Kingfishers is a beautifully located care home in the scenic town of Bourne End in the county of Buckinghamshire.

They offer long and short term residential, respite and convalescent care, with a special interest in helping people with all levels of dementia.

The home has an excellent team of Activity Coordinators who ensure that each resident has a good variety of activities to support them, give them a real sense of involvement, and enhance their daily health and wellbeing. With the home's mobile friendly vehicle, the sky is your limit. The Team would love to be part of your journey in exploring what the local area has to offer.

The Chefs at Kingfishers take special care in providing a varied seasonal menu using fresh produce daily and taking into consideration each resident's individual dietary requirements and preferences.

My husband's two-week respite care at Kingfishers was a great success, so much so that he will be rethinking for further stays, particularly as they were able to call on their in-house GP when a medical issue occurred, which they dealt with kindly, promptly and efficiently by him and the nurses.

My father was a resident of Kingfisher and they cared for him when his Parkinson's disease had become severe until the end of his life. He was always treated with great dignity and respect by the staff and kept comfortable. Now my mother is a resident of Kingfisher. She too is well looked after and
happy with the care that she gets.

Have not got satisfactory answers from the care home manager, who I have emailed and spoken to several times. Need to speak to someone higher. Not happy with lots of things. Do not feel my mother is getting the correct treatment.

My dear father called Kingfishers his home for the final year of his life. Suffering from an insidious, slowly progressing case of Parkinson's, he truly needed the support and care afforded by the home. He loved the staff. They were so kind to him and he really enjoyed speaking with them, everyone from
the nursing staff to the tea ladies. He was free to come and go in the early months, but in time he was able to welcome his friends for morning coffee at his home. I particularly want to thank the nursing staff who became his advocates, fighting to get him the care he needed from the NHS when it was not forthcoming. My father's needs evolved over the 12 months and Kingfishers was up to the task of adapting to those needs. He was very happy there and knew he was in the right place.

A well-managed care home where my mother has been resident for five years. She is well looked after and joins in daily activities. The recent addition of a minibus has enabled trips out of the home. In particular, it enabled mum to attend her sister's funeral with the help of carers arranged by Kingfishers.

On Monday 30th January 2023, my mother needed paramedic assistance because she suddenly passed out. The ambulance arrived in good time, and the paramedics got to work. The help from the home was fantastic - first class. Everybody helped, and before long, my mother was ok. Very impressed with the way
the team at the home responded; it was an emergency, and each and every one of them treated it as such. The patience of the staff is to be admired.

My mum spent 3 and a bit weeks at Kingfishers for respite. She was understandably nervous to start with as this was her first experience in a care home, but the lovely staff soon eased her mind and she settled in really quickly. The home is very well run, and has a very friendly/calming atmosphere,
with activities put on to keep everyone occupied and entertained, the Jubilee party was particularly enjoyed by my mum. She was well treated and cared for by all of the team. Highly recommended.

Of course, looking to place a loved one in residential nursing care can be quite stressful and certainly a challenge. Having viewed several homes in the area, it was a delight when I walked into Kingfishers to discover such a happy, welcoming, caring environment.


My sister is always treated with

respect and dignity and I know she feels safe and protected by all the staff. The home is very well managed and she is very comfortable in her room, which is maintained to a very high standard of cleanliness. Everyone is so approachable and if an issue should arise it's dealt with swiftly and calmly.

What a fantastic jubilee party that The Salveco team at Kingfishers put on, it was magical.
My grandmother has been a resident since January 2021. Her upkeep and cleanliness are of a high standard. The staff are excellent and loving.

Kingfishers is in a delightful manor house with high ceilings, wood panelling and comfortable furniture in spacious public rooms. The welcoming hall and reception immediately makes one feel one is in a very friendly, homely place. During the day the home is buzzing with activity and warm friendships.
The gardens are a delight and beautifully kept with plenty of quality garden furniture to enhance the feeling of being cared for. Staff are exceptionally caring, friendly and helpful and as soon as one arrives one is welcomed as one of the family. There is a varied and fun activities programme if you wish and a quiet library to greet your visitors if you would like some privacy. The food is good and imaginary but it would be useful if a little bit more care were taken to ensure that particularly vulnerable patients choose suitable meals. My husband is not capable of making fast decisions and will go for the easy option. 5* with happy residents and happy staff.

My mother was sent to this home from hospital awaiting assessment. Whilst she was very unsettled we found the care to be excellent, with carers making a special effort to settle her in. All the staff are friendly, even the cleaner would pop in to have a chat and cheer Mum up. The home has a warm friendly
atmosphere and you can always see carers interacting with residents. The home is well led, with any queries being dealt with swiftly, and kitchen staff go out of their way to accommodate dietary needs.
The carers are rotated around the residents meaning they get to know everyone. We could not fault any of the carers and were particularly grateful to know that carers will regularly visit the rooms to ensure the resident is happy. We would have no hesitation in recommending this home to anyone.

