  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 16 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for St George's Witham Nursing Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.812 for St George's Witham Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (157 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 191 Ratings = 4.812

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St George's Witham Nursing Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

My father transferred in Spring 2015 after all involved in his care agreed St George's could support his specialist requirements due to spinal cord injury two years previously. Starting from when I first visited, prior to assessment, we were all treated with kindness and humanity. Dad was nursed with patience, skill, gentleness, respect and attention to detail. St George's facilitated and supported the physiotherapy input and the links with the spinal unit. Any issues or changes to regime were discussed and implemented with openness and professionalism, whether raised by clinicians, family or the team themselves. The home kept me informed about treatments. We never felt unwelcome, or that dad's requirements were excessive. Treated with love, respect and care, my father enjoyed the food, took part in activities, and chose to go on outings arranged by St George's. During his life and death this year at St George's, their kindness and generosity to us all was truly exceptional.

St George's Witham Nursing Home has an impressive CQC record and website, but it is so much more than this!
The whole team at St George's are lovely, friendly, skilled and caring professionals who provide 1st class care to my Dad. He told me that the staff were all excellent and the food delicious. We were all impressed by the wide range of activities on offer - especially the gardening club. Guests are always welcomed there at any time.
Dad was consistently treated with respect and dignity and given options about day to day choices such as what to eat, where to eat and what time to get up and go to bed. He was very comfortable and able to relax without worrying at St George's. This was apparent from his first day there right through to his end of life care.
I can take great comfort from knowing that my beloved dad was expertly looked after by people who, not only know and do their job well but genuinely care about their clients. It sometimes seemed as though Dad was the only person they had to look after.
I really cannot fault the care provided and am so glad I chose St George's

Very friendly staff - although there are times when they are short staffed - evenings and weekends.
Well managed.
Clean and comfortable.
Good choice of meals and regular tea/coffee.
Good activity programme.
Although I can always ask the management team of nursing staff about my father, it would be good if they gave a progress report of any changes/visits by a doctor etc. It could be a two-way process where we can also feedback about Dad's feelings - depression/happy etc.

Claire Pniok, Operations Director at St George's Witham Nursing Home responded to this review on 15 Mar 2017:

We are pleased to receive constructive feedback and are always looking at ways in which we can improve the service we provide. Our staffing levels are determined by using the Rhys Hearn dependency score system and always staff in excess of this. The number of staff on duty at the weekends should always be the same as during the week. As with any service, we are occasionally vulnerable to last-minute staff absenteeism and we make every effort to address this at the time.

Expert medical opinion resulted in the ending of further chemotherapy for our son. He arrived at the nursing home needing loving care in his final days. That is exactly what he received day and night for his remaining seven days. Every member of staff was outstanding in their care and speedy responses to his needs. He commented after three days that he had made the right decision by choosing St Georges's.

Where do I start? Firstly the care my wife receives was first class. Also, I was looked after by one and all. They are simply brilliant people when one is going through what we were going through, a very rough patch.
The staff, all included, were and are still brilliant. The word care at St George's was executed and I am grateful to them. I would highly recommend to anybody. Thank you one and all at St Geroge's care home, Witham, Essex.

My grandfather has been here for 9 months. We were worried he wouldn't settle but the care he has received has been second to none. The staff are lovely, his surroundings are calm and his every need is met - even if he wants porridge at dinner-time. The home is clean and tidy. There are lots of things for residents to do, should they wish.

My sister was here for 13 months and the staff and carers were exceptional kind and caring I could never praise this home enough, she was very happy there and ended her life peaceful and happy, which made me and my husband very happy the way she passed away. I can't praise them enough, excellent.

My mother moved to the home two years ago following repeat hospital admissions. At the time I felt she was so poorly that she was at the end of her life. However with the care and compassion in the home my mother was soon settled and her physical health rapidly improved. Two years on she is physically well and enjoying her life. Thank you to all the staff for all that they do and the way in which they do it.

My Dad was moved here for palliative care from hospital. He had been very agitated while in hospital, his demeanour changed on entering St Georges. The atmosphere was calming and happy. The staff were outstanding in their attitude care and attention, not only to my Dad but to the whole family. Nothing was too much trouble for them. I couldn't have wished for a better place for him. I give them 5 stars and would recommend this place to everyone. Many thanks to you all, keep up the good work.

My son- in-law was in the care of St Georges for the last 6 weeks of his life , all the staff looked after him with compassion and his dignity remained to the end, he could have been anyone of their relative's the way they looked after him.
My daughter and their two little boys were shown so much love and support during this difficult time, we were always welcome day or night and greeted with a hug or a shoulder should we need.
I cannot praise this wonderful home and their dedicated team enough.
Thank you

I moved Mum from anther care home to St Georges in June, because the numbers of carers in her first home was below the number needed to care for the residents, consequently the level of care they were able to give was inadequate. The contrast at St Georges was startling. The carers always work in pairs. They respond quickly to the call bell, and act with care, compassion and understanding. Having experienced two care homes with my Mum, St Georges is definitely the "Gold Standard". The activities are varied, the food is good and tasty, the facilities are excellent. You have everything you need at St Georges including caring staff, who are managed excellently.

The care my husband received here in his final weeks was more than I could of wished for. The staff and management welcomed my husband and all of us, his friends and family, as part of their family. They helped us though bad days as much as him.
In such a short time they were family to us, they are all so special to do what they do for others loved ones everyday and I cannot thank them enough. A few recommended St George's to me, saying they work in the industry and wouldn't hesitate to put a family member there.. I can understand why! xxx

My Mum lived here for 3 years. She had Parkinson's and sadly lost her mobility over the 3 years. My sister and I were so thankful to have found a place like St. Georges - good care and a professional attitude from staff at all levels. While feeling up to it, Mum loved the lunches shared with friends in the dining room, with a glass of wine. The activities programme generated a real community atmosphere and provided lots of choice, so important to keep residents engaged and having a bit of fun. Mum loved telling us all about the activities she had done and the monthly newsletter provided lots of interest for her and us. Photos taken of her at various activities are treasured by my sister and I. End of life care was thoughtful and sensitive and staff at every level were so comforting and supportive of the family in Mum's last days. There was a sense that everyone truly cared about Mum. My sister, living locally, was able to raise any issues directly with staff and managers and matters were attended to satisfactorily. The ability of family to have this dialogue with the care home is very important for the well being and understanding of the resident and helps relatives to be assured that they are doing all they can for their loved one.
