St George's Nursing Home Witham

Mum was there for five years after a stroke. The staff were kind and very understanding with her. They dealt very well with Covid. Mum couldn't do anything herself. She was only given three months in the beginning, but made five years! That tells you how good they are.

My mother spent eight months at St Geroge's. We found the staff to be very friendly and caring. They were also very good at communicating with us.

My Mum had lived with Parkinson's for 25-years before we had to make the extremely difficult decision to have Mum cared for in a nursing home. It was especially hard for my Dad, who had cared for Mum for so long. We visited various nursing homes, but none gave us the welcoming, homely feeling that St George's did. We chose St George's and it was the right decision. Mum moved in in October 2019. Dad visited nearly every day, even joining Mum for lunch in the dining hall and was made to feel as much a part of the St George's family as Mum was. We were all made so welcome by every single member of staff there. They have a varied activity timetable with regular live entertainment too. The carers helped Mum with her hair, makeup and jewellery, which she loved. Mum was treated with such respect, love and kindness by everyone. During the lockdown, the staff helped set up FaceTime calls every day so that Mum could speak to Dad and could see him. Sadly my Mum passed away peacefully in September 2021. Thank you all so much for your care, professionalism and for loving my Mum.

My mum was with you for only two weeks, but the care she received was wonderful. She had been living with bowel cancer for the past 2-years and came to you after a stay in hospital for end of life care. Your staff treated her with the utmost respect and dignity right to the very end. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your support and kindness towards all the family during such a hard time. Thank you so very much.

Our dad passed away on 14/3/21 following a short terminal illness. He had exemplary care, was treated with kindness, dignity and respect. All of the staff, without exception, are to be commended for their professionalism. They are a true credit to the care sector. Thank you at a time like this seems an inadequate word, but our sincerest thanks go to all of the St George's team. My sister and myself were also treated with kindness and respect.

All the staff at St George’s provided the best nursing care and support for my sister and brother-in-law. My sister-in-law was sadly at the end of her life, but the staff treated her with dignity and respect until the very end. We were kept up to date regularly; St George’s is a home from home, and we would recommend it to everybody. A big thank you to everybody at the home.

My father spent a few weeks at St George's at the end of his life. The treatment and care he received during this time was exceptional. I was provided with regular updates on his condition and found all staff at the home professional, caring and sympathetic.

Mum spent the last 18 months of her life at St George’s until she died in late February. From the very first moment she arrived, she was treated with the highest respect, dignity and compassion and I can only say that, without exception, everyone there made a difference to her life. She arrived as this quiet, frightened old lady who trusted nobody outside her immediate family yet when I sat with her the afternoon before she died, she was laughing, happy and chatty, telling me all the news about the staff who were caring for her. She loved to hear all about their families and what was happening in their lives and she loved them like family. I think it might be fair to say they grew to love her too. Mum chose to remain in her bed, never leaving her room but was always included in any activities that were going on and she thrived on the excellent food. The standard of nursing and care she received was excellent and I would have no hesitation in recommending St George’s to anyone.

I cannot recommend St George’s highly enough, my father was in here for the last six weeks of his life and he was treated with gentleness and compassion by all staff at all times. The care they showed him was exemplary and the kindness shown to us as a family was amazing. He was able to pass away with the dignity and peace he deserved and all the staff are just amazing.

My brother and I were considering whether to have our elderly mother cared for at home at the end of her life; with all the necessary nursing and health care dovetailing to meet her needs or to have her cared for under one roof in a nursing home. I have to say the concept of putting mum into a nursing home wasn’t appealing at first, but after meeting the staff at St. George’s nursing home and seeing first hand how amazingly well they cared for mum, I am so very pleased we chose both a nursing home in general and St. George’s in particular. Although mum wasn’t there for long, her peaceful passing was in no small way due to their exemplary care. Also, on a side note, walking around the home, you sense it is a very well run organisation. I would have no hesitation in recommending St. George’s to anyone looking for a nursing home.

My cousin was a resident at St George's for over six years. During that period she cared for and given the utmost respect at all times. During her final few months of life, the care and nursing given were of a very high standard.

In my opinion, the most important qualities for a care home are trust and caring at a personal level. It is absolutely obvious to anyone who visits their friend or relative at St George’s that all of the staff not only care about the residents but make every effort to make both the residents and visitors know that they care. This creates a great environment and in turn breeds the trust that is so important to people who have become so vulnerable and dependent in a difficult stage of their life. St George’s is so well run and the people there all work hard and will do anything they can to help when asked. My family are so pleased about how happy our mother is at St George’s and we can absolutely recommend it to anyone.

My mother was admitted to St George's for palliative care and passed away six days after admission. St George's staff were knowledgeable and helpful with the process prior to admission and during the move from hospital. During admission and throughout her stay my mother was cared for in a professional and caring way at all times. The room she was in was homely and comfortable. We are unable to comment on the standard of food as she was not eating. She was bedridden and unable to participate in activities. We did, however, observe the communal areas and found them to be clean, comfortable and welcoming. Overall the staff were very friendly, welcoming approachable, with nothing appearing too much trouble. The home itself being very homely and relaxing.

My mother has just come home after respite care at St George's. We found the staff extremely helpful and reassuring, from my initial phone contact to the 'guard of honour' as she left. Nothing was too much trouble and the atmosphere in the home was both pleasant and optimistic. Although St George's is some distance away, it would be our first choice, if similar care is needed in the future.

I am very satisfied with the care my mother receives at St George's. Her needs are met by caring and friendly staff at all levels. St George's was recommended to me by another user and my expectations have been fully met.

My mum has lived here for fourteen months. The staff are amazing and have always treated my mum to the highest of standards. The residents are treated with dignity and the staff are always happy which is a good sign of a good employer. The food is very nice and I have often had dinner here with my mum. I would recommend this nursing home to anyone. I know only too well, what a big decision it is when that time comes. Thank you to everyone who has cared for my mum. She has been very happy here.

Over the past 3 years, my Mother was in the care of St Georges, Witham. The care and support given for all of that time was excellent. Apart from the day to day care, great attention is paid to NHS reviews of individual and drug management. Support for relatives is such that you can visit anytime, discuss problems and take holidays without worry in the knowledge that any problems will be quickly brought to your attention. Their assistance and understanding really helped me to cope with this sad and difficult period of life.

My aunt was transferred to St George's Witham from hospital for end of life supportive care. She was shown kindness and competent and compassionate care at all times, from each member of the team. It was an enormous comfort to us all.

The patient's needs were definitely put first and nothing was too much trouble in order to ensure the best respite stay possible.

My father transferred in Spring 2015 after all involved in his care agreed St George's could support his specialist requirements due to spinal cord injury two years previously. Starting from when I first visited, prior to assessment, we were all treated with kindness and humanity. Dad was nursed with patience, skill, gentleness, respect and attention to detail. St George's facilitated and supported the physiotherapy input and the links with the spinal unit. Any issues or changes to regime were discussed and implemented with openness and professionalism, whether raised by clinicians, family or the team themselves. The home kept me informed about treatments. We never felt unwelcome, or that dad's requirements were excessive. Treated with love, respect and care, my father enjoyed the food, took part in activities, and chose to go on outings arranged by St George's. During his life and death this year at St George's, their kindness and generosity to us all was truly exceptional.
