Whitefarm Lodge is home to my very distantly related cousin and of all the care homes I have had occasion to visit over the last 50 years Whitefarm Lodge is the nicest, kindest, most caring and best run. Thank you.

The care home has a genuine warmth about it from the staff and senior managers even down to the cleaners and workmen.
You feel reassured that the residents are being well looked after and treated as an individual.
The staff are welcoming and so helpful and always speak to the residents with care and concern.
The Manager is visible and it's lovely to see him getting 'hands on' with some of the activities.
Activity in whatever form is vital to those even with dementia and it's good to see such a variety of activities
Having the decor refreshed and updated has helped tremendously too.

One suggestion, but appreciate it's difficult with ratios is either in summer more access to outside, or allowing their visitor to perhaps take people out in a wheelchair?

Whitefarm Lodge was unknown to the family until my mother was moved there from hospital. It seems to meet all the requirements my mother needs because of her mobility and dementia issues. Although it is quite large the fact that residents are divided up into small groups is a big plus.
Every member of staff is wonderful and very helpful.

The family are very happy with the move from hospital and it is likely to be a long term colusion

The Care this facility provides to my mother is outstanding. Having worked in a health care setting for decades I know what constituents a good working environment. Since my mum has been in the home near on 7 years, other than an occasional new face the same team members and manager have remained. This shows good management and staff wellbeing must be a consideration as it shows in their work. They look after my mum exceptionally well and I never worry when I leave her. Top tier

My first visit to Whitefarm Lodge as my mother is a new resident.
I am happy to convey a positive experience and left the home reassured that my mother was in safe hands.
The home is clean, warm and secure and staffed by some truly lovely people. Those I engaged with were softly spoken, smart, clean and compassionate.
Upon arrival, I was made welcome and the staff member immediately recognised my mother’s name. This is despite her having only been there for a week.
The home was peaceful and the residents I saw all looked at peace and relaxed.
I took my mother into the garden. She loved the plants and seemed proud of her new home.
My mother’s room was freshly cleaned and had plenty of daylight.
The lunchtime menu looked good and had sensible choices.
My mother soon told me how she enjoyed having porridge for breakfast.
I was fortunate enough to meet the manager.

His persona helps explain why the staff are happy and why Whitefarm Lodge wholly deserves this positive review.

The team at Whitefarm Lodge are amazing, not only did they care for my Nan's every need they also took the time to spend time with her. Her room was always clean and well presented, smelt fresh too.

My Nan lived in Whitefarm Lodge from December 2022 to June 2023 and they were some of the best years of her entire life, we had our relative back. The care team empowered her, she was happy and engaged in activities.

The team always kept in contact with me and had a great deal of empathy. When we visited we were always spoken to, they took the time to engage with us as a family. We were always offered refreshments and biscuits when visiting. I can not recommend this care home enough it completely changed my views of care homes.

I have been visiting regularly now for over two months and have always been impressed with the reception I get from all the staff it makes me so confident that my loved one is being taken care of. I receive regular updates on what's been going on and have been very impressed with how hard everyone works to make the home a safe and clean environment for their residents.

I have found the carers and nursing staff caring and professional in their work. My husband knows who the carers are and was and knows that he feels safe around personal care and transfers from bed to chair. Nursing staff maintain regular checks and monitoring, and his medication is given at regular times, particularly at supper time when I'm visiting. On a slightly more negative note, I feel lately that staff are under more pressure to complete their tasks, seems less staff. The nursing staff helping in the kitchen as the dishwasher is out of action.

Mother has been a resident in Whitefarm Lodge for a few months now, which was a big step for her as she copes with memory issues, as many do. She has slowly settled and is well cared for. Staff quickly understood Mum's situation and have been kind, gentle and encouraging. The home is clean, bright and calm. The food is good. The rooms are a little small and tired but on the list for redecoration.

Our dad went into Whitefarm Lodge Care Home two years ago. With vascular dementia and has 24-hour care, I can't wish for a better place than he is in now. The management team and carers that care for him, they are all kind, patient, show a lot of patience in what they do. They find the time to chat to you, when visiting, always keep you informed and up to date, from medication, changes to food and care plan. They make him smile, talk to him, even when he can't talk back. I am grateful for all that they do, I come away knowing that he is well looked after. Thank you Whitefarm Lodge.

My review is based on the last two years of visiting Dad. As nothing has changed, the staff are lovely, including the management, dinner ladies and laundry ladies. I see them all, everyone greets me very happily and a professional team that cares for their residents and their families. Thank you everyone at Whitefarm Lodge.

I cannot speak highly enough about the quality of care and support my mother received from the wonderful staff at Whitefarm Lodge during her temporary residence there. Without exception, every single member of staff from management down, treated her with such a high level of competence and kindness. This was also extended to me during my visits. I left her every day knowing that she was in the best possible hands which certainly eradicated any concerns I had. The facilities and the food were top quality but it was the staff that really made my mother's stay there a comfortable and enjoyable one. We cannot thank the whole team at Whitefarm Lodge enough for the excellent service provided and would strongly recommend anyone looking for the ideal care facility for their loved ones takes a look at Whitefarm Lodge.

My mum has dementia and could no longer live alone. We were very cautious about moving her into a care home but we could no longer assist with all her ongoing needs ourselves. We were immediately impressed with Whitefarm Lodge. It is in a lovely location, the care home itself is immaculate, it is welcoming, very friendly, spacious with a lovely garden.

The food is cooked freshly with a very varied menu, my mum is pescatarian and has fresh fish most days. Most importantly I cannot express enough how wonderful the staff are here. They are warm and caring and lots of fun, My mum is treated with the utmost dignity and her personal care is second to none. Her needs are taken care of and she looks lovely whenever I see her. My mum is very happy here and as a family, we are so very grateful to everyone here. I have absolute peace of mind now that she is in the best place. I highly recommend Whitefarm Lodge.

Shane Cosgrove
Shane CosgroveJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2004

I have many years’ experience of working in residential care, having worked for Richmond’s social services department from 1994 up until the time I joined Care UK in 2001. I later became manager of Whitefarm Lodge in 2004. The thing I like most about my job is the day-to-day contact with residents. I enjoy being a part of their lives and always make time to sit down for a chat and a good catch up with what everyone’s been up to.

We always support residents in whatever they want to do – and they often achieve fantastic things. For example, residents were concerned about the state of the pavements in the local area. So, over time, they raised awareness of this problem with the council and with the local paper too. Following the newspaper coverage, the council made the repairs that residents had been campaigning for.

Something else that I’m really proud of is the way that a group of residents with dementia worked with children from Grey Court School in Richmond and a nearby art gallery to produce a series of wonderful artworks. The theme of the artworks was ‘reminiscence’ and they included drawings, images, text and other multimedia elements. Both groups got a great deal out of the project, learning more about each other’s lives and understanding their different perspectives – and the artworks were very impressive too.
