My uncle has been in Soonie House for six months now. He has lived alone for most of his life. It is good to see he is mixing well at the home with the encouragement of the staff. He settled in quicker than I thought he would, again, I think because of the staff.

My family and I are very happy with the care my mother is given at Scoonie House. The staff are caring and attentive. They are very supportive of her, and as regular visitors, we are kept up to date with how she is regarding any health or care issues. We have recommended the home to others whose relatives have needed full-time care.

If anyone has an elderly family member who requires looking after and you want them to move into somewhere, where you know they will be safe, and more importantly, looked after to a very high standard, then look no further than Scoonie care home.

Both my dad and mother-in-law are residents here, and all the family have nothing but good things to say about the place itself and also the staff.

A special shout out to the care home manager, who since day one has been nothing but professional and approachable, and we know that the home and our family members are in great hands, knowing she is at the helm.

I cannot thank the staff enough for my mother's care. They go above and beyond the "day job". They have a very hard job normally, but even more so in this pandemic. They have stepped up not only as carers but as "family" while we cannot visit. They keep us informed daily of what's happening, and nothing is too much trouble for them. We, as a family, would like to thank each and every staff member for all the hard work they do.

During the current coronavirus pandemic and lockdown, communication with the care home has been excellent. Our family have felt fully informed of measures to protect residents. We have had daily updates of how our family member has been. This was particularly comforting during an outbreak at the premises. Management and staff have been keeping strictly to government guidelines and beyond which has been particularly reassuring. It has been great to see photos of activities on facebook and newsletters. They've made special days of birthdays, father and mothers day and many events like VE day. We heartily commend the management and staff team for continuing during extremely difficult circumstances to provide a caring homely atmosphere, while also attending to the specific needs of every individual.

The unit has 36 residents so all the staff get to know residents well. The staff have a good friendly disposition towards residents and families. On some occasions, senior staff have not been present, e.g. overnight but new recruitment should prevent any reoccurrence. Activities level has been recognised as lower than desired but again recent recruitment has begun to address that issue. Resident rooms are respected as private spaces by all. The staff will check on residents to prevent isolation. The ambience of the home is friendly and relaxed.

My dad has been in Scoonie House for three years on the 24th January. He likes it as much now as the first day he arrived. Dad is quite content, he said that Christmas and New Year was one of the best he has ever had. He also said that all the staff work very hard to make his life comfortable. My husband and I think it's a great home, very friendly, very clean and comfortable.

This is my second review of my mother's care at Scoonie House following yet another respite stay there. The staff are just wonderful to her and she is very happy there. The whole family are delighted about how she has settled to having respite stays at Scoonie House and I am delighted with all aspects of the service. Having confidence in knowing my mother's needs are being met, allows me to holiday with my grandchildren without any worries about her being upset or difficult (which she can be). I understand that each home is different but for me when I go to Scoonie House, it feels like someone such as my Mum has arrived home as opposed to going to a home. Formality is replaced by a warm welcome. Last time I took her there she was whisked off to join others for lunch - during the short period while I took her bag to her room, she had settled to talking to others at the table to the extent she just offhandedly waved me goodbye. That is what I call a result!

Mum moved into Scoonie House in October 2004. From the first day, the staff treated her with warmth and dignity. She was cared for to a high standard. The management and her team do a wonderful job and I would strongly recommend to people looking for a care home.

We have just had my aunts 100th birthday at Scoonie organised by a member of staff - a great job and provided organised publicity and visits by councillors.

A 90th birthday tea party had been arranging for the female resident, but the usual visiting hairdresser to the home was ill and my relative's hair was badly in need of styling for the 'big day'. One of the regular care staff offered her skills and on the morning of the party took time to wash and style my relative's hair in the home's hairdressing room at no extra charge, even though the end result was every bit as good as that of a professional hairdresser: an illustration of the commitment to care of the staff at Scoonie House.

Every member of staff assisted in the settling in of our friend, and this was achieved very quickly with their help. It is reassuring that our friend's wellbeing is obviously paramount to them as any health concerns are addressed swiftly and we are updated constantly. The staff are very caring, understanding and patient with the residents and the excellent rapport they have with them all is evident. They are always so friendly and helpful to us and willingly give their time no matter what is asked of them or how busy they are.

I ensure that the residents have the possibility to participate in the day-to-day running of the home to ensure that we know what’s important to them and that they’re receiving the care and attention they need.

I enjoy developing ways to promote the residents’ rights and responsibilities and provide information, advice and support not only to the residents but also to their families. I’m also creating opportunities for residents to contribute to the local community and access local services, giving them a sense of freedom and belonging.

Having been at Scoonie House since 2005, I have a vast knowledge and understanding of our home and residents.