Extremely caring and professional care home. My mum, who had dementia and was riddled with cancer, spent 6 weeks approx here before she sadly died. She came from hospital. One nurse, in particular, was amazing and treated Mum so caringly right up to the end. She was so so good with my family too. The
Kingfisher staff members were all tremendous. They gave Mum respect and unbelievably great care and we as a family could have not found a better place for Mum to peacefully pass away. Thank you so very much!

My career in health and social care began in 2010 when I chose to study Sociology and Social Work. I’ve always been passionate about understanding society's evolving needs and combining social services with research to address future challenges. This passion led me to pursue a Master's degree in Intelligence Analysis, which became a crucial foundation for my current role, helping me better understand societal vulnerabilities and assess the quality of care services.


Over the past 10+ years, I’ve gained extensive experience in balancing compassionate, person-centred care with strong leadership and clinical understanding. Working in both nursing homes and residential care settings, I realised how vital clinical knowledge is for truly meeting residents’ needs and delivering outstanding care. After qualifying as a nurse, I explored the hospital environment and contributed to meaningful healthcare projects across the UK. These included placements at Mount Vernon Hospital, Hillingdon Hospital, and Harefield Hospital, where I conducted my dissertation research in cardiology and the transplant sector.


My combined experience in both the public and private sectors has allowed me to build valuable partnerships between private care providers and NHS services across various boroughs.


Today, I am honoured to serve as Home Manager at Kingfishers. I am dedicated to leading our home toward achieving an Outstanding rating by adhering to CQC regulations, complying with all relevant legislation, and following our nursing home policies with the best interests of residents and their families in mind.


I am particularly passionate about dementia care and supporting complex nursing needs within adult care. Every day presents new challenges that inspire me and my team to strive for excellence. With over 25 years of experience spanning Administration, Public Relations, Human Resources, and Entrepreneurship, I bring a wealth of knowledge, adaptability, and passion to my role as Administrator at Kingfishers Care Home.


What I enjoy most about my position is the variety and meaningful interaction it brings every day. No two days are ever quite the same, and I find great satisfaction in supporting both the operational and human sides of the home. Whether I’m coordinating internal processes, assisting residents and families, or supporting the wider team, I strive to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the home.


I am, at heart, a people person. Building strong, positive relationships is something I value deeply. At Kingfishers, I feel fortunate to work in an environment where compassion, teamwork, and dedication are at the core of everything we do. Interacting daily with residents, relatives, and staff is one of the most rewarding parts of my role. It’s a privilege to be a small part of their lives and to contribute to the warm and caring culture we’ve built here.


Outside of work, I enjoy a rich and creative life. I’m married and a proud mother of two grown-up daughters and one adorable granddaughter. In my spare time, I enjoy learning French, sewing, and repurposing old furniture, which satisfies my love for creativity and reinvention.

My passion lies in creating meals that are not only nutritious and balanced but also familiar, comforting, and meaningful. From traditional favourites to seasonal treats, I work closely with our team to tailor menus to the unique preferences and dietary needs of our community.

Job Title: Housekeeping/Maintenance

With over a decade of hands-on experience in Care Homes, I have been proudly serving as a Maintenance Operative since June 2013. Throughout my career, I have developed a deep commitment to creating and maintaining safe, functional, and welcoming environments where residents, staff, and visitors feel comfortable and cared for.


My role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, from carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs, including plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, painting, decorating, and garden upkeep, to conducting regular inspections that help identify and address potential issues before they escalate. Whether it's a leaking tap or a faulty light fitting, I respond promptly and effectively to ensure minimal disruption to daily life within the home.


One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is being a reliable point of contact during emergencies, such as power outages or equipment failures. I take pride in remaining calm under pressure and acting swiftly to protect the safety and well-being of everyone in the facility. I also coordinate with external contractors when specialist expertise is needed, always ensuring that work is completed to high standards and in line with health and safety regulations.


In addition to my maintenance duties, I also hold the position of Head of Housekeeping, leading a dedicated domestic team. Together, we ensure that every corner of the home, from communal areas to individual resident rooms, is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation. We approach our work with sensitivity and respect, always mindful of the residents' privacy, dignity, and personal preferences.


My experience has taught me the value of teamwork, responsibility, and attention to detail, and I remain committed to upholding the quality of care and environment that every resident deserves. I bring not just skills, but dedication and heart to my work, always striving to contribute positively to the day-to-day life and comfort of those in my care.

My journey in care began as a Care Assistant, where I quickly learned that meaningful connection is often found in the small, everyday moments, a kind word, a gentle gesture, or simply being present and listening. These early experiences laid the foundation for my deep commitment to person-centred care.


In my current role as a Lifestyle Coordinator, I continue to support residents through thoughtful engagement and compassionate interaction. Whether it's through conversation, companionship, or shared laughter, my goal is always to create a sense of comfort, dignity, and belonging.


