My mother has been in New Forest Nursing home for nearly 3 years. During Covid, the home relied more and more on agency staff which in my mother's case was not always satisfactory as she is bedbound and now has to have pure food. Occasionally the staff were not as supportive and understanding as they
could be. During the Covid lockdown, I think the home managed very well under the circumstances. I now visit my mother twice a week - her pure meals are now good and appropriate for her needs. The staff are always very friendly and welcoming. Her room is clean - but the walls have spillage stains that need to be cleaned up. She has a very small room - but prefers this room as it is one of the few rooms that have mobile reception. It is such a shame that the nursing home does not have wifi and mobile reception for the residents. My mother is not able to engage in the activities as she is reluctant to leave her room.

Thank you for your review.
I appreciate your positive comments regarding our colleagues and agree with you. They are a warm welcoming bunch in the New Forest. I will have our maintenance man check out the stains you've mentioned, thanks for bringing that to my attention. And I will investigate the wifi situation and revert with the findings. Many thanks for your review.

As I was not able to visit my father because of Covid and was very surprised at his poor physical state to the point I did not recognise him when I saw him again in June as he lost over 20 kilos since I last saw him. However, after talking to the staff, I realised most of the weight loss happened before
he was admitted to the care home. After a couple of days of visiting, I realised that there we some basic items missing for the betterment of care - for example, an extra long bed and a long chair for his height.

Although I think that this was more a result of the limited supply of the NHS and difficulty of getting items due to the supply chain issue of covid, I feel that the staff and especially the manager went out of her way to rectify these and other smaller issues. She always showed empathy and understanding towards my father. I really do feel she made a heartfelt effort to do the best for my father to have as much dignity and comfort while he remained with us.

Thank you for your review. The individual circumstance of your Father's situation highlights how each Resident's and family's need is unique and needs the care and attention of those who go the extra mile. We are so lucky to have managers and staff who do so on a regular basis. They really do everything possible to make residents feel at home, relaxed and comfortable. Thank you for your recognition of their compassion and efforts, it is greatly appreciated.

Parents are looked after very well by all the staff who are very patient and caring. Happy team, all very friendly. The medical team are excellent, arranging the correct medication and any problems my parents have. Very well fed, meal times and snacks. Their room arrangement is brilliant.

Today celebrated my great-grandmother's birthday. She turned 103. The staff all made such a fuss of her, to the extent that the manager came into the home on her day off. Great staff and a wonderful cake baked by the catering team. Very grateful that the staff care so much.
Reply from Helen Jones, CEO at New Forest Nursing HomeHello, thank you for your review. Everyone in New Forest was excited to celebrate with your great-grandmother and family. The staff in New Forest do genuinely care about the Residents and it's that warmth that makes it such a special place. My very best wishes to you and your family and thanks again for your review.

My Mother is so very well looked after by a wonderful team of nurses and carers with whom she has good relationships. I find the management team to be exemplary. I would also like to thank the Catering and Housekeeping teams. The home has a warm and caring atmosphere, but most importantly my Mother
is happy. To witness the joy on her face at an invitation to go out on a trip on the mini-bus is so heart-warming so a big thank you to the Driver and Activities Co-ordinator.
Reply from Helen Jones, CEO at New Forest Nursing HomeHello, thank you very much for your kind words and recognition of the loving support the entire New Forest team show our Residents. To see a Resident enjoy their day is our best reward. Your review will be shared with the team who will undoubtedly be delighted to receive it. Many thanks and my best wishes to your family.

My father is very well looked after here, and, more importantly, he is happy and comfortable. He has a good rapport with all staff. All the staff are very caring and show patience and compassion to all patients. All staff from, management to cleaners, are very cheerful and go a long way to give the
home it's warm atmosphere. A lot of thought is given to outings and activities. I am very happy to know that my father is safe and cared for.
Reply from Helen Jones, CEO at New Forest Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to provide us with a review. I am so glad your Dad is happy with us. I know the staff in New Forest are genuinely caring people, who are happy and upbeat, and of course, this 'rubs off' on the residents. We are all very grateful for your wonderful ratings and review; it means a great deal to us that the residents' families are happy also. My very best wishes to your family, cheers.

The love and care that has been given to my wife has made us feel like we are part of a truly great family. New Forest Nursing Home; great home, great care by great people.
Reply from Helen Jones, CEO at New Forest Nursing HomeThank you for your beautiful words, they mean the world to the team, who are in fact like family. However, that 'family' feel can only be achieved with your kind and supportive participation, and that of other families, all part of the New Forest family. Thank you, my very best wishes.

Because of covid restrictions, I have not been able to observe in person some of the facilities as my wife has only been here since November 2020. I have always found the staff friendly and helpful.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.773)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.773) out of 10 for New Forest Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.773 for New Forest Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (235 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 273 Ratings = 4.773
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for New Forest Nursing Home is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
