Review from Maureen S (Daughter of Resident) published on 8 November 2016 Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
A benchmark that all nursing homes should aspire to.
A home that truly practices its values by consistently delivering the highest level of care, compassion and empathy by encompassing every aspect of the persons well being.
Great home cooked food, fantastic life enriching activities for the residents
practised by every single team member there. The organised activities are excellent, plentiful and varied and the coordinator can never do enough to ensure the resident's social needs and expectations are exceeded. Incredible personal care by all the angels who work there. There is always so much love and laughter in the home.
It's a home that is led by a most wonderful home manager whose support, time and dedication not only to my mother but to our whole family.
I work within the social health and care sector and am very grateful my mother is fortunate to be in what I consider a home that truly has got it right!
A massive and heartfelt thank you to each and everyone of you.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.915)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.915) out of 10 for Gorselands is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.915 for Gorselands is calculated as follows: ( (332 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 363 Ratings = 4.915
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Gorselands is based on 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 31 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

My wife and I took over the running of Gorselands Nursing Home more than 6 years ago. Gorselands has been in our family for more than 20 years, with most of those years having my parents at the helm.

Sadly, we lost my beloved mother a few years ago following a long-term illness. My wife and I took over the running of Gorselands as it is a very special and idyllic home where my mother wished to live out her last days.

We by no means, attempt to keep up with the brand-new clinical-like homes. However, what we do is create a home-from-home experience. We try to maintain the old ways that our parents and grandparents loved to cherish. We offer home-cooked meals, love, and care, and our desire is to ensure a lifelong home for our residents. In a very minimal number of cases, we need to refer some of our residents to specialised homes if we feel their safety or the safety of others could be compromised. However, it is rare.

We would love for you to experience a day with the Gorselands family and invite you to pop along and meet the team. We can always discuss a solution that will fit your needs over a warm cup of tea.

Have you ever wondered how Gorselands keeps running like a well-oiled machine?

Our Home Manager, Ciprian, has a big part to play in that.

He first came to the UK in 2014 as a healthcare assistant and by 2015 he'd become a registered nurse. Three years later, he joined Gorselands Nursing Home and has been here ever since.

Ciprian loves the stunning countryside around our home and enjoys supporting the team and our residents in his current role as Deputy Manager.

He has worked in the care sector for nine years now - so if you ever have any questions about care for an elderly relative, he's the man to ask!

Job Title: Clinical Lead Joined: 2025

Hello, my name is Kay, and I am proud to be part of the dedicated and compassionate team here at Gorselands Nursing Home, where I serve as the Clinical Lead Nurse and a Mental Health First Aider.

I bring with me over 45 years of experience in social care, having had the privilege of working in a wide variety of roles throughout my career. I began my journey in care as a carer, eventually qualifying as a Registered Nurse in 1992. Since then, I have held multiple leadership positions, including Care Home Manager and Operations Manager, allowing me to support both residents and care teams across several settings.

One of my most memorable and proudest achievements was commissioning a care home from the ground up - a project that allowed me to shape a safe, supportive, and resident-centred environment from day one. My career has always been driven by a deep passion for caring for older people, as well as for supporting the dedicated staff who work tirelessly to make a difference every single day.

At Gorselands, I work closely with our Home Manager, nursing team, and care staff to maintain the highest standards of clinical care and resident well-being. I am also committed to promoting mental health awareness and support within the team in my role as a Mental Health First Aider. This is something I feel very strongly about - ensuring that both our residents and staff feel heard, supported, and understood.

Gorselands is more than just a care home - it is a warm, welcoming, and homely place where each resident is valued as an individual. There is a genuine sense of community here, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of it.

If you are visiting Gorselands or thinking about care options for your loved one, please don’t hesitate to stop by and say hello. I’d love to meet you, answer any questions you may have, and share more about how we work together to provide exceptional care here at Gorselands.
