia and things 'go missing'! Staff do their best to find or replace them.
I visited several homes in the area before she went in and I am so glad we chose Wallace View.

This is a difficult review to write. My mother was a resident here from December 2021 until April 26, 2022. I never felt like this was mum's home. I visited every day the home was open and frequently found mum with no hearing aids in and often no glasses on, which only isolated her even more than she
already was, her catheter bag full and hanging out of her trouser leg for all to see. She was more often than not sleeping/drowsy and didn’t interact at all. She spent Christmas Day on her own in her room after we were assured on leaving her at lunchtime she was going along to the lounge to be with other residents. Then on Mother’s Day, we had a 20-minute timed visit in the car park with mum with a member of staff in attendance the whole time, so was more like a prison visit. We eventually decided to move mum to another care home. The day she was leaving the manager came and hugged mum and apologised for the care she’d been given. Some members of staff exceptional, so difficult review.

Where do I start, I was never happy with Mum's care in Wallace View, from her small tired bedroom to the overall way the home looked and was run. My mum was in here for around four months which were terrible, from her appearing to be unresponsive to sleeping all the time. She spent Christmas Day on
her own in her room after being assured she was going along for lunch, we got a Mother’s Day visit in the carpark, timed by a carer to 20 minutes, Mum sitting with a full catheter bag on display, losing hearing aids, to them regularly not being put in so Mum would be lost in her own world as she couldn’t hear. I found her one afternoon in the dining area on her own trying to eat the cheapest sandwich I’d seen but with nothing to drink. I had to ask for juice. We constantly brought up catheter, hearing aids, etc. but nothing ever changed and we eventually moved Mum to another home where we were amazed at how much of our old mum we got back and where visiting was a pleasure.

We were sorry to read your review and your comments and feedback have been passed to the home. We were disappointed you feel that previous complaints were not addressed and this will be looked into to see what action was recorded and how this was reviewed as I can see you noted your review related to December 2021.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

My best friend of over 65 years is a resident within this care home and she sadly has dementia in her 70s and could no longer remain within her own home. Her husband also was a resident within this care home prior to his death. The very high standard of care her husband received prior to his death was
just amazing, hence the reason her children decided that a few years later when their mother’s mental health deteriorated, Wallace View was the best home to keep their mum safe and well. The Manager and all her employees are just so kind and caring. No matter what constraints they are under especially due to COVID rules and regulations, any resident within Wallace View is given 100% attention and all their needs are met. I would highly recommend this Care Home to anyone needing a happy, homely, safe environment for their loved one. The whole team of staff are just wonderful!

My relation was transferred to this Nursing Care Home in Spring 2021 in the middle of the Covid Pandemic. The manager and her team of staff are so kind and caring and they all go beyond their remit despite how extremely busy they all are. They ensure they deliver the highest quality of care but most
importantly in a friendly, person-centred manner. The manager is so approachable and considerate towards any requests from relatives and addresses all needs for her residents right down to the décor creating a homely setting rather than clinical. The atmosphere created by all staff is so friendly and they treat everyone with courtesy and deliver a wonderful standard of care. It makes the residents feel they are living with an extended family and they love the entertainment within the home as well as excursions out on Rickshaws, going to the "Teapot Club" within the local community, walks or pushed in wheelchairs to the park, hand massages, sing songs and many more fun activities.

My elderly, frail 91-year-old mother has been a resident within Wallace View Care Home dementia unit since May 2021. The standard of care she has been receiving is absolutely overwhelming. The Manager leads by example and demonstrates kindness, compassion, person-centeredness, and all her staff within
this establishment follow her lead and together they are a strong, united team. They treat each resident with such courtesy, dignity and respect as if it were their own relatives they were looking after. The food is amazing and cooked to perfection. The gardens are kept so neatly and the residents all appear to enjoy their surroundings. Nursing Care is also delivered to a very high standard ensuring all medical needs are met. Entertainment is also a favourite with the residents as it encourages them to socialise and the staff go beyond the call of duty to sing and dance and put on shows out in the grounds of home, weather permitting. There are also professional entertainers.

Our family member was a resident for 3 years and throughout her journey, we always saw the incredible care and attention that was given to her and all residents. Our family member needed a variety of care during her time beginning with dementia and residential care on to nursing and palliative care,
to be able to get the excellent quality of care suited to a persons needs all in the same place is one of the many reasons we would recommend Wallace View Care Home. There was always a high standard of cleanliness of both personal care and general upkeep of the rooms. The one on one contact given to each resident as well as the interaction with group activities was comforting to see knowing that when we were not visiting our loved one she was still being socially active. A thank you to all Wallace View Care Home staff for the incredible work they do.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.027)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.027) out of 10 for Wallace View is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.744 for Wallace View is calculated as follows: ( (64 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 82 Ratings = 4.744
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.283 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wallace View is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.583
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