To me, this work goes beyond daily support; it's about enriching lives, celebrating individuality, and promoting a strong sense of community. I take pride in contributing to an environment where residents feel seen, valued, and truly at home.


Becoming the Lifestyle Coordinator at Kingfishers Nursing Home has been the highlight of my career so far. It’s a role that allows me to be creative, compassionate, and impactful, all within a supportive and dedicated team environment.

I am proud to serve as the Lifestyle (Activities) Coordinator at Kingfishers Nursing Home, a role I’ve held since March 2025, following valuable experience in the wider care sector. My journey in this field has been driven by a deep passion for enhancing the quality of life for older adults, and I feel incredibly privileged to be part of a team that shares this commitment.


This role calls for a unique blend of communication, empathy, creativity, and genuine care qualities that I bring to each day with enthusiasm and heart. For me, it’s not just about organising activities; it’s about making meaningful connections and helping our residents feel engaged, valued, and joyful in their daily lives.


Whether it’s leading seated chair exercises, facilitating a baking session, or simply sitting down for a chat, I love creating moments that bring smiles, spark memories, and build a sense of community. One of the most rewarding parts of my day is seeing the joy on residents’ faces as they participate in something that brings them pleasure, stimulation, or comfort.

Fiona has over 30 years of experience working within the healthcare sector and is a Registered Nurse, remaining active on the NMC register. Her management career started as a charge nurse and then as a ward manager within the NHS, working in wards specialising in care for older adults enduring mental health conditions and dementia.


For the last 15 years, Fiona has worked in the Care Home Sector, taking on various Management roles, including Registered Manager, Regional Support Manager, Clinical and Quality Manager, Compliance Consultant and Operations Manager.


Remaining very hands-on clinically, she is passionate about supporting our management teams to deliver exceptional person-centred care, ensuring all individuals can maintain their independence and enjoy the excellent quality of life our care homes offer.

Louise is the Operations Manager at Premium Care Group Ltd, bringing over 20 years of experience in health and social care. Her career began as a domiciliary carer while raising her young children, originally seeking flexible work, she quickly discovered a deep passion for making a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Since then, she has never looked back.


Throughout her career, Louise has held a variety of roles across the sector, each building on the last and shaping her strong understanding of what good care truly looks like. Her journey has led her to her current role, where she oversees multiple care homes, supports managers, and ensures the highest standards of quality, compliance, and person-centred care.


Louise is passionate about fostering environments where both residents and staff feel genuinely supported. She leads with integrity, remains hands-on when needed, and is deeply committed to staying connected to the people behind the work. I guide and support each care enquiry with compassion and professionalism, ensuring every family feels heard, informed, and confident in their choices.


In addition to my work with families, I also oversee our marketing and advertising, helping to showcase the heart of our homes and the care we provide. I’m a people person at heart, and I’m proud to be part of a business that shares my core belief: life does not end with a dementia diagnosis. Our homes are places to continue living with dignity, joy, and purpose.

Danielle Barham

Job Title: Group Lifestyle Manager

In July 2025, I was honoured to become the Group Lifestyle Manager for Premium Care Group, where I oversee and develop lifestyle programmes across all our care homes to enhance residents’ wellbeing and quality of life.


Before this, I was Care Manager at Weald Hall, having started my career there as a care assistant. I quickly built strong relationships with residents and the care team. My passion has always been to make a genuine difference, caring for every resident as if they were part of my own family.


At Premium Care Group, we are committed to providing excellent, individualised care that promotes independence and enables residents to live their lives to the fullest. I look forward to continuing to create welcoming, engaging environments where family, friends, and our residents feel at home.

Sonya Virdee

Job Title: Group Clinical Manager

Sonya has been a qualified nurse for over 22 years, with extensive experience in both Acute and community settings across various National Health Care Services (NHS) in Northwest London. She has also worked in the Middle East with the Government on projects including reducing amputation rates and promoting awareness on wound management. In 2022, Sonya transitioned into the Nursing Home industry to utilise her broad knowledge and skills in managing clients with chronic conditions.


Sonya initially qualified as a general nurse in 2023 and went on to attain further qualifications, including Tissue Viability (specialising in managing all types of wounds, including cancerous wounds, pressure ulcers, and leg ulcers), Teaching and Co-mentoring, Leadership and Management. She also holds a master’s degree in Health and Social Person-Centred Care and a Meta Master's in Behaviour Studies.


She was previously the Home Manager at Kingfishers Care Home in Bourne End, where she had the privilege of being part of a diverse, modern, and dynamic management team at Premier Health Care. In her new role as Group Clinical Manager within the Premium Care Group, Sonya will be using her expertise to support the homes in achieving and maintaining high clinical standards.


In her spare time, Sonya enjoys reading and watching documentaries.
