I find that my relative doesn't always have a jumper or socks on .
I don't like the policy that relatives/ visitors cannot sit in dining room at mealtimes It is their home , not a hospital . It might be that some people want their loved one around at meal time or that they could be of help encouraging to eat rather than a negative impact .
I have found my relative sitting in front of an open window quite often . It may be warm in the room but it's very drafty to sit there for hours .
I have found they do not pick up on health issues and report concerns to seniors
The radio is constantly on in dining room and other rooms which I find unnecessary.
I find they do try hard to motivate people in various activities
I like that there is lots of space and various areas to chill in
They have a nice garden and take people out

Most staff are caring and try their best

On Christmas Day resident had requested a trifle for sweet. There was none left. They said they would take resident back to room and bring an alternative, this did not happen and they got no sweet. On Boxing Day I visited again and brought 2 trifles. I put one on the tray for that day and put one in fridge for the following day, and informed staff. She did not get this the next day. If menus were filled in the day before then surely cook should have had enough for all residents & if anyone changed their mind.

My father recently passed away in Charnwood Lodge. Staff on the unit were fantastic, so kind to us as dad passed away & he was treated with such dignity on his passing. My disappointment came from the home manager. Not one acknowledgement from her or one word of condolence. Not surprising really as she never seems to engage with families or even residents that I have witnessed. She is just lucky to have a very good deputy & the rest of the staff, but your manager certainly brought down our overall experience.

We're very sorry for your loss and thank you for your kind words about our care team - they'll be touched to know their support made a difference. We're also sorry to hear you felt let down by our management communication. Your feedback is important, and we'll reflect on this to ensure all families feel acknowledged and supported.

I find staff in general very approachable and hardworking, however, low staffing has impacted on care provision with lots of minor matters like clothes going missing, table tops unwashed, poor stimulation of residents and poor care of belongings and individual needs as a result. The garden is a mess, residents rarely get out to use it and as far as I'm aware there have been no recent trips out. My father is Compo Mentos but immobile and at times has no appropriate stimulation or company, mixing only with those who unfortunately, are suffering from dementia. Poor staffing levels & care of facilities = poor care.

Thank you for your feedback. We're pleased you find our staff approachable and hardworking. While staffing has been a challenge, care has always remained our top priority. We've recently recruited a second activity coordinator to help improve the social engagement and stimulation for all residents....

My wife who suffers from Alzheimer's Disease has been resident in Charnwood Lodge for some five and a half years. In that time, she has received exemplary treatment from all the staff and she is always happy and contented. She is well fed, and always well dressed and kept neat and tidy with a weekly visit to the hairdresser on site. I visit her regularly and I cannot fault the management and staff who make me feel welcome and keep me fully informed of her health and condition.

I can only praise the staff at Charnwood for the care and attention my mother has received since becoming a resident in their care. It does appear at times that staffing levels are not what they should be but they work hard to provide a good standard of care at all times. I am aware that recruitment is an issue in most care homes.

Attended the Christmas party which was a great success enjoyed by residents, families, friends and staff alike. Thank you for all the hard work that made it a memorable afternoon. Keep up the good work!

With so many problems recruiting in care homes, Charnwood Lodge is no different. However, staff (from local management to auxiliary support) work hard to ensure residents receive excellent care.
This year's Christmas party was a highlight and many staff who could have been off were there to support residents to enjoy themselves. Great afternoon of singing and dancing and every resident was made to feel special. Also good to see so many family and friends of residents in attendance and hopefully lots of money raised to enable the purchase of the specialist tablet for residents.
Thanks to all involved in making the party such a success. Mum had a great day!

Overall, very happy with the care given (and staff, who really go an extra mile) but feel that owners of Charnwood Lodge need to ensure the premises and facilities are brought up to a satisfactory level as commented on in the last Care Inspectorate report. Additional recruitment would allow staff to spend more quality time with residents.

The care my mother receives is excellent, the staff in her unit go above and beyond, they treat the residents like their own family. They are so welcoming when we visit, we could not ask for more.
The management keep you well informed with what is going on and call for medical assistance if or when it is required.

They all take away so much worry for the family.

My sister-in-law has Parkinson's disease and dementia. Unfortunately, my sister-in-law fell at home and fractured her femur in December 2021. Her dementia and paranoia deteriorated rapidly and she was unable to return to her home. She now resides in the E.M.U where she is safe, very well cared for and now settling in her new home. Staff are extremely supportive of her and myself.

Since my mum (aged 91+) moved into Charnwood Lodge following a hospital stay in June 2020, I have been very pleased with the care she has received. When my mum first moved in (during Covid), the staff (office and carers) have been tremendous to myself and my family! I have complete and utter trust in them and their caring abilities. My mum sufferers from urine infections on a regular basis, and the carers never fail to inform me. I can rest easy knowing that my mum's welfare is in the best of hands! Thank you all.

After a stay in hospital, the only option for my uncle was a care home and there was no question about where I wanted and that was Charnwood Lodge. Obviously, at this current time, we are unable to enter the building but I have been in at previous events and can only say that the welcome and atmosphere is excellent. The staff are so attentive and caring. I have recently joined the Facebook group and that is such a fantastic platform for us as families to see how happy and active our loved ones are. It is also great that they have tablets and ipads that you can FaceTime and video call on. The home has been through such a torrid time recently and yet they all have a smile on their face and a spring in their step. Proud to have my uncle in here.

My father came to live in the EMI unit at Charnwood last October. Despite his dementia, he has retained his pleasant personality and sense of humour. He is also quite physically fit. As a senior nurse, I had certain expectations of the care provision required and I am delighted to say Charnwood has met that expectation with ease and in a lovely, caring, personal way. He is cared for in a calm, but fun environment and is so settled. The level of care he receives is exceptional and as a family, we feel so fortunate to have this wonderful facility for his care in the latter years of his life.
