Only two weeks: the evening meal is pretty grim and laundry seems rather chaotic. Otherwise very happy with the staff and care my husband receives.

Very rude management staff, no respect for visitors, spoken to like children. Two female staff very aggressive when spoken to about concerns. During the last two months visiting the manageress has been hostile and very rude.
PS - there are two very good members of staff.

I was really anxious about mum going into respite care for three weeks but the overall experience has been very positive. Mum was really looked after and the staff really went the extra mile in looking after mum. I would definitely recommend Farm Lane. Thanks to all for caring for mum. Truly appreciated.

I find the staff very good, always there to help just a few minor details like making sure people's glasses are being worn. Hearing aid turned on. We leave notes for radio to be turned to a certain station. Otherwise great.

When I viewed Farm Lane I wanted somewhere, clean, fresh smelling, friendly and with a comfortable homely feel where my Dad would be well looked after. Farm Lane achieved this.
Staff were always respectful, kind and treated my Dad with dignity. They always took the time to inform us and answer any
questions we had about what he had been like throughout the day,
On several occasions, staff would be singing with him as they were helping him in his room. I realised that the staff were doing an amazing job in difficult circumstances and on the odd occasion when it was harder to find someone it was probably because they were needing to give another person the same level of care my Dad needed (he sometimes needed 3 carers to assist him).
There is a weekly programme of activities but I don't know much about them.
The lounge, dining area and gardens are beautiful communal spaces for residents to enjoy. Tea, coffee and snacks are readily available.
Very happy to recommend Farm Lane.

My mother has dementia and is being beautifully looked after at Farm Lane. It was not an easy start, which I know must have severely tested the staff but they all were so professional and showed nothing but kindness, patience and great understanding toward both my mother and to us as her family.
The
home is obviously well run with great attention to detail and it would be nice if the correct manager's name could be put on the website.
My mother is settling in now and as a family, we are very happy that she is being so well cared for by such dedicated and helpful individuals.

Generally a good experience. Staff are caring and professional. Rooms are spacious and to a good standard. More activities would be welcomed.

At first, my dad was more agitated and confused about where he was and all the new faces, but after a while, he has settled in as best he can with his old traits of bouts of anger and calmness being managed and understood by the caring staff who have grown to understand his moods.
His personal care
is being met as best it can be. His eating is difficult and he prefers to eat later to when meals are served and staff have recognised this. Opticians will have to come to him.

They are professional, they all work as a team, they are kind. My brother was cared for in this home until he passed. He enjoyed the care and attention of the nursing staff, males and females alike.
Everyone came in with their own skill and personality and he loved the interaction.
I have nothing

I am a friend of a resident who celebrated his 100th birthday in Farm Lane care home on 29th August 2017. I am delighted to say that the staff at the home were so helpful in the lead up to the day and on the day itself when there was a party for over 50 guests and residents. Food and drink and a big
cake were provided by staff who also arranged for 2 mounted Met Police horses to visit as well as the local nursery children who sang Happy Birthday in 3 different languages.

Many complimentary comments were made summed up by one "The home is superb and the staff very friendly. I've put my name down for a bed in due course". It was a very special day which could not have happened without the help and support of the manager and all her staff.

The staff are quite excellent they care and provide dignified support to the residents.
It is difficult to pick out one member of staff as special as they are all so very good and special.
The facilities are enjoyable particularly the garden which is a joy, particularly when the sun shines.
My only
disappointment is the piano if I had the opportunity I would have played you a song or two.

Although standards have improved I still feel that residents are alone in the main sitting room (1st floor) for a period of time. There always seems to be a recruiting programme and agency staff. Although my mother's daily routine is on her bedroom wall, when I visit she doesn't always have her dentures
in. The cleanliness and dietary needs are excellent.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Marketing Support Administrator at Farm LaneThank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. In regards to your mother’s routine, I’m very sorry to hear your concerns and apologise that we have fallen below our usual high standards in this instance – we take feedback very seriously and will speak with the care team immediately about this. In terms of staffing, we always ensure we have the right number of people in place to provide the levels of care we need to deliver a safe and high-quality service for residents, 24 hours a day, seven days a week – on occasion, particularly to cover holidays and staff illness, we may have to use agency staff. However, our dedicated recruitment team work hard across all Care UK homes to find new team members for homes with the correct knowledge, experience and friendly disposition we require in our team members. Thank you again for your feedback and kind words, and of course please do contact any other members of the senior team at the home if there is anything else we can help with now or in the future.

Very satisfied with nurses/carers. Very unsatisfied with the physio. I believe no improvement was made due to everything being a "rush".
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Marketing Support Administrator at Farm LaneWe’re very grateful for your feedback and are delighted with the positive comments and scores for Farm Lane, particularly for the care team at the home. The care that our relative received from this home, especially within the past month has been appalling. There are only two members of staff who have shown compassion and care towards our aunty and they are a member of the kitchen staff and the receptionist for this we are truly grateful!
Perhaps these
two members of staff should manage the home.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Marketing Support Administrator at Farm LaneWe’re incredibly sorry to hear of your experience – this is certainly not reflective of the high standard of care we strive to offer at Farm Lane. A senior member of the team at Care UK will be in touch to discuss your concerns with you, and of course please let us know at any time now or in the future if you have any issues or suggestions for how we might be able to improve. The refurbishment of Farm Lane care home is bright and cheerful, as are the always welcoming staff. The dementia unit in particular, has been sensitively decorated, with differently coloured doors that are easy to distinguish. The activities programme has also received a boost. The range of activities
includes cooking and gardening, the home has both a roof garden and large outdoor garden, where the annual barbeque and open days are great fun. Most unusually, residents spiritual needs are catered for by sessions involving Montessori-style story-telling and worship. These innovations have created a remarkably calm environment that fosters the well-being of everybody.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.979)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.979) out of 10 for Farm Lane is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.371 for Farm Lane is calculated as follows: ( (98 Excellents x 5) + (35 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 151 Ratings = 4.371
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.608 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Farm Lane is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2. 11 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.2 = 0.833
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

Before my current role, I was deputy manager, so I feel privileged to have been promoted.

It is incredibly rewarding to lead a team I’m really proud of.

The most important aspect of my role is to ensure residents are happy, safe and well cared for. It’s wonderful watching the team work well together with dedication and compassion. Seeing the positive difference we make in people’s lives keeps me motivated.

I’ve been part of Care UK since 2006. I chose to work for the organisation because it truly values people – both residents and colleagues. I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside fantastic colleagues over the years and have been supported throughout my career.

To be a home manager, you need a combination of compassion, dedication and strong leadership. It’s important to genuinely care about the well-being of residents and to be able to support and motivate a team. Each new day brings a fresh set of challenges, so it’s essential to have strong problem-solving skills too.

Patience, empathy and excellent communication skills are also key as you need to build relationships with residents, their families and colleagues so that everyone feels valued and heard.

I enjoy spending my free time with family, listening to music, reading, and travelling.
