Dad came in to Scoonie House January 2026. He was welcomed warmly by staff, shown to his room and offered coffee, cake and an ice cream cone (his favourite) on arrival. Staff did their best to make him feel at home, and nothing was too much trouble. He is warm, comfortable and safe and I have found
the staff to be attentive and very kind at all times. His room is well equipped ensuite, and cleaning daily. He is enjoying his food, and has the option to eat in his room or in the the dining room. I am very happy and relieved to have found Scoonie House for dad!

Scoonie House has been a great place for my mum to be, the staff are all so caring for her and also amazing for our whole family. The home has always been very clean and tidy. The most important thing is that my mum is happy there. We all see so many negative stories regarding care homes but this is
the total opposite at Scoonie House. Our family can't thank the staff enough.
Reply from Rowen Campbell, on behalf of the team at Scoonie HouseWe're delighted that your mum is so happy with us - as you say, that's the most important thing. We really appreciate your feedback and you taking the time to share it with a review. Please don't hesitate to ask if there is ever anything more we can do to help your mum or your family.

Most things are very good. The only complaint I have heard from a few of the residents is that the quality of the food and the variety is not very good.

Mostly I am pleased with my mothers care. I have noticed that weekends the residents don't have any activities and are just sitting about. There is always room for improvement. New staff my not have the aptitude for caring, perhaps more training needed.

Whenever we visit (frequently) the home is clean and tidy and staff are around and friendly. Mum is also comfortable and clean and tidy. We are kept aware of what is happening socially and with regard to our mum. There are lots of visitors - youngsters and entertainers to amuse the residents and there
are also lots of outings arranged to lunch clubs. Regular visits from medical staff are reassuring. The meals (and regular treats) are of a very high standard.

My father-in-law has been here now for 7 months and has settled really well. He loves being outdoors and Scoonie has been able to fulfil this through lots of activities in the garden, enabling him to access the garden when he wanted to. Also loves his trips out to local venues. Staff are very friendly,

Everyone cared for my grandma with great pride and support. In my grandma's final days, we were overwhelmed with support and love from the carers. Nothing was a bother to them. They gave my grandma the dignity she deserved! I cannot recommend Scoonie House more. A fantastic team. My grandma loved the
team and was always encouraged to be herself. Thank you all.

My mother moved here a month ago. We had reviewed 3 other local homes and this was the stand out choice. The staff are lovely and plentiful. The food according to my mother, is amazing. She is still settling in but is now coming out of her shell and is enjoying the activites immensly. There are activities
which I did not see the same quality or regularity at other homes. It was a very good choice.
Reply from Harry O'Brien, on behalf of the team at Scoonie HouseThank you so much for your thoughtful review! It really means a lot to us to know that Scoonie House feels like the right choice for your mother. We understand how big a step it is, and we're so delighted to see her starting to come out of her shell and enjoy the activities - that's exactly what we hope for. Knowing she's happy with the food and that you've felt supported by the team is wonderful to hear. We'll continue to do all we can to help her feel at home. Thanks again for your lovely feedback!

Both my parents moved to Scoonie Care Home at the end of August 2024. Both have very different needs, my dad is physically frail but still mentally very able. My mum has dementia and has no independent mobility. From the first time I took my dad to see the home he has been treated with dignity, respect,
and kindness. From the managers to the seniors, carers, and domestic staff, everyone is friendly and caring. One of the things that stands out most to me though, is how inclusive the home is. My mum would be easy to ignore. They could leave her sitting watching the TV and she'd be ok. But they don't. They encourage her to join in activities, they make a point of speaking to her and include her in conversations, and they've even had her out for lunch. My dad loves the meals, and the trips to The Bistro when visitors come in - the home's own cafe area.
Reply from Harry O'Brien, on behalf of the team at Scoonie HouseThank you so much for your thoughtful review. We're really pleased to hear how well both your mum and dad have settled into life at Scoonie. Supporting each resident as an individual is something we care deeply about, so it means a great deal to know that your dad feels respected and cared for, and that your mum is being actively included and encouraged. It's lovely to hear she's been enjoying the activities and even trips out for lunch. We'll make sure your kind words are shared with the whole team - including those behind the scenes - as it's feedback like this that reminds us why we do what we do.

I am very happy that my friend is living in such a comfortable care home. My first impressions of the home made me feel that my friend could settle in very well. Coming from a quite large 2-bedroomed home to having her own bedroom with toilet was just what she needed. She was very fortunate that everything
in her room was brand new. The home itself is clean and odour-free. She has been there for a few months now and appears to be content. The staff are friendly and recently I attended a relatives meeting which was very informative. My friend has been taken out a couple of times which is great and has benefitted from the hairdressing facility.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.783)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.783) out of 10 for Scoonie House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.783 for Scoonie House is calculated as follows: ( (204 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 244 Ratings = 4.783
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Scoonie House is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
