Huntercombe Hall Care Home

from Matt W (Son of Resident) published on 17 September 2025
Submitted via Postal Card • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Mum has been here for nearly 2 years. Staff retention means that almost all staff are permanent and longstanding. They all know Mum really well and are always kind and caring. I feel really pleased that mum is here, safe and looked after. The team put on lots of activities, and the food is great.
Reply from Stuart Lamacraft, On behalf of the team at Huntercombe Hall Care Home

Thank you for sharing your kind review. It's wonderful to hear that your mum has felt so well supported over the past two years, and that the continuity of long-standing staff has helped her to be known and cared for so personally. We are delighted you feel reassured that she is safe and well looked after, and it's lovely to know she enjoys both the activities and the food. Your appreciation will mean a great deal to the whole team at Huntercombe Hall.

Cranmer Court

from H P (Daughter of Resident) published on 17 September 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I visit on a weekly basis & during the two years I have been a regular visitor, I have always received a warm & friendly greeting. The first impression is very positive. The staff I meet during my visits are always receptive.
As with all care homes, staff turnover & retention can be a challenge.
There have been a considerable number of established staff leaving, & it does often leave a gap in experience & consistency. Team work can sometimes appear a little stretched.
The nursing staff - excellent! The new Manager is very approachable.
The newly decorated dining rooms look light & inviting & I have only heard good things about the food & the Chef.
During the past month, there have been problems with broken lifts. On occasions, no working lift, which has been an issue for both my mother, to go down to the garden & for my father visiting. I understand this has now been resolved.
The gardens are well maintained and there is a pleasant atmosphere at Cranmer Court.
Reply from Stuart Lamacraft, On behalf of the team at Cranmer Court

Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful and balanced review of your experiences at Cranmer Court. We are delighted to hear that you always receive a warm welcome on your visits, and that you have found the nursing team, our approachable new manager, and the freshly decorated dining areas to be so positive. Your comments about the food and the atmosphere are also greatly appreciated. We recognise your observations around staff changes and the recent challenges with the lifts, and we are grateful for your understanding as we worked to resolve them. Feedback like yours is invaluable in helping us to continue improving, and we will share your kind words with the team, who will be encouraged by your appreciation of their efforts.

Mum was reluctant to move to a care home but needed full nursing care. Every member of staff helped her to adjust quickly because of their kindness and respect. She was able to enjoy the activities and outings despite severe mobility problems. Not last 6 months were spent at Stowford House and we could
not have asked for better care from everyone.
Reply from Stuart Lamacraft, On behalf of the team at Stowford House

Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt reflection on your mum's time at Stowford House. We understand how difficult it can be to make the move into full nursing care, and it's reassuring to hear that the kindness and respect shown by the team helped your mum to settle so well. It is lovely that she was able to take part in activities and outings despite her mobility challenges, and that her final months were spent surrounded by care, dignity and compassion. Your kind words mean a great deal to the team, and they will be touched to know the difference they made for both your mum and your family.

I have found the home very friendly.
Staff are always helpful.
Good that we can help ourselves to tea, coffee, cake, etc, anytime.
The sunlounge is a very pleasant place to sit and chat. Also, the library on the colder days.

I can't fault it. Very pleasant and caring staff. My partner's room is very spacious and comfortable. It's very peaceful here. The grounds are neat and well kept. I can bring Buddy our little dog along to see her which is so comforting.
All visitors have remarked on the lovely building and how comfortable
my partner looks.
There's always someone within reach if we require help with anything.
The food is excellent and remains hot even though it's served in her room.

My mum needed to be moved to a new nursing home very urgently. The manager and admin have gone above and beyond to provide a room with all the space facilities she needs. It is very spacious and clean. The manager has been brilliant and reassuring right from the start. I am very confident that my mum

My father had been a resident of Steep House for over 2 years, he sadly passed away late last week. Dad had deteriorated markedly over the past month and while not unexpected his death was understandbly a shock.
Throughout his time at Steep House Dad had been very happy and made it his want to interact
will the staff, they also enjoyed his company, sharp mind and great sense of humour.
Throughout his final weeks the staff regularly popped their heads around the door to chat with Dad. All were fantastic but a special thanks to the team on the medical side. We as a family can't thank the staff for the way they treated Dad and the dignity he was shown during his passing away.
Mum continues to reside at Steep, so we will see all the staff as we continue to visit. A huge thank you to all for the kindness shown to both our parents.
Reply from Stuart Lamacraft, On behalf of the team at Steep House Nursing Home

Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt reflection on your father's time at Steep House. We are deeply sorry for your loss and send our sincere condolences to you and your family at this difficult time. It is moving to hear how your father's humour and sharp mind left a lasting impression on those around him, and how the team were able to provide both companionship and dignity in his final weeks. Your kind words about the medical staff and wider team mean so much, and we are glad your mother continues to feel at home with us. My Father is currently in hospital, but my mother who is a resident at Huntercombe Hall Care Home was due to have an x-ray at the same hospital. The deputy manager was extremely thoughtful and went out of her way to take her to see my father who was so pleased to see her as he missed going to see her.

This is something that Huntercombe Hall Care Home makes them stand out from the rest. Nothing is a problem as everyone is always will to help and accommodate anyway that they can.
So pleased that she is being looked after so well and more important she is very happy there!
Thank you

My parents are now both enjoying the excellent care provided by Stowford House.
My father is recovering from an operation and is very frail. All the staff treat him gently, with a smile and respect.
My mother can no longer be left at home alone and she has blossomed since her arrival at Stowford,
happily joining in most of the activities. She is making friendships and loves the tasty food.
My heartfelt thanks go to all the staff, for whom nothing is too much trouble.

My oldest (in both senses of the word) friend spent three weeks at Walstead Place. He was there for respite care. From the beginning, the process gave me plenty of confidence that this was going to be a great choice. Although our initial enquiry was probably a few months too early, Walstead said they
would be in touch every few weeks and then confirm his booking, a couple of months in advance. They did exactly what they said they would do.
The staff really made my friend feel welcome and every time I saw him he was full of praise for them. He was well looked after. He was a bit under the weather on arrival and looked so much better by the time he left. The staff made time to have a chat and a joke and never made either of us feel like they were too busy to talk or help. The facilities and location are lovely. The dining room seemed buzzy and he reported that the food was good (and he is a fussy fellow) It looked good to me too. He wants to go back next time he needs respite care.
