Kirk House offers 24-hour care with privacy, independence and companionship whilst acknowledging each resident’s individuality. It is situated in the east of the city, approximately six miles from the centre of Belfast in a well-established residential area with a regular bus service and bus stops located close to Kirk House.

Kirk House is located on two floors and the second floor is easily reached by stairs or a centrally located passenger lift. Handrails and ramps are provided and corridors are suitable for wheelchair use. The grounds are laid out in lawns and flowerbeds, with patio and seating areas providing for ease of access.

A range of flatlets are available. Four of them have been designed for couples, two of which are suitable for disabled residents.

There are four communal living rooms with dining areas that are furnished and equipped to a comfortable standard. Each living room is situated beside a group of ten flatlets. This is to allow residents to eat and meet together in smaller groups and so keep Kirk House intimate and enable residents to retain their individual dignity and privacy.

It is Kirk House's aim to offer and maintain a warm, relaxed and homely environment, where residents view Kirk House as their home rather than somewhere they live because they may need help and support. This has been achieved by combining good accommodation with a responsible and flexible personal care service.

Kirk House has now adapted one corridor of flatlets into 'Memory Lane', providing care for people living with dementia. This corridor of nine flatlets which are the same size and layout as the flats in the main building, have been refurbished with design features to support research-based approaches for people with dementia. The staff team have completed specialist Dementia Care training.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
The home is warm, welcoming, bright, airy and clean. Staff go to great lengths to ensure all residents have all their needs met - physical, emotional and spiritual. They respect both residents and relatives/carers of residents and make every effort to include them in decision-making as well as in the
regular activities of the home. Staff and management are largely forward thinking and keen to innovate, with particular reference to inter-generational work and dementia friendly initiative within the community. It is a peaceful and calm environment.

Sharon Mcilroy is the Residential Manager for Kirk House. Sharon is part of the Kirk House family, having worked her way up to managerial positions over a number of years. Her excellent reputation saw her seconded to our Copelands residential home to assist in developing core services at that new location. With the appointment of a permanent manager there, Sharon has now returned in 2023 to take up the manager role at Kirk House- a decision that has been warmly received by residents and staff alike.
