Overall Experience
My mother has lived at Harwood House for well over 2 years. The staff are and have always been fantastic, caring, understanding and professional. They have such a positive outlook, know their residents very well and have a good sense of humour. The home has provided a variety of activities to cater to the different interests of the residents, ranging from music, quizzes, creative art, visits from children and farms, and social and local history, to name a few. There is an excellent wellbeing team, who help Mum to look and feel her best. The management and nursing teams are always ready to listen and discuss any concerns that crop up. There is a very low turnover of staff.

Throughout this year the safety and health of the residents has been the most important factor; we have been able to see Mum whenever possible, which has been so appreciated, and I am looking forward to my Christmas visit. There is a wonderful calendar of events planned for December, as is the case for every month.

Very happy with the care provided by staff to my mother who have adapted well to her changing needs (no mobility and vascular dementia) and are always kind, supportive and caring and talk to her. She is always lovely and clean and staff are patient when having to feed her and move her.
Wish occasionally that she could be taken out other than just the garden but as my mother has to be hoisted and cannot really support herself in a wheelchair, this might be difficult.

Activities are therefore limited but she can observe.

In March 2018 my mother’s home was rendered uninhabitable following a water leak from a burst pipe. At the same time, my mother suffered poor health as a result of an acute infection. My brother and I urgently needed help and when we called Harwood House our mother was assessed the same day and a room was found for her within 24 hours. The reception she received was first class. The infection was quickly dealt with and after a few weeks she looked better than she had done for some considerable time. My mother initially wanted to be able to return home as soon as possible but she has now said that she is very happy at Harwood House and would like to stay. She feels comfortable, secure and well cared for. She also enjoys the social contact and the excellent activities programme.

My mother’s quality of life at Harwood House is considerably better now than it was when she was living alone in her own home.

I love to come and see my friend. She always looks so happy and the girls are so kind and lovely with her. It's a lovely home and I always tell all my family I would put my mother in Harwood House if we need to. I know she would love it and I know she would be looked after, the staff are excellent and management are the best.

I visit Harwood House on a regular basis and have done for over ten years. I have always been impressed by the very high standards and overall atmosphere that Harwood House is now the 'home' of the residents and that every need must be met on an individual basis.

The palliative care my mother received in the last days of her life was exceptional. It was a great comfort to me that she was looked after with such care. All the staff, without exception, were compassionate and concerned and at the same time efficient, calling for the doctor, providing her with medication and looking after her physical needs to keep her clean and comfortable. They all went the extra mile to ease her passing after she had suffered two strokes which may have been caused by her cancer. We visited every day for a period of ten days at all different times and were welcomed, offered drinks and even hugged. The nurses and staff were always available to discuss how my mother was. On the day of her death, my sister and I were phoned as we all live over an hours drive away to come to the home and we were able to spend the last two hours of her life holding and talking to her until she peacefully just stopped breathing. Our grateful thanks to everyone involved in her care.

I regularly observe the delivery of outstanding care and genuine compassion towards the residents. The staff working at Harwood House 'make the difference', my experience is that they all contribute to the effective and safe environment that I trust my mother to be in. The staff tailor their approach to the needs and or capacity of the resident they are assisting. I am aware that the majority of staff are long serving, this allows rapport and trust to be built, ensuring residents are comfortable with those staff caring for them. My mum's quality of life has improved substantially since taking up occupancy at Harwood House. I could not have asked for any better.

Overall I think Harwood House is very worth while including on a short list of care homes worthy of consideration. From the personal experience I have had in them caring for my Aunt and Uncle I would highly recommend the home. The level of care and general facilities are excellent, they really do have the residents welfare at the core of what they do. Please go and see for your self.

Harwood House is without doubt 'gracious living'. It does what it says on the tin and provides residents with a place they can call home. There is no better accolade than to hear your loved one say every time you see them or ring them... "I'm so happy here!" I only wished we lived nearer and could play a more active roll in the life of the Home. It is a great relief that even though we live a distance away, we can totally rely on the staff to provide the best level of care and attention. Thank you.

Harwood House has looked after mum for the last 18 months, showing her the upmost kindness, support and dignity. Everyone who works here is faultless with a few care workers going above and beyond to make mum feel at home. Mum has vascular dementia so life is full of challenges, but these are dealt with in the most professional way. I couldn't recommend then enough. Thank you.

This care home with nursing is like a 5 star hotel and the nursing care is 5 star plus! The attention, kindness, concern and professional approach is first class. The rooms are very homely and have beautiful views and outlook. Lovely gardens to enjoy, especially with friends and family. There are activities going on every day, stimulating, creative and imaginative. Such a warm welcoming environment.
