Kirk House offers 24-hour care with privacy, independence and companionship whilst acknowledging each resident’s individuality. It is situated in the east of the city, approximately six miles from the centre of Belfast in a well-established residential area with a regular bus service and bus stops located close to Kirk House.

Kirk House is located on two floors and the second floor is easily reached by stairs or a centrally located passenger lift. Handrails and ramps are provided and corridors are suitable for wheelchair use. The grounds are laid out in lawns and flowerbeds, with patio and seating areas providing for ease of access.

A range of flatlets are available. Four of them have been designed for couples, two of which are suitable for disabled residents.

There are four communal living rooms with dining areas that are furnished and equipped to a comfortable standard. Each living room is situated beside a group of ten flatlets. This is to allow residents to eat and meet together in smaller groups and so keep Kirk House intimate and enable residents to retain their individual dignity and privacy.

It is Kirk House's aim to offer and maintain a warm, relaxed and homely environment, where residents view Kirk House as their home rather than somewhere they live because they may need help and support. This has been achieved by combining good accommodation with a responsible and flexible personal care service.

Kirk House has now adapted one corridor of flatlets into 'Memory Lane', providing care for people living with dementia. This corridor of nine flatlets which are the same size and layout as the flats in the main building, have been refurbished with design features to support research-based approaches for people with dementia. The staff team have completed specialist Dementia Care training.

Kirk House provides a wonderful service that promotes independence while having the security of staff in attendance 24 hours and meals provided. In my experience, the staff engage with my mother with kindness, patience and humour, which means a lot to her and makes all the difference to her sense of
worth, dignity and general quality of life. The managers are also patient with family members and the staff are polite and friendly (we can be a pain at times). I think there has been a change of chef and I sense that the menu and food available has improved. Communication is good. Some of the rules during Covid that in effect have restricted liberty, seem illogical and unnecessary, but I understand these may have been imposed from elsewhere and the staff has worked hard to prevent the spread of illness.

I would highly recommend Kirk House, my mother has been a resident for nearly 3 years, the staff have been excellent in looking after all mum's needs along with keeping her involved in all the activities. She has felt like part of an extended family and the staff have made myself and my brother feel
very supported and very welcome at every visit. I would like to thank everyone for all their care and attention.

My mum has been a resident in Kirk House now for four years. The staff have been excellent in identifying and caring for her needs and making her feel at home. The care manager and her team have conducted themselves brilliantly throughout the pandemic, thus ensuring the health and safety of residents. Every effort has been made to facilitate visits by family members, communication has been excellent and individual enquiries dealt with efficiently. In particular,
the roll-out of the vaccination programme has been first class. I am confident that my mother is in good hands and have no hesitation in recommending Kirk House as an exceptional care home.

I have been so thankful that my mum has been in Kirk House during this covid pandemic. She has been settled and cared for. They have great ensuite bedrooms and bright spaces. I feel the management have done a lot to enable family contact by building visiting pods and enabling the care partner scheme.
I find the staff friendly and appreciate the efforts to care for those with dementia.

We had Kirk House as our number one care home in East Belfast when we were trying to place our granny. We have found it caring, supportive and progressive - especially during this pandemic year. The staff and management have gone over and above what they needed to do, making sure that our family member
was safe and finding creative ways to allow us to continue seeing her, even if through a window! The home is clean, comfortable, the staff are friendly and we appreciate their humanity and empathy with our gran.

I have been here only a few weeks, but find all personnel courteous and helpful. The food is very good, in fact we get nearly too much. But then at my age and lack of outdoor activity, my appetite is not so keen. I am a little hard of hearing and find some of the foreign staff hard to make out - but
they are very patient with me. To date, I have no grounds of complaint on any aspect of the care provided. One thing I find wrong is excessive use of lighting during daylight. Bad carbon footprint.

My mother has lived in Kirk House now for the last 4 years and I have nothing but praise for the manager and her team for the care and support that Mum receives.
Although she is now showing quite a few signs of dementia my mum is still treated with great dignity and respect by all the staff she has
contact with.
I would definitely recommend Kirk House for anybody having to consider the anguishing step of putting an elderly relative into care.

The team at Kirk House are always really great with my gran nothing is ever a problem the food is Fantastic. It's very clean inside and has lovely gardens. They always double check when I go into the building and I think that's great for safety and security. They are always doing activities with her

We are all so thankful our relative got a place here when she did. She has vascular dementia but settled in well and the staff are all amazing so kind and patient, pleasant, helpful and friendly. Kirk House is truly a home from home. There are lots of activities and outings and the residents have a
say in all that goes on. The relatives meetings are helpful too and the staff listen to any concerns or ideas we might have. Everyone, residents and friends/relatives are treated with respect.

Sharon Mcilroy is the Residential Manager for Kirk House. Sharon is part of the Kirk House family, having worked her way up to managerial positions over a number of years. Her excellent reputation saw her seconded to our Copelands residential home to assist in developing core services at that new location. With the appointment of a permanent manager there, Sharon has now returned in 2023 to take up the manager role at Kirk House- a decision that has been warmly received by residents and staff alike.
