Kirk House offers 24-hour care with privacy, independence and companionship whilst acknowledging each resident’s individuality. It is situated in the east of the city, approximately six miles from the centre of Belfast in a well-established residential area with a regular bus service and bus stops located close to Kirk House.

Kirk House is located on two floors and the second floor is easily reached by stairs or a centrally located passenger lift. Handrails and ramps are provided and corridors are suitable for wheelchair use. The grounds are laid out in lawns and flowerbeds, with patio and seating areas providing for ease of access.

A range of flatlets are available. Four of them have been designed for couples, two of which are suitable for disabled residents.

There are four communal living rooms with dining areas that are furnished and equipped to a comfortable standard. Each living room is situated beside a group of ten flatlets. This is to allow residents to eat and meet together in smaller groups and so keep Kirk House intimate and enable residents to retain their individual dignity and privacy.

It is Kirk House's aim to offer and maintain a warm, relaxed and homely environment, where residents view Kirk House as their home rather than somewhere they live because they may need help and support. This has been achieved by combining good accommodation with a responsible and flexible personal care service.

Kirk House has now adapted one corridor of flatlets into 'Memory Lane', providing care for people living with dementia. This corridor of nine flatlets which are the same size and layout as the flats in the main building, have been refurbished with design features to support research-based approaches for people with dementia. The staff team have completed specialist Dementia Care training.

I have been a resident in here since January 2023. As I had lived in Cherry Valley for about 50 years, I was glad not to leave the area. Kirk House being residential offered me independent living, help when needed given thoughtfully and willingly. Kirk House gives us plenty of company, but privacy as
well in our rooms. There are plenty of activities. The food, cleaning and support from staff are excellent, and as there is a meeting for us all taken by management each week where no subject is banned, we can have our say about all aspects of the home. I am so glad I chose to come here.

Kirk House provides excellent care. The home is always warm. The staff do their best for the residents. Food is fresh and tasty. The flatlets themselves could do with an upgrade of kitchenettes and shower rooms. The grounds at times need attention. In the summer the hanging baskets were beautiful. The
quality of the cleaning of the rooms varies from time to time. I think this may be staff-related (ie lack of).

Mum has been in Kirk House for just over four years. The facilities are excellent and the care in Memory Lane for residents with dementia is second to none. Staff are very caring and helpful and have been supportive to us as a family also.
The set up of the home with a communal lounge in separate corridors
provides a family atmosphere and there are plenty of opportunities to join in activities with residents from across the home in the common room or outside garden area, including church services, musical events, craft activities and even garden parties!

Mum moved into Memory Lane November 2024. Her Flatlet is lovely. It has been personalised with furniture photos and ornaments from her home. Mum likes to sit in the Dayroom as she loves company. She enjoys the Chair Exercises, Church Services and getting her nails and hair done every week. The Staff
are brilliant. They look after Mum and she is well cared for. Mum feels safe and we have peace of mind knowing she is safe. They also look after us. Cups of tea in Dining room or if Mum has visitors in her Flatlet they bring tea. I would definitely recommend Kirk House.

Kirk House has kept our mum alive. She has been a resident for over 7 years and she has been very happy. When she first arrived she loved being cared for, and food provided, and she loved her independence too. She would regularly walk to a particular place and back. She joined in many of the different
activities and made such good friends. The Kirk House staff became her friends.
At age 96, she sadly needs more care than Kirk House can provide. You know that this is such a great residential home when the staff cry when a resident leaves. Kirk House is family. I would highly recommend it to anyone considering residential care.

I have been visiting Kirk House for 14 years and for me, it is a truly wonderful home. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The place is amacuatly clean. It's a home that I would want to live in myself in my twilight years. I simply cannot speak highly enough of this home and every person I have encountered
there. I'm also greatly impressed with how the home does so much in terms of activities for the residents and also in collecting for various charities. Many thanks to you all.

My mum has been a resident in Kirk House for nearly two years. In the last few months, she has moved to the memory lane corridor and has settled in very well. She has a lovely room and speaks well of everyone. She loves the food and the common living area where she has company. The staff are very kind
and caring and there is a lovely family atmosphere. I know my mum feels safe there and I have great peace knowing that she is being well cared for and I am very grateful that she is in such a good care home.

Kirk House is a gem. Staff are caring, kind, professional and supportive of residents and their families. Flatlets are a real home.
My mother has been very happy here for a year, it is her home. She loves the staff, her friends and her flatlet. She enjoys the different activities and the community

Kirk House has cared for my mother for four years, all through the pandemic and the care she gets every day is second to none. My brother and I are alerted straight away should they have any concerns, no matter how small.
When she reached the age of 100, Kirk House very kindly offered to let the family
celebrate together on the premises and nothing was too much bother for the staff.
I would highly recommend Kirk House to anyone looking for a very comfortable, spotless, well-run nursing home with tremendous staff.

I could not speak highly enough of the care provided by the staff for my mother in the last 5 years. It has been superb. My mother has been a resident at Kirk House for several years and has been very happy living there. She regularly comments on how well she is looked after by the staff and says that she would not still be alive (age 101 at time of writing) if she were not living there. They have had tremendous difficulties
over the past two years with Covid restrictions but have managed to cope with the stresses of that well. The residents have their own self contained room but also socialise with the other residents at mealtimes and for the various activities that occur daily within the home.

My grandmother has been a resident at Kirk House for 6 months. Every single interaction I have had with staff has been positive, they have treated my gran with compassion, care and respect. The home is clean, structured and has a personal/friendly feel to it. The staff are attentive and have brought
issues we would not have noticed to myself and my gran's other care partners attention. My gran was on the waiting list for quite a while, but well worth the wait.

I can’t recommend Kirk House highly enough. The home has a lovely atmosphere, it is bright and the rooms are some of the best I have seen. The staff are helpful and take great care of the residents. We know that our family member is in safe hands, known and well looked after which brings us so much
reassurance. Generally, it does feel to be best for residents who still have a degree of independence and autonomy (although it also has Memory Lane which is designed for residents with Dementia).

Sharon Mcilroy is the Residential Manager for Kirk House. Sharon is part of the Kirk House family, having worked her way up to managerial positions over a number of years. Her excellent reputation saw her seconded to our Copelands residential home to assist in developing core services at that new location. With the appointment of a permanent manager there, Sharon has now returned in 2023 to take up the manager role at Kirk House- a decision that has been warmly received by residents and staff alike.
