Scoonie House is a charming Victorian home sympathetically converted to provide residential care for up to 36 elderly residents providing residential and palliative care on a permanent and short stay basis, trial stays are also available.

Located in a central yet tranquil area in the heart of the seaside village of Leven, the home is ideal for residents wishing to protect their independence, while enjoying the attention of a friendly and professional team of carers and an activities programme that promotes quality physical and emotional health.

All staff are dementia trained and work hard to establish an environment where residents feel safe and respected. This specialist training also extends to the hospitality team and chefs who are able to stimulate senses and increase creativity in the cooking and presentation of food, providing the best possible dining experience for residents living with dementia and or dysphagia.

I regard Scoonie House to be an excellent care home. My association with the staff has been exceptional, and the needs of residents are taken on board. My mother has been cared for within Scoonue House for six-plus years, and I haven't any concerns that have not been dealt with to my satisfaction. I

The staff were good at getting my mum settled, she was really unhappy when she was put in the home, but now when you see her, she looks happier than she has for a long time. Her mental health has also improved because she is doing things and has people to speak to.

Staff are kind, caring and considerate of Mum's needs. They always contact the family if any problems with Mum's health, and I can phone at any time for updates. The lounge is comfortable and had a revamp. Chairs are more comfortable. Mum's room ok, but could do with a bit of TLC, but this could be
due to the fact she doesn't like change and sleeps a lot during the day.

Comfortable rooms, enabling my husband to be with me. Staff and carers are good, but nights need training on stroke survivors. Meals find with choices and plenty to eat. On the whole, very clean and comfortable.

Scoonie has become a home from home for my partner. The staff are caring, considerate and kind, and every day, in some way, go well beyond their remit. The residents are treated with respect, love and kindness. Every member of staff is approachable - management included with exceptionally high standards.
Scoonie is well kept, exceptionally clean and fresh. The decor etc is good. I’ve been made to feel welcome when I visit and allowed to spend time, and have lunch occasionally with my partner. When the time comes for me to go into care, then I’ve instructed those concerned to make sure I go into Scoonie. This is a first-class, caring home which I would highly recommend.

My uncle has been in Soonie House for six months now. He has lived alone for most of his life. It is good to see he is mixing well at the home with the encouragement of the staff. He settled in quicker than I thought he would, again, I think because of the staff.

My family and I are very happy with the care my mother is given at Scoonie House. The staff are caring and attentive. If anyone has an elderly family member who requires looking after and you want them to move into somewhere, where you know they will be safe, and more importantly, looked after to a very high standard, then look no further than Scoonie care home.


Both my dad and mother-in-law are residents here,

and all the family have nothing but good things to say about the place itself and also the staff.


A special shout out to the care home manager, who since day one has been nothing but professional and approachable, and we know that the home and our family members are in great hands, knowing she is at the helm.

I cannot thank the staff enough for my mother's care. They go above and beyond the "day job". They have a very hard job normally, but even more so in this pandemic. They have stepped up not only as carers but as "family" while we cannot visit. They keep us informed daily of what's happening, and nothing

During the current coronavirus pandemic and lockdown, communication with the care home has been excellent. Our family have felt fully informed of measures to protect residents. We have had daily updates of how our family member has been. This was particularly comforting during an outbreak at the premises.
Management and staff have been keeping strictly to government guidelines and beyond which has been particularly reassuring. It has been great to see photos of activities on facebook and newsletters. They've made special days of birthdays, father and mothers day and many events like VE day. We heartily commend the management and staff team for continuing during extremely difficult circumstances to provide a caring homely atmosphere, while also attending to the specific needs of every individual.

The unit has 36 residents so all the staff get to know residents well. The staff have a good friendly disposition towards residents and families. On some occasions, senior staff have not been present, e.g. overnight but new recruitment should prevent any reoccurrence. Activities level has been recognised
as lower than desired but again recent recruitment has begun to address that issue. Resident rooms are respected as private spaces by all. The staff will check on residents to prevent isolation. The ambience of the home is friendly and relaxed.

Melanie is our Home Manager at Scoonie House – here’s a glimpse into her role at the home in her own words:
“I ensure that the residents have the possibility to participate in the day-to-day running of the home to ensure that they we know what’s important to them and that they’re receiving the care and attention they need.
I enjoy developing ways to promote the residents’ rights and responsibilities and provide information, advice and support not only to the residents but also to their families. I’m also creating opportunities for residents to contribute to the local community and access local services, giving them a sense of freedom and belonging.
Having been at Scoonie House for a number of years, I have a vast knowledge and understanding of our home and residents.”
