I was very impressed when visiting my sister. The staff are very polite and helpful. Her room is clean and homely. It was lovely to visit and sit in the garden. Covid rules are strict but necessary. One niggle I have is 25 minutes is not long enough. My sister is quite happy and settled.

Reply from Wendy Blackmun, Home Manager at The Windmill Care Centre

What a pleasure to receive such lovely feedback about our home and I’m so glad that your sister is happy living with us. Our garden is such a joy to our residents and we feel so very lucky to have such a welcoming and relaxing space for everyone to enjoy, right in the middle of Slough. Thank you...

It’s such a relief to have my mum at The Windmill Care Centre. I’m not based in the UK so I need to have my mum at a place I can rely on and trust; a place with a high standard of care and Windmill fits that bill. I can tell they care about her and treat her well - they know her quirks and they clearly treat her like one of their family. My mum is happy there. The staff always have time for my questions. I’m so glad she is there - a compassionate, caring home.

Our dad was admitted to The Windmill in very difficult circumstances. The staff went out of their way to reassure us and to help our dad acclimatise. We have found them to be very professional, friendly, caring and compassionate. Nursing staff are hugely committed to preserving the dignity of those in their care, and admin/management are both efficient and very humane. There is a lovely atmosphere at the home.

Windmill Centre is not somewhere I would recommend to friends or family. The manager is very rude. Some staff are kind however this is based on personal preference.

As a home dealing with patients in challenging situations, you would believe that the staff would be passionate about their role however unfortunately not. I have been totally shocked at the lack of compassion and care from the home.

Reply from Eileen Coad, Regional Director at The Windmill Care Centre

When Mum had to go into care we were unable to choose the care home due to the virus situation. However, we needn't have worried as The Windmill Care home have been amazing in looking after Mum. She has early Alzheimer's so they are very patient with her and always try to keep her interested in what's going on in the home. We don't have to worry about her now and she seems happy in her new surroundings. The food always looks good, especially the cakes, which Mum loves. I would certainly recommend the home to anybody who has an elderly relative.

I have only visited The Windmill Care Centre twice so not enough visits to form an opinion. However, both times I was met by courteous care staff who explained the procedures in place for visiting during the Covid epidemic. PPE was applied and I was monitored at all times.

The friend I visited was happy there and joined in various activities. Her room was tidy and clean as were the corridors and lift. Staff attending to my friend were very kind and courteous and had a good rapport with her.

It's a very good home, it has improved since the manager took over.
My only recommendation is the WiFi code should be displayed in the foyer, as staff are too busy to give details and it would save families data, and give access to people who do not have data like elderly relatives.

Also, residents could be encouraged by staff to use social media ie Facebook, Zoom etc...

My Mum has been in the Windmill for 8 years now and I have seen several different companies running it during that time. Of them all, this is definitely the best. They have invested time and money on making it very homely, refurbishing throughout, and have put together a great team of staff that have got to know and care for the residents on a more personal level. It is so good for the residents to get to know and get used to the same members of staff, looking after them consistently as opposed to outside agency staff being used which was the case before. The Manager has been a great asset to the home and is very approachable and helpful. The staff on Mum's floor know and care for her very well, I know that she is being looked after and, if there is a problem with my mum, I will get a phone call from a member of staff and that puts my mind at rest. The many planned activities play a big part in the resident's well being, as does the home being kept clean and tidy. Thank you to all staff.

My brother in law has spent over three years at The Windmill. The first two years weren't good, the turnover of staff was enormous, not good for residents or families.
However, over the last year, things improved for the better. My only complaint being management. No communication skills, compassion, locked away in the office, gives one the impression - do not disturb, not interested.

Walking the floors, stopping for a casual chat with residents or families occasionally works wonders and forms a caring bond.

The Windmill Care Centre really does feel like a home for its residents. My nan loved the entertainment and day trips that were arranged by staff and was always treated with dignity, even on the night she passed away. The staff are always friendly and welcoming to family members and visitors and always make sure they give 100% to all residents, it really is a brilliant care centre.
