Overall Experience
My partner was moved from a hospice to Abbey House for 'care in dying'. Abbey House provided care with a capital C. Not only do they provide excellent care to the resident, but their care to family is second to none.
Our family found all the staff very professional, helpful, understanding and sympathetic. We were comforted at every stage of a very harrowing experience.

I cannot praise Abbey House highly enough.

My mum was a resident in the rehab unit of Abbey House Nursing Home for several weeks during which time she was looked after very well. All staff - office, carers and nurses - are friendly and attentive and made her feel welcome. Mum had a few health issues that cropped up during her time there and I felt happy that she was being well looked after and treated with dignity. Mum particularly liked the food so a big thank you to the chef too!

Staff at Abbey House are very welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Kitchen staff catered for my allergy to cow's milk where possible. Very pleasant garden to sit in, in nice weather.

From the moment I arrived at the rehab unit, the staff made me welcome. They quickly got to know my name and always spoke to me pleasantly. The home was well looked after by all the cleaning staff. The decor was pleasant. The handyman was very quick to respond to any problems. The food was excellent, I put on weight without trying. The carers worked extremely hard, some of the clients had dementia, all the staff spoke to every client with kindness and consideration. A very physical and demanding job. I admire anyone working in care.

Both Mum and Dad were residents at Abbey House for nearly a year each for end-of-life care. Dad moved into the home on 21st December 2021. At that time Mum was in a home in Portchester but we desperately wanted them to be together, the manager at Abbey House made it her mission to get them together and eventually a month later Mum moved in and on February 17th 2022 they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary together. I, my sister and brother and our families will be eternally grateful to the wonderful staff and management for allowing Mum and Dad to spend their final months together in a safe, comfortable and caring environment. Whilst the building and grounds are lovely it is the staff that are the biggest asset. We were always made to feel so welcome; we visited frequently which was never an issue. We felt like we were part of a bigger family. We had total confidence that they were safe and cared for with the utmost dignity. The staff, each and every one of them are amazing.

My dad went into the home in December 2023 and received care and attention from all members of staff. They were friendly, kind and helpful and not just to my dad but to us as well, the staff treated my dad as a human being and took the time to talk to him, not talk at him or over him, nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was great, always a choice, plenty of activities if you were up for it. If you are looking for a home/staff that goes the extra mile, choose this one, I would certainly recommend it, a very big thank you to all the staff.

This care home is lovely and has wonderful grounds that the residents can enjoy. It is very well-staffed and all can be rewarded for their care and help. They go over and beyond to make your visit an enjoyable experience. Maintaining a very high level of covid protection which is good to see and shows how they care for their residents and staff. Excellent work.

Nothing but positive things to say about my rehabilitation experience. Staff were extremely helpful and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Regularly checking in if you have not been needing assistance. Staff have a positive attitude and encourage service users when exercising. Food and beverages are very nice although portions are small but adequate.

I came here following a three week stay in hospital. I did not feel at all well initially but the staff could not have been more helpful or friendly. Everyone wanted to make my stay as good as possible. The food served here is very good indeed. The room lacked a TV at first but a new one was ordered and installed as soon as possible. Management staff were helpful to family members. I have no issues.

My husband was transferred here from the hospital and when I heard of it I was not in favour as it's about 35 miles from our home. When my daughter and I arrived we were asked to see my husband in the pod, which was a room that was quite cold and quite bleak. Once we were allowed to go into his room that was a great improvement. The staff were very helpful and kept me informed about my husband's progress which I appreciated living so far away. Altogether it was a much easier experience than I had expected. All thanks to the staff.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was warm, tidy and clean and Mum was getting looked after very well. The staff were often coming in to offer cups of tea and today she had a scone with jam and cream! She has enjoyed the company and the food. During a 2 week stay, for rehab after a hospital, she has recovered very well; the visiting physios and occupational therapists have been good too. A manager gave visitors a warm welcome and we were happy they are still very careful with infection control. We felt it was a safe environment.

Abbey House exemplifies everything that an outstanding care home should be. My mother never wanted to be in a care home, but absolutely loves it. She raves about all the staff and how kind they are. Nothing is too much trouble. They have got to know her as a person and involve relatives and make them feel part of the home and work in partnership to provide ultimate personalised care. The food, staff, entertainment and all-round provision is superb. The fact that staff say they love their job says it all. It is a very special place.

Mum moved into Abbey House in 2018 after a serious ankle injury. From that time until her demise in early 2023 I have nothing but admiration for every one of the staff, Mum was treated as part of a very caring family and was given not only excellent medical and personal care but was treated with love and dignity throughout her stay. I was always kept informed of any changes necessary in Mum's care and nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

When we needed to find a care home for our father during the Covid lockdown, we spoke to Abbey House because he had been there for respite care twice before and we thought the location and the staff were good. My dad originally lived in a respite room for just over a week before moving into his own room. He was always adamant that he never wanted to go into a care home and it took a while for him to settle in. He has been there for two years now and has settled in very well. He has made some friends there, the staff are lovely and we feel our dad is well looked after. It is now his home. He even joins in with the entertainment when he can. Although we never had the opportunity to look at other care homes, we are very pleased with Abbey House and feel quite lucky that they were able to accept him during a difficult time. It is close to where my father lived, convenient for visits, not too big and in a beautiful setting. I do not think we could have done any better.

My auntie went to Abbey House initially for rehab and then became a permanent resident. The care and kindness she received were excellent. The staff always did their best and the home was spotless. During the summer months, the garden was an added bonus to be able to sit out for visits. Thank you to you all.
