In my personal experience, I felt very let down by this home. It often was that mum spent most days in her bedroom or in front of the television, and I did not see what I would consider meaningful activities and there were zero outings during her three years there. While many staff appeared caring,
they seemed short-staffed, which in my view affected Mum's individual care. I was concerned about communication, including hospital appointments cancelled without my knowledge and documentation I found inaccurate or incomplete. If I raised any concerns, the response felt defensive rather than supportive. In my opinion, the facilities felt tired and in need of updating. We chose to decorate Mum's room ourselves to make it feel more homely and comfortable .My overall opinion and impression was that finance seemed to outweigh personalised care. Sadly, in my opinion our experience did not reflect the care and support we had hoped for.
Reply from Mary Fox, Manager at Foxley HouseWhile we respect differing views, the comments in this review are unrecognisable to our staff and service, and are both disappointing and misleading given the four to five wonderful years this individual and their family visibly enjoyed in our care home.

For confidentiality reasons, we cannot address the comments in full. However, the review was submitted 8-9 months after the person left our service, raising questions about the timing and context. It may even relate to experiences elsewhere.

For an independent, credible view, we invite you to visit the Care Inspectorate website, where our service is appraised as very good in all areas, including personal care, meaningful activities, management, and leadership.

We remain fully committed to continually improving our service and providing a warm, meaningful, and homely environment for all our residents and their families.

After new management took over in 2024, my experience of this home changed significantly. What had once felt warm and welcoming became cold and uninviting. I felt individual residents' needs were no longer the priority. Mistakes were made, things were often missed, and communication felt poor. Issues
were dealt with reactively rather than proactively. When concerns were raised, I felt met with defensiveness, which discouraged open communication. Although there was a short period of improvement, this did not last.
Most care staff were kind but clearly overstretched. Activities were rare, with little structured engagement or outings. My mum, who has Alzheimer's, was often taken to her room for making noise, which is part of her condition. Information in our SAR made me feel this was viewed as an issue rather than part of her care needs, suggesting a lack of person-centred care.
The stress and lack of support left me feeling that we failed our mum by keeping her there as long as we did.

My dad has settled well into Foxley House, each member of staff has been welcoming, understanding and extremely caring of his physical and emotional needs. They have communicated well with all family members, have recognised his personality and encouraged him in maintaining an active and fun day to
day routine. I have found my visits to be welcoming, enjoyable, and reassuring. I could not fault the staff's professionalism and commitment.

My mum has been in Foxley House for nearly 2 years. I can't thank all the staff enough for their kindness. Everyone is lovely, and nothing is too much trouble. They go above and beyond, and my mum loves them all like family. The activities are amazing, and Annie, the coordinator, arranges fabulous pasties.
They are the highlight of the month.

My mum has been a resident in Foxley for just over a year and a half and over this time we have come to get to know the staff on a personal basis and in all cases they have become not just carers but friends. I can say that all the staff genuinely care about the residents and the standard of care is
second to none in a difficult situation they are giving my mum the best quality of life possible. The comfort that gives her family is priceless to any family in this difficult situation we would without hesitation recommend Foxley.

I am very happy that we chose this care home for my mum, it has a family feel about it, and I like that I know almost all of the other residents by name. I do feel that she does get the best care possible, and the carers do have a genuine bond with my mum. My daughter is 3 years old and she loves to
visit granny and feels quite at home when she arrives. All the staff know her by name too. I am so glad my mum is here.

I wish to record my family's appreciation to the wonderful staff at Foxley House.
Sadly, our mum passed away recently, but during mums 18 months stay she was wonderfully cared for. Without exception, every member of staff looked after mum with dignity, love and kindness and all went that "extra mile".
Putting a loved one into care is never a decision any family wishes to make. However, we can honestly say that we chose the "jewel in the crown" by selecting Foxley House.

Our family had a very stressful search to find a home in which my gran would be safe, happy and well cared for. After approaching countless care homes, I received a welcoming reply from the manager of Foxley House inviting us for a tour. After that, we knew this was exactly where we wanted my gran to
live. Residents are taken on trips to local establishments, there are regular singers and other forms of entertainment invited in, everyone’s birthdays/big occasions are celebrated, Christmas is made special and the list goes on. Whilst hairdressers, dentists, doctors and so on all visit the home as and when required. The key to its success is the staff, management and Foxcare admin who try their utmost to help support families and the residents. There are no agency staff and due to the small number of service users, it does have a family feel between staff, residents and wider families. I really cannot recommend it enough if you sadly like us need to consider a care home for a loved one.

I visit my friend, and this is just a great wee care home. When you go in, it's just so welcoming. The staff are just so helpful, cannot do enough for my friend or visitors. The day rooms are very spacious and kept so clean. Nice views. The staff interacts with everyone. A lovely stairwell when you
come into the hall. My friend gets her hair done and gets taken out on trips. I would highly recommend this home to anyone. First class all round.

My late father (he died age 90 in May of this year) was a resident of Foxley House for just over four years, from arrival (when his sole carer, his wife, after almost a decade, became too ill to continue) until his peaceful death there just over two weeks ago. He had vascular dementia, diabetes and
hypertension, yet despite becoming increasingly frail, led an ordered, calm existence thanks to the efforts of staff.
The manager of Foxley, and all the staff with whom I came in contact, cared for my father with kindness, compassion and attention to detail. They also supported me through this rather sad and daunting experience, with weekly updates, photos and other contact which was especially vital during lockdown.
Two of Dad's carers attended his funeral.
While no one would choose that a relation enters a care home, we would say, as a family, that Dad could not have been more fortunate, despite his frailty, to have been looked after with such kindness there, unto the very last.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.422)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.422) out of 10 for Foxley House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.547 for Foxley House is calculated as follows: ( (172 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (15 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 203 Ratings = 4.547
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Foxley House is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 23 registered maximum number of service users is 4.6, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
